Chapter 435 - 432 Red Feather_1

Chapter 435: Chapter 432 Red Feather_1

The scent of blood lingered in the air. After all the soldiers had fallen, the white figure stopped. Somehow, a third arm had grown out of her back. This arm was thick and long, comparable to twice her height!

Compared to her two delicately smooth, alabaster arms, the secondary arm sprouting from her back was covered in dark blue scales. Its three-fingered hand clenched and flexed, swaying gently, causing clumps of sticky flesh and blood to fall from it.

After killing all the soldiers present, the arm on her back retracted. The flesh on it squirmed as it was drawn back into her body, transforming back into a smooth back. It wouldn’t have been evident if it weren’t for the hole that appeared on her little dress. The whole scene could have easily been dismissed as a dream.

She silently walked over to a wall to lean against it. She picked up the rag doll from the ground, lowered her head, and stared at the pool of blood collecting around her feet.

Finally, two figures appeared at the staircase entrance. The young man holding a blade said, "Liang Hanyang, let’s go."

The little girl lifted her head slightly, murmuring, "If you ever try to use the thing inside my body again, I’ll kill you."

As she spoke, her gaze was fixed on the ground, as if speaking to it. But upon hearing this, Yan Jie’s body trembled slightly.

He didn’t know why he had been resurrected. His body had been totally crushed and as his consciousness slipped into darkness, he felt like the world contracted, getting smaller and smaller, until the lost sensations of dying pain returned bit by bit, from the pain of a needle prick to the recent heart-wrenching agony...

When he finally woke up, he saw the little girl standing amid the zombies. Her back had a peculiar muscular arm covered in scales hanging down and the surrounding zombies seemed to ignore her, even though they would roar in her direction, they didn’t attack her.

Even stranger, upon awakening, he felt different, no longer the same as his old self. As for what exactly had changed, he was unsure.

The seemingly harmless little girl before him had a deeply hidden ruthless heart!

He had personally watched the little girl effortlessly slaughter a Level 4 zombie and extract the Evolution Crystal from its brain. After his resurrection and inexplicable increase in strength to the height of a Level 3 New Human, he still felt like an ant in front of her. She could easily crush him with a flick of her finger.

Yan Jie didn’t speak. Faced with such a powerful person, fear would typically be the norm. But, he wasn’t afraid of the possibility of her killing him.

Why was that the case?

His heart felt an emptiness, as if he’d lost something fundamental.

Or perhaps, from knowing her for some time, he understood that the little girl had two personalities that could switch at any moment. He wasn’t sure which personality was controlling her body at the moment.

Therefore, he remained silent, just helping Chen Chaoyang to walk out.

Chen Chaoyang’s face was filled with excitement. He glanced at Liang Hanyang and asked, "Who is she?"

"Shut up."

Yan Jie responded coldly, his voice devoid of any emotion. Startled, Chen Chaoyang did not speak, his eyes filled with anticipation.

He was finally going to get out. He had waited for ten days just for this!

Desire tormented him till he was on the brink of death!

Just to confirm whether his family members were safe!

Liang Hanyang picked up her unsightly rag doll, walked into their midst and asked, "Where do you plan to go next?"

"I don’t know," Yan Jie replied with a look of confusion in his eyes.

"Is Li Xiaoyan okay?" Asked Chen Chaoyang.

Li Xiaoyan and Chen Chaoyang had been imprisoned together. Six days ago, someone had chopped off one of his arms. The rotting arm hanging in the underground prison previously had belonged to him. Three days ago, someone had taken him away, saying he was to be executed.

People without value, they are the first to die. Li Xiaoyan was taken away because he had lesser value than Chen Chaoyang.

"He’s okay, recuperating at the moment."

"Oh."

There was no ripple in Chen Chaoyang’s heart. Compared to Li Xiaoyan’s death, his mother’s predicament was what truly concerned him.

The three of them entered the main road and saw the prison gates from afar. However, the gates were guarded by fully-armed soldiers.

Yan Jie looked at Liang Hanyang, who returned his gaze directly.

"Don’t look at me. You guys deal with it yourself."

Yan Jie didn’t know what to say. He knew that the little girl wouldn’t help him this time. At the same time, he was pondering whether his Level 3 New Human strength could quickly neutralise the soldiers without causing a big commotion.

"Change of guards!"

"Take your turn."

One pair of soldiers took over from the other, swapping the duty tags they wore.

There were many red birds in the sky. They flew in flocks and also individually; their speed was fast. Many people had noticed that these birds weren’t zombies and were edible. They’d tried to hunt these birds, but so far, no one had managed to catch one.

Over time, people gave up, regretfully accepting these birds as being out of reach and ruling them out as a food source.

The largest of the red birds was about the size of a human head, and most were slightly larger than a palm, resembling sparrows. There were many of them, perched on the trees inside the Qinshan Base, watching the survivors passing below.

They chirped and twittered. Their calls, which should have been noisy due to their numbers, were surprisingly sweet to the ears, akin to an angel softly singing in one’s ear. They provided some entertainment in the post-apocalyptic world. When idle, people would stand under the trees they occupied, listening quietly to their calls.

Only then, amidst the apocalypse, could their restless hearts find a moment of peace.

They seemed to shed a lot of feathers. Every flying bird would leave several fiery red feathers behind. When a flock flew by, their fallen feathers resembled red blood, looking stunning and captivating.

The spectacle of the fallen feathers was a visual feast, and likewise, they also fed quite a few people. The feathers were edible, like a special gift from heaven for the survivors of the Qinshan Base.

"There seem to be more and more birds, huh?"

A soldier put on the handed-over tag and casually started a conversation with his counterpart.

"Yep, they’re getting prettier too."

"I hope they’ll always be around."

"Indeed."

All the guards had completed the changing of the guard. It was usually the time when spirits lagged the most, dreading the five-hour watch ahead. Picturing this time alone would drain anyone’s energy. At that moment, a figure suddenly charged out of the prison entrance. The blade in his hand swished through the air, severing several guards’ lives in an instant.

"What the... Attack!"
