Chapter 325: Chapter 324: The Second Invasion 2_1

Soon after, the convoy finally stopped below the mound of sand. When the people inside emerged, the survivors up top were stunned.

"This... this isn’t the military? Who are these people?"

The survivors panicked instantly, as though their hopeful hearts shattered into pieces.

Song Wuli felt even more frantic. It wasn’t the military after all?

If it were the military, at least his life would be spared, but if other Survivor Forces attacked, he would be the first one to be killed!

Instantly, Song Wuli’s face turned pale, his body trembling involuntarily. Even as a formidable Level 2 New Human, he became a coward in the face of the cannon.

Although New Humans are not immortal, a single cannon would pulverize him!

Each person emerging from the convoy held weapons, bullets hanging everywhere. These were neither soldiers nor typical survivors.

They all wore green bulletproof vests on the outside, but the clothes underneath were a variety of colors, some even wore it bare-bodied.

Although the green bulletproof vest did give a sense of authority, on these people, they just looked like bandits!

The men descending from the convoy looked around on the mound of sand. They didn’t seem to have a leader in sight, just whispering amongst themselves.

Some, noticing their numerical advantage, shouted to the survivors above: "We’ve come for revenge! Who killed our brothers a few days ago? Step out!"

With that, the man fired several shots into the sky. Song Wuli frowned, immediately comprehending the situation. Fear led to anger boiling within him.

He knew they had come for revenge—an elder following a youngster.

That day, his henchman had come running to him saying that his companion had been captured by other survivors. He had then put their settlement on high alert. As soon as Xu Changchi and his men came over, without uttering a word, they started shooting. Now, Song Wuli felt he had been too impulsive; the group from earlier might not have intended harm at all.

But now, it was too late!

Gazing at the hundreds of heavily armed survivors pouring out from the convoy, Song Wuli regretted his actions. He was well aware that a powerful Survivor Force resided in Yudong South, but being rather suspicious and cautious, given the dangers plaguing the early days of the Apocalypse, Song Wuli was cautious.

While the group from a few days ago also possessed guns, they were weaker in comparison to his men, hence, they were driven away after a round of attacks.

Back then, Song Wuli had become complacent, overlooking the Survivor Forces in Yudong South. But now, seeing the large number of people who had come, equalling the total population of his settlement, each equipped with excellent weapons and backed by a tank, he was alarmed!

How did they amass an army like this? Song Wuli suspected they must’ve robbed an entire military just for this much equipment!

Nonchalantly, they had sent so many people to avenge a few dozen men he had killed a few days ago. This suggested that their main settlement might outnumber his own by at least twice!

You see, the post-apocalyptic world isn’t like a world in chaos. The latter is man-made. During chaotic times, some people, upon encountering old, weak, sick, and disabled individuals, might show mercy and let them live.

But the Apocalypse was different, blighted by zombies. Zombies didn’t care about age or physical condition. As long as you were living, you only existed to be their food!

Hence, in the early Apocalypse, the old, weak, sick, disabled were eliminated from the survival game, leaving only the cunning and shrewd ones. Hence, in any Survivor Force, at least 90% of the population would have combat capabilities!

Considering this, Song Wuli’s fear intensified. Glancing at his surroundings, he knew he had to take action now or else his life would end today.

"Call everyone! We hold our ground! They aren’t military. If they make it in, we’re all going to die!"

Song Wuli shouted to the survivors below. Seeing their uncertain expressions, he grabbed a gun from a henchman beside him, aimed at Bai Huipeng and others below, and fired several shots.

"F*ck!"

Bai Huipeng moved swiftly, hiding behind a tank. However, his comrades weren’t so lucky: they were hit by the bullets. One died on the spot, while others, although their injuries were non-fatal, fell to the ground, wailing in pain.

With pure rage in his heart, Bai Huipeng yelled at Wu Zhanping beside him: "Fire! Take down that son of a bitch!"

Suddenly, all those below started to fire manically, making sand fly in every direction.

"Aim the cannon over there, blow them to smithereens!"

The incessant gunfire rang through everyone’s ears. Several survivors standing on the platform above the mound were hit and fell backward. Hearing Bai Huipeng’s furious yell, everyone was taken aback, one after another jumping down.

"Is it ready yet?"

"Hold your horses, let me check!"

"Brother Peng said to fire the cannon!"

"Wait, let me see."

Inside a tank, two people were quarrelling. One was fiddling with something at the operation console, while the other was fumbling near the output port.

"First this... then press this... what’s this? Never mind."

Appearing impatient, the man at the output port, not knowing what else to do, casually unlatched the cover above the output port. He then shoves a shell as thick as an arm inside and pulling a safety pin, told the other man, "You try, let’s see if it works."

"Are you sure?" the other man asked tentatively.

"Jeez, these tanks have safety measures installed. Even if we mess up, they won’t explode in the cannon."

"Okay, then."

Reassured by the man at the output port, the other man no longer hesitated. The crosshair on the screen was aimed at the mound of sand. Holding the handle firmly with his thumbs pressing hard on the red button at the tip.

Boom!

The colossal tank shook, and a bright glow came from the thick cannon. A shell shot out and smashed into the mound of sand.

Boom!

With a loud bang, accompanied by a blast of fire, the mound of sand exploded. Yellow sand flew everywhere, including fragments of concrete and chunks of an unknown substance. A jet of black, viscous fluid gushed out!

Nobody knew what the fragments were until closer inspection revealed they were pieces of highly decayed corpses.

The giant mound of sand had a large hole blasted into it by the shell. The black fluid flowed everywhere. In a short while, an unforgettable putrid smell permeated the air.
