Chapter 267: Chapter 265: Sinful Angel 13_1
As she finished speaking, the test subject turned around and charged through the raining bullets.
"Is this the case? I’m so different... am I kind?" For some reason, Ning Yu’er mocked herself. She realized just how ludicrous her own behavior was. Why should she be so concerned about others?
When the test subject left, she knew he’d gone to kill all those soldiers. Yet she didn’t feel any pity for them. Instead, she felt strangely calm.
Perhaps she’s starting to understand her situation. Or maybe not. Near the perimeter wall designed to repel zombies, all the survivors had been dispersed to avoid unnecessary casualties. The government hasn’t paid much attention to these survivors anyway since last month.
She was now alone, and she took this opportunity to contemplate her past mistakes. With her current injuries, there was no chance of her escaping on her own.
The gunshot wound at her waist was growing more painful, although she had used a lighter to sear it shut.
Boom Boom Boom!
...
Gunshots continued to reverberate in her ears. It was likely the test subject was battling with a group of soldiers. But despite the passage of time, Ning Yu’er hadn’t heard a single scream from the soldiers.
Instead, after the "whooshing" sound of the quantum weapon firing, the test subject appeared in front of her, beaten and worn out, a large hole blasted in his chest. Seeing this, Ning Yu’er frowned with concern.
"Are you okay?"
"Can’t die! Ha ha."
Grunting roughly, the test subject lifted her into his arms and quickly departed. He had overestimated his abilities. Against human technology, even the Level 4 New Humans seemed to falter.
"You couldn’t take them on?" Ning Yu’er mocked him.
Spitting out a mouthful of blood, the test subject was visibly discomforted by her tone. This wasn’t the same Ning Yu’er he knew.
The two left this area, heading in another direction.
What they didn’t see was that after the test subject escaped, the soldiers on the zombie defense wall didn’t give chase but instead stood still. The lead officer squinted, whispering something to himself that no one could hear clearly.
"Target One has left."
At his command, the soldiers returned to their previous position. Looking down from above, one would see a sizable group of government soldiers pulling back from the front line, with those from Chenhua Technology slowly withdrawing, advancing towards the east.
Due to his robust physique, the test subject charged headlong towards the southern gate.
When the test subject and Ning Yu’er saw the conditions at the South Gate, they sensed that something was wrong. The gate was shut tight, completely against common practice, and a sizable group of an uncountable number of soldiers had gathered in front of it, lining up in a neat square. On catching sight of the two, they readied themselves.
"Prepare!"
Behind them, a battle-hardened officer shouted, a sense of ruthlessness in his eyes as he stared at the two meter tall, muscle-bound figure. He was filled with a desire to kill!
No one wanted these dangerous test subjects to get out!
The soldiers guarding here appeared to have expected them, and seeing this scenario, the already emotional test subject roared with anger, fearlessly charging forward.
Throughout their escape, Ning Yu’er, perched on his shoulder, kept growing weaker. She had been shot in the waist, and the untreated wound had begun to fester. Constant bumping and jostling caused the wound to bleed without pause, staining half her clothes with her blood.
Seeing that the test subject was determined to bring her along at all costs, she felt a warmth in her heart. However, it seemed like they wouldn’t be able to escape.
She now realized just how laughable her action was, as was the current situation of the test subject. Despite his superhuman strength, how could human weapons be simple run-of-the-mill technology?
Especially the powerful quantum beam weapon. He might only need a solitary hit to his head, and the "good-hearted" test subject would immediately fall.
"It’s alright, you can stop now. Put me down. They want to kill me, not you," Ning Yu’er murmured softly.
The test subject just sneered in response, "Of course, I know they want to kill you. But they won’t spare me either. I took you for you, but also for myself."
"Is that so...," Ning Yu’er replied weakly. She felt her eyelids growing heavy, and desperately wanted to close her eyes and sleep. But she dared not, fearing she might never wake again.
Today’s events had already shaken her worldview, and now, it was on the verge of collapsing.
"We will escape. Don’t be afraid!" the test subject barked in a reassuring manner, his face savage as he stared towards the front, the contours of his figure creating a trail of afterimages on the ground.
"Thank you..."
As she saw the ground swiftly rushing past beneath them, a faint smile appeared on Ning Yu’er’s face. This test subject reminded her of the zombie gentleman she had met in Lin City. She wondered what he was doing now...
"Fire!"
Seeing that the test subject and Ning Yu’er had entered the firing range, the officer gave the command. The soldiers’ guns spewed tongues of fire, and bullets filled the sky.
Roar!
A beast-like sound roared out as the test subject’s large muscles bulged, shimmering with a metallic sheen. At this moment, Ning Yu’er closed her eyes and quietly awaited her death.
She didn’t believe that she and the test subject could escape.
Bullets swept past in an instant, striking the test subject’s skin. But instead of piercing it, they merely left depressions on the surface.
"Kill!" With a shout, the test subject used a ’Z’ shaped path to dodge most of the bullets and charged at the soldiers!
"Ready the quantum weapon. Fire!"
Following another command, the eerie muzzle of the weapon mounted on the military vehicle began to emit a blue light. Simultaneously, the test subject’s heart skipped a beat. He had already tasted the might of this weapon - the hole in his chest was a testament to its power, and he dared not take it head-on!
With bullets pounding upon his skin, even the sturdy test subject winced in pain. Holding Ning Yu’er tightly behind him, he charged forward like a madman, occasionally darting into nearby buildings only to burst back out again!
The soldiers’ barrels swiveled left and right. Human weapons were efficient against large number of enemies, but against a single combat unit, they could easily be led by the nose.
Each soldier gripped their rifles tightly, their barrels aiming incessantly at the figure darting around. No one dared to let him approach, for they knew the consequences would be unimaginable.
Whoosh!
A vertical blue light struck the ground next to the test subject. The impact sent him flying!
