Chapter 237: Chapter 235: The Falling Satellite_1
As the last word was written, the memory ended, and Tang Ye suppressed the flutters in his heart, his face contorting a few times.
These two fragments of memory were short, yet they allowed Tang Ye to deeply understand Li Henian’s feelings at the time. He seemed to have an inseparable affection for his own sister. Tang Ye had not seen all the past between Li Henian and Li Qingtian and took in these two memories with his own sentiments.
He felt a deep melancholy, just like when you finish a book you really enjoyed, and as you close the last page, all the events within it linger, causing a profound sense of melancholy.
But he didn’t want to read it for a second time.
Tang Ye looked into the distance. In this city, he had shed too many tears. On countless lonely nights, he had grown accustomed to much hardship. Originally, the city would have been lit up by neon lights, dazzling and filled with dazzling wealth that made him feel inferior!
Now, all around were sounds of the dead, weeds grown everywhere, visible skeletal remains, and dried up black bloodstains on the ground, with strange unknown plants growing on top.
The surroundings were dark, but not so much so that one couldn’t see their outstretched hand. The former cityscape filled with thousands of lights was no more. The stars in the sky were scattered about, full of a dreamy atmosphere, with the crescent moon hanging in the sky, its weak luminescence illuminating the decayed earth below.
He walked into a shop and picked up two bags of instant noodles covered in dust, then walked out. Just as he stepped out, Tang Ye saw a fireball suddenly appearing in the sky, smashing down on the ground at a tremendous speed.
Tang Ye didn’t know what it was—perhaps a meteor...
"What is that?"
"Just a man-made satellite. Without maintenance, it naturally falls."
"Oh."
Su Sigui was standing on the roof, replying to the teenager beside her. As the fireball crossed the sky and finally smashed onto the ground, she turned around and walked through the door behind her.
The young man kept pace with her, following a few steps behind. After some distance, Su Sigui turned to ask him.
"Have those people all been caught?"
"Yep, they were captured. They’re being held in the hall."
"Good. I heard that Yan Xing has already prepared the things I needed. You go first and ask him to come to the hall to find me."
"Yes."
With his head lowered, the young man answered before parting ways with Su Sigui at a stairwell.
She continued walking ahead in silence. As she moved forward, more survivors armed with guns gradually appeared. In their eyes was a glint of killing intent, clearly polished by the apocalyptic world into a chilling aura!
They stood straight and gripped their guns professionally. When they saw Su Sigui, each person stiffened and saluted, respectfully greeting her: "Boss!"
Su Sigui just nodded, staying silent. She left under the reverence-filled gazes of many, eventually reaching the hall’s door and pushed it open.
The inside was spacious, enough for hundreds or even thousands of people. The hall was almost empty except for boxes stacked around the walls. In the center, a large group of people huddled together, easily numbering over a hundred!
A dozen people armed with guns stood around them, their faces harsh as they watched over the huddled group.
A few corpses were scattered nearby, shot clean through the head, their blood tainting the ground!
The survivors forced to kneel had sallow complexions, bodies thin and worn. They had suffered much in the post-apocalyptic world.
And now, they were rounded up by a group of devils. What would their fate be?
All of this was their own leader’s fault. Why did he have to provoke these people? Now, they might all die today.
Yet, that’s not how it ended.
Originally a group of survivors, these hundred or so people ran into trouble a few days ago. Their scavenging party had killed a man carrying a large amount of food, and subsequently stirred up serious trouble!
Just today, their settlement was surrounded by dozens of people. These invaders were all armed and experienced fighters, resembling grizzled veterans.
Though they too had guns, they only had a few, not even enough for one per person. Their bullets were pitifully few too. Facing this onslaught, they were unable to put up any defense and were captured!
And their leader had been mutilated by this cruel leader, his four limbs cut off. He was hung by wires on a nearby building, left to suffer in the elements!
It’s said that the boss here is a woman, not even twenty years old...
This aroused some curiosity in them.
Creak ~
The hall door was pushed open, and the armed survivors nearby quickly gathered, staring at the approaching Su Sigui with trembling fear.
They had been following Su Sigui for a while and were deeply aware of her methods. Just thinking about how she tortured people, every survivor here couldn’t help but shudder.
This woman was a devil incarnate. People were afraid to get too close to her. Although she had a beautiful face, who knew just how cruel her heart was!
Plus, her maturity which did not match her age. She seemed to know everything, like a prophet!
Although cruel, she was very savvy and understood the human heart well, which ensured the survivors here looked up to her and dared not betray her.
And all this was founded on her formidable strength! This power, however, was hidden in her seemingly soft and delicate body.
If people knew better, it would be okay. However, if they didn’t understand and managed to provoke this woman, they would be done for. She never made exceptions for anyone!
The very survivors who had fear-inducing faces a moment ago suddenly became meek, standing in a line, standing straight and staring straight ahead, listening to Su Sigui’s approaching footsteps.
Su Sigui looked at her subordinates and turned towards the huddled group in the center. Seeing their faces filled with fear and unease, Su Sigui’s initially cold face suddenly broke into a smile. Her smile was like a spring breeze brushing past everyone’s face, relaxing them quite a bit.
While they may have relaxed, the subordinates by the side had their hearts thumping. Every time their boss smiled, they knew that someone was about to die!
"Do you all know why you’re here today?"
None of the crouched survivors answered, but the fear initially present in their faces was gone. Apparently, her smile had eased their fears, and they began to think that perhaps their new leader wasn’t so bad.
They might even be able to keep their lives.
As for running? Only a fool would run! What could they run to?
Although the boss here appeared to be an innocent-looking girl — of course, this was their perception. But to be able to single-handedly establish a survivors’ camp with over 3000 members, she probably wasn’t as she appeared.
No one who had survived this far into the apocalypse was a fool!
