I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World -
Chapter 235 - 233 Strange Memory_1
Chapter 235: Chapter 233 Strange Memory_1
The endless cries of zombies added a touch of eeriness to the city enveloped in darkness.
Zombies would usually not wail unprovoked in the daytime. But at night, they perked up. Zombies seem to be creatures of darkness. The sunshine during the day doesn’t pose much threat to them, but it weakens them, leaving them with no energy to cry out.
However, this only applies when they’re under sunlight. If they spot a living creature, they’ll show it what it’s like to have boundless energy!
At night, the zombies’ activity levels surge, making each of them seem like they’re high on stimulants. The same goes for Tang Ye. At night, his energy levels typically skyrocket. Unless he is forced to sleep, he can drive people crazy!
In the city center, where the cries of zombies are constant, a giant body is being dragged through the darkness by a smaller figure.
Thud!
Tang Ye tossed the body of the Level 3 zombie against a nearby wall. The impact shook the wall, leaving a cloud of dust.
He looked up and noticed flickering lights on top of a high-rise building. A curious smile spread across his face.
It wasn’t the first or second time Tang Ye had come to the city center. As a hotspot for zombies, it was virtually impossible for anyone to survive here! A few steps in any direction and he would encounter several Level 1 zombies, Level 2 zombies weren’t uncommon either!
Although Level 3 zombies weren’t prevalent, he had already encountered five of them this month, demonstrating the zombies were evolving rapidly!
Every time he visited the city center and saw how the contents of each shop or supermarket hadn’t been entirely looted and dust had settled on the goods in the shelves, it was clear that no survivors had been around.
The situations were entirely different on the outskirts of Lin City. Every supermarket, every convenience store Tang Ye came across had been completely plundered, not even a cockroach or rat could be seen on the floors.
Of course, that didn’t include the cockroaches that had turned into zombies.
However, today, Tang Ye ran into a group of survivors in the city center. It caught him by surprise.
Despite the surprise, Tang Ye had no intention of drawing their attention.
Holding a Level 3 Evolution Crystal in his hand, Tang Ye picked out a crystal from his bag, the one he had extracted from Li Henian’s brain. Hefting it in his hand, a satisfied smile spread across his face.
It was time to replenish some energy.
Although the intention was to replenish energy, a look of bitterness flashed across his face. Nobody knew the torment he was experiencing.
He had been surviving solely on Evolution Crystals; initially, it hadn’t been too bad. But as time went on, he began to crave the taste of food he used to enjoy when he was still human - even the taste of instant noodles would be a luxury now!
Another point of frustration was that despite consuming so many Evolution Crystals, he still hadn’t triggered his next evolution. He wasn’t sure when this would change and thought of exploring Zhiyang Lake.
However, the time wasn’t right. Numerous bases had set their sights on that area, and there weren’t any suitable hiding spots around Zhiyang Lake.
Being a Level 4 zombie, Tang Ye was aware of his strength. Although he didn’t fear those factions, he didn’t want to attract global attention unless absolutely necessary.
No matter how powerful a Level 4 zombie was, could it withstand a nuclear bomb? Could it withstand a missile from Huaxia Dongxing No.1?
If a single launch occurred, Tang Ye might be reduced to ashes.
Since a Level 4 zombie wasn’t strong enough, then how about attaining Level 5, or Level 6?
But then again, what would a Level 9 zombie be like? How strong would he have to become?
Would he possess the power to annihilate the world?
All these unknowns filled Tang Ye with an insatiable desire to evolve!
After some daydreaming, Tang Ye glanced at the light coming from the skyscraper, then sat down somewhere. The surrounding zombies were afraid of provoking him and hurriedly moved away from him, screeching.
Opening his mouth, Tang Ye swallowed two Level 3 Evolution Crystals. After a while, waves of warmth flowed through his body. However, his face fell. It seemed he had not evolved.
But he didn’t fall into despair. Evolution was a gradual process, something Tang Ye was not going to rush. If all else failed, he decided he might rob a base.
Looking up at the empty sky, there weren’t any flying moth zombies, the kind found at survivor gathering spots. Instead, there was only a blanket of stars.
It seemed that even zombies had their own specific territories. While they weren’t in one place, they could most certainly be found in another. Just like the strange zombies he had encountered before when he met Li Qingtian and her brother, those zombies that he had failed to establish a psychic connection with.
Heaving a sigh, Tang Ye stood up and dusted off his clothes. Clothing options were scarce for him. It had taken him quite a while to find this windbreaker, something he held dear.
After dusting off the dirt, Tang Ye was about to head to a store to grab some items before leaving. But as he lifted his head, he froze.
"What’s going on?"
"Why is there such an unfamiliar memory in my mind?"
Tang Ye suddenly realized an incredibly unfamiliar memory had appeared in his mind, one he was certain wasn’t his!
His heart fluttered, but he quickly calmed himself down and tried to recall the memory...
The memory was from a first-person point of view. The individual in the memory seemed to be chasing after a delicate little girl. The girl, about thirteen or fourteen years old and dressed in a school uniform, was running in front of him.
Tang Ye couldn’t recall the surrounding environment in great detail, but he vaguely felt that it was a residential area - one he had never been to.
On both sides, poplar trees were lush, and colorful flowers grew at their roots, radiating the warmth of spring.
The feeling was beautiful; it comforted Tang Ye, even though the memory wasn’t his.
The girl occasionally looked back while running, her face sporting a mischievous smile.
"Come on, chase me! If you catch me, I’ll let you tease me, hee hee~"
"Sis, stop! Don’t run so fast, I can’t keep up!"
"No way! You have to rely on your skills."
"Waaa! I won’t do it! Come here! Stupid sister, bad sister, I don’t want you anymore!"
After running for a while, the individual suddenly halted, sitting huffing and puffing on the edge of a flower bed. The running girl also stopped, walked back to him, bent over, and reached out to touch "my" head.
"Out of breath?"
"Hmph! Sister is disobedient!"
"Alright, alright, let’s stop playing. We still have homework to do. Let’s go home, or mom will scold us."
"Sister has to help me!"
"No way!"
"Hmph, I’m not going home!"
"What do you want then?"
"I want to tease sister and make her cry!"
The girl had a helpless expression on her face.
"Alright, alright. Let’s go home first..."
"Mmm, let’s go."
The memory ended there, and Tang Ye couldn’t recall any more.
