Chapter 220: Chapter 218 What Kind of Good Thing Is This_1

The voice of a frustrated Tang Ye echoed in Li Qingtian’s ear. She froze, glancing around at their surroundings, but she found no one in sight.

A wave of panic washed over her. The scariest thing was the unknown, and this voice was exactly that, unknown!

"Who’s there? Come out!"

Li Qingtian stopped eating. She stood back-to-back with Li Henian, her entire body on high alert, her cells abuzz in anticipation of an attack from a stranger.

The doors to the store were shattered by an immense force, and a strange figure strolled out. He was of similar stature to Li Henian, wearing a giant windcoat and a "V for Vendetta" mask.

With his appearance, the air around them seemed to chill. A cold wind blew, reminiscent of evil spirits emerging from hell, sending a shiver down Li Qingtian’s spine.

Li Henian, on the other hand, was trembling like he had just seen his natural enemy, uncontrollably retreating.

It was a zombie. A powerful Level 3 zombie at that. But Tang Ye was of a higher level, which it naturally felt, invoking an inherent fear and reverence in lower-level zombies towards their superior counterparts. This caused Henian to retreat irrespective of Li Qingtian’s wishes.

Noticing Henian’s unusual behavior, Li Qingtian felt a pang of shock. "Is he afraid of the man before us?" she thought.

Tang Ye radiated a killing intent. He had finally found a group setting out from the survivors’ camp to gather supplies, conveniently without any evolved humans nearby. He had been tracking them.

His plan was to summon an evolved zombie to attack them. In the ensuing chaos, he could then swoop in and "save" the surviving group, thereby earning their trust and gaining entry into the survivor camp.

It was a classic case of a ’wolf in sheep’s clothing’ scenario.

Tang Ye took a while to locate another entrance to the survivor camp, but as he was about to enter, he discovered that several evolved humans were present.

During his time at Yindan Base, he had learned that these evolved humans could sense his abnormality - his lack of vital essences while looking like a human being was very odd indeed.

Tang Ye was in a fix. He could just force his way in, but his objective was to usurp the leadership, rather than commit a massacre.

Perhaps he could sneak past them wearing the mask, but he couldn’t guarantee they wouldn’t immediately open fire on him.

While there was a high chance that they wouldn’t attack at once and instead interrogate him, Tang Ye was still apprehensive. When infiltrating Yindan Base initially, his naivety had made him fearless.

Now that he understood the perceptiveness of evolved humans, and knowing that he was a criminal - better yet, a murderer - he felt like a suspect under police interrogation, quite on edge.

Eventually, Tang Ye came up with this ploy to get the survivors to take him in willingly. If that did not work, he resolved to try his luck and, if necessary, simply resort to brute force and kill anyone in his way.

Now, having followed a group of simpletons into the store, and knowing they were likely to stay for a while, Tang Ye went to look for an evolved zombie.

But within the span of a mere ten minutes, he returned to find everyone murdered!

He recognized the woman. He considered the possibility that a zombie could exist that, much like him, retained human intelligence. The thought was somewhat exhilarating and tempered his killing intent.

But upon seeing the girl, his excitement dampened. Although he longed for someone to relate to his position, could others be feeling lonely too?

Honestly, who would feel lonely with a girl like Ning Yu’er by their side?!

Perhaps, seeing a zombie just like himself, others would quickly try to kill such a threat.

Thinking this, Tang Ye’s face darkened. He had previously threatened to kill them the next time they met, had he not?

The killing intent returned, and the chilling aura around him made Li Qingtian increasingly defensive. As an evolved human, she could sense the vitality of others. The man before her, however, was practically lifeless, just like a corpse. His windcoat looked familiar, but she couldn’t place it.

Still, he radiated immense danger and killing intent, vehemence evident. Li Qingtian was not one to sit idle in the face of danger. She glanced at the trembling Li Henian.

Hesitation poked at her again. She had met plenty of evolved humans before, but this man seemed different. He lacked the unique aura of the evolved humans and seemed more like a brutal zombie. His ability to speak, however, rendered her unsure.

Her gaze turned icy. Reaching out, she took Henian’s trembling hand into hers. She offered him a reassuring glance. Holding her hand seemed to calm him down, and he even took a step forward.

"Don’t be afraid, okay?"

Softly caressing the back of Henian’s hand, she comforted him. Whether or not he understood, she turned back to face Tang Ye.

To see her holding hands with his fellow "zombie", Tang Ye’s eyes narrowed. Something about the scene seemed familiar, yet he couldn’t recall why. Yu’er hadn’t held his hand before. Or had she?

For some reason, Tang Ye felt a pang of envy; similar to how a single person dining alone in a restaurant must feel when a romantic couple on the next table starts cooing at each other. The sight could drive one insane!

This scene left him feeling nostalgic and a bit violent. He was bothered that she had something he didn’t. It made him want to destroy her happiness and witness her subsequent despair.

"Did I ruin your good time?"

"You killed these people!"

"And that ruined your good time?"

"It’s not a good time per se. I was just being cautious. It doesn’t really matter whether they lived or died"

"Cautious?" Li Qingtian was taken aback. She mulled over his words, unsure what he meant by being cautious. She perceived he was about to do something and tried to find the hidden meaning in his words.

"So this is being cautious?"

Tang Ye paused.

Right, why was he being cautious?

He could’ve created a diversion and slipped in unnoticed, so why was he playing it safe?

He then realized that he allowed Li Qingtian to divert the topic. This cunning little devil certainly had a way with words.

"Whether it’s good or bad isn’t for you to judge. I took a bit of risk, but I’m halfway through now. It would have been better if you hadn’t shown up, but now that you have, well, I’ll continue regardless! Hehe."

Tang Ye laughed coldly, his aura growing colder by the second.

Li Qingtian stepped back, preparing to retort, but then thought better of it. There was no avoiding battle with this "man". He sounded like a lunatic, and his words were somewhat unclear. It seemed like he was looking at things from his own perspective all the time...
