Chapter 181: Chapter 179: Thirty Thousand Tide of Corpses_1

The shell crashed into the recently clustered zombie group with formidable force. Continuous screams of torment arose. A flash of fire suddenly exploded on the street, and the bodies of the zombies were instantly torn to shreds. A mix of black, dirty blood and flesh from unknown parts flew everywhere!

At this time, there weren’t too many zombies on the street. After the soldiers fired the first round, they didn’t continue to attack and the other soldiers just raised their guns and waited silently, waiting for the zombies to enter their attack range.

Every so often, sporadic gunfire would echo from the anti-zombie wall. The shots were fired from long-range firearms aimed at depleting the zombie group.

Seeing how flimsy the incoming zombies were, the thought "So this is all the zombie tide is?" arose in the soldiers’ minds and they started to ease up.

Not long ago, the destruction of the Japan Ciwuben Base had brought a lot of negative emotions to many people, and they feared the zombie tide greatly. The previous zombie attack signal had everyone’s hearts racing. But now, the soldiers who didn’t care much about the zombie tide even had the leisure to exchange a few words from time to time with their comrades next to them.

But things were far from simple, this was just the beginning; greater difficulties are still to come!

Zombies continuously emerged from both ends of the street, running in droves towards the huge anti-zombie wall. When the leading zombies entered the soldiers’ firing range, a deep shout echoed, "Fire, damn it!"

An obviously high-ranking middle-aged non-commissioned officer, brandishing a gleaming zombie-slaying blade, yelled at the zombie crowd. As soon as his voice fell, bullets glittering in the air poured down on the zombie horde.

Zombies roared and fell, one after another. Ordinary zombies were all that appeared for now, the evolved zombies were still to come, and the outcome was obvious for the ordinary zombies when faced with human heat weapons.

Unable to take more than a few steps, they were torn to shreds by the barrage of bullets!

Zombies in the front fell like wheat under a scythe. Their bodies oozed thick clumps of black blood that accumulated, in no time, into a small pool of blood.

The soldiers’ attacks were still ongoing, and the number of zombies wasn’t great. In less than half a minute, they had wiped out all the zombies within the range of firearm shots!

Seeing this, Wen Yixian’s furrowed brows relaxed, and much of her previous unease vanished. She mocked herself with a smile, realizing that the situation here apparently didn’t warrant her concern; she could concentrate on what she wanted to do.

Like dealing with that damn zombie in the base, the kick it had landed on her still hurt!

Just as she was about to leave, as if heaven wouldn’t give her a break, her phone, in her pocket, suddenly vibrated twice.

She took out the phone casually, looked at the screen, and found two unread messages on her social media app - an obscure one she was using.

At first, she thought it was Ai Li sending her some heading results, but when she accessed the app, she found two pictures sent by a pilot who had just been sent out for a reconnaissance mission regarding the zombie tide.

The excitement in her heart immediately faded. But upon opening and viewing the two photos, her face instantly turned from red to pale!

"Everyone, stay alert! No carelessness allowed! Whoever dares to ignore the zombie tide will be shot dead on spot!"

The images captured from the air were of Liang City area streets, or rather, what used to be streets. They were now completely obscured by a black mass, like a river flowing through the city!

This blackness was the zombies!

A terrifying number of zombies!

Wen Yixian instantly lost all interest in checking out other places. She had no choice but to stay put - she needed to be aware of each second in this defensive war now.

If this anti-zombie wall, the only barrier for the Yindan Base, were to be breached, hundreds of thousands of lives in the base would become food for the zombies.

Hearing Wen Yixian’s inevitable words, a feeling of humiliation flashed across the soldiers’ faces. Being bossed around by a young girl, these grown men were somewhat unconvinced. Even though they knew she held a high rank, was this really necessary?

However, resentment aside, they were obligated to present an appropriate demeanor. They all straightened their backs slightly, and their gunfire attacks on the zombies became more aggressive!

The number of zombies kept increasing, gradually blocking the street. Meanwhile, in the areas unseen by the soldiers, one zombie after another heard the distant gunfire and became frenzied. The zombies blindly charged forward, knocking down their kin in front of them, making the already crowded street even more congested.

"Miss, we have a problem. We’ve received intel that there are at least thirty thousand zombies!"

"That many?"

Wen Yixian snapped irritably. Thirty thousand zombies were no small number. Perhaps Yindan Base could kill them all, but dealing with the aftermath of so many bodies would be a hassle.

However, the most pressing issue was resolving this crisis first.

Roar!

A formidable zombie roar sounded, and a Level 1 strength-type zombie appeared on the street. Soon, a second one appeared, then a third...

They knocked down the common zombies in front of them and charged ahead. A small speed-type zombie broke through in no time and made its way to the front, penetrating the defenses. But no sooner had it entered the range of fire than it was riddled by flying bullets, its head blown to pieces.

It was feared there was not much of the evolution crystal left in its brain.

Seeing the large-scale gathering of zombies, the soldiers decided not to hold back on their artillery shells. Several immobile heavy cannons were hoisted onto the anti-zombie wall using tower cranes. Once the soldiers had locked them into place using the chains on the wall, they launched an attack on the zombie horde!

Boom! Boom! Boom...

A series of blasts erupted. Amidst the thick smoke, the street outside the base was left with holes everywhere. Each hole was the result of an explosive shell, filled with zombie flesh turned into goo.

A zombie was blown half apart by the powerful shell and yet it still stubbornly attempted to crawl away, its white eyes filled with a craving for flesh.

However, it was doomed not to live for long. A bullet pierced straight through its head, ending its zombie life.

As more and more immobile heavy cannons were transported onto the anti-zombie wall, the blasts became more frequent. With every explosion, dozens of zombie lives were claimed.

Zombie roars filled the air outside the base, the sound penetrating the base and reaching the ears of many survivors. The survivors, who had been clamoring on the streets over the lack of porridge, ran towards their homes without looking back upon hearing the familiar sound of zombie roars.

The content of the video, depicting the Main Ciwu base being overrun by the zombie tide, was still fresh in their minds. The screams of people in mortal peril still made their skin crawl every time they recalled them.

No one liked despair. In the base, even if they were hungry, at least they had relief porridge to eat. It was far better than being eaten by zombies.
