I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World -
Chapter 1601 - 1595: The Scavenger
Chapter 1601: Chapter 1595: The Scavenger
Ah!!
Bald Head let out a miserable scream and then crashed heavily onto the ground. Brother Shi and the others hurriedly rushed over to try to catch him, but it was too late. Fortunately, the overpass wasn’t very high, only about ten meters. Bald Head was a Level 2 New Human, so falling from that height would at most result in minor injuries, especially with the protection of the exoskeleton battle armor.
What truly terrified him was the endless sea of zombies below!
Roar!
The Level 7 zombie blocking the way let out a ferocious roar and began advancing step by step toward them. The group frantically stepped back while raising their Tianguangs and firing relentlessly at it. Hundred of laser beams stormed toward it like a torrential downpour!
However, in its eyes, the speed of the lasers was akin to vehicles rushing by at full speed—easy to dodge. With another furious roar, it leapt backward heavily and jumped into the air, effortlessly avoiding the torrent of lasers aimed at it. But the barrage was fiercely concentrated; five people were firing at the same time, saturating the area with beams. Even as it tried to evade, many lasers struck its body, melting flesh with intense heat and leaving charred, small pits dotted across its form.
A Level 7 zombie possesses basic intelligence, comparable to that of a seven- or eight-year-old child, though it edges closer to adult cognition. Initially, it feared the humans’ weapons as it realized they could hurt it. Yet for a creature incapable of feeling pain, it began to think little of the harm inflicted. Without hesitation, it charged wildly into the storm of lasers!
"Run!"
Seeing this, Ghost Head and the others dared not linger any further. They turned tail and fled, but how could their speed possibly match that of the Level 7 zombie? The next moment, Ghost Head felt a searing, ripping pain across his back!
Turning his head, he saw the zombie right behind him. Its claws had gripped his clothing and pierced into his flesh with immense force, shredding skin and muscle in an instant.
"Ah!"
Ghost Head screamed in agony, collapsing to the ground. After the fall, getting back up proved near impossible. Moments later, he felt something grabbing his legs and his face twisted into despair. But just at that dire moment, a laser beam sliced cleanly through the air with a sharp "swish" and struck the zombie squarely in its eye!
Thud!
Right before Ghost Head, the eye of the Level 7 zombie burst open, spewing viscous black fluid everywhere, splattering onto his face!
Its sudden loss of vision startled even the zombie, which couldn’t feel pain. It started flailing about aimlessly, transitioning from four limbs to standing on two legs. Its claws dug furiously into its eye socket while its head tilted back unnaturally. Its mouth opened to an absurd degree as it let out an earth-shaking roar!
Grooooarrrr!!
Taking the opportunity, Ghost Head ignored his excruciating pain and scrambled off the ground, staggering desperately in Brother Shi’s direction.
"Hell yeah! Holy f*ck!"
The situation was still dire, but the sight just now was nothing short of spectacular. Brother Shi bellowed at Yong, who had fired the shot that exploded the zombie’s eye—it could only have been him!
Brother Shi was at a loss for words to express his admiration for Yong. A sharpshooter? No, this guy was a goddamn legend!
With some distance now between them and the Level 7 zombie, Ghost Head’s terror-filled expression gradually softened into a smile. Only he could truly describe the feeling of narrowly escaping with his life.
"Thank you... thank you, thank you, thank you..." Ghost Head stammered, repeating his gratitude to Yong, unable to articulate his emotions properly.
Grrr... roar!
Meanwhile, the Level 7 zombie whose eye had been blasted out continued to howl uncontrollably. Its claws were still digging into its socket as more black, sticky liquid poured profusely out. Finally, it tilted its head sharply downward, and even more fluid gushed forth. Then, standing on two legs, it smashed its forelimbs heavily onto the ground!
Boom!
A deafening sound echoed as cracks spread across the surface of the overpass, threatening imminent collapse. The group’s hearts leapt to their throats once again!
The zombie seemed to adapt to having lost an eye. Inside its hollow socket, budding flesh started to grow, granting it a sense of relief. It began advancing toward the group again, driving an oppressive force that made breathing feel impossible.
"F*ck your mother!" Crooked Neck roared, clutching his Tianguang in one hand while manipulating its controls with the other.
"What the hell are you doing?" Brother Shi immediately understood. Crooked Neck intended to push the Tianguang to max power output. The Tianguang, as one of the most advanced weapons in the post-apocalyptic world, was far more powerful than what they had been utilizing thus far. At maximum output, the Tianguang could potentially heavily wound a Level 8 Powerhouse and easily kill a Level 7 zombie. However, switching to such high power came with immense risks. Not only would it produce immense recoil dangerous for Level 5 New Humans, but even being slightly off-target could result in the user’s instant death.
And the energy consumption pushed the gun’s toll on their bodies to the brink.
"You’re going to get yourself killed!"
"If we don’t do this, we’re all dead!" Crooked Neck shouted back.
Though Yong had just hit the zombie’s weakest point on its body, the reality was their weapons at current power levels were still far too ineffective. Only by cranking up the Tianguang to its maximum setting did they stand a chance of killing this monster!
Crooked Neck couldn’t afford to hesitate any longer. He knew in his heart that this couldn’t end here. Back in Dangerous Sanctuary City, his wife and children were waiting for him. If he died, they would surely perish in this sea of zombies!
He had to make a gamble!
Firmly gripping the locking pin on the Tianguang’s barrel, Crooked Neck twisted it to the red marker, signifying maximum power output for the next shot. But as soon as he completed the adjustment, the Level 7 zombie lunged forward!
The group cried out in alarm, scattering frantically to dodge. Brother Shi grabbed Crooked Neck and dragged him aside. This time, the zombie’s target was Yong—it had identified him as the greatest threat among them!
If it wanted to relish its feast, it would first have to eliminate this meddlesome rival!
