I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World -
Chapter 1559 - 1553: The Main Culprit
Chapter 1559: Chapter 1553: The Main Culprit
A few people quickly stood up from their seats. Telermia, the closest to the door, was the first to open the private room door and walk out. Su Sigui and the others followed behind him. The first thing they saw was the chaotic scene in the pub’s main hall!
Some of the pub’s patrons, dancers, and servers were lying on the ground, groaning in pain. On both sides, the soundproof glass walls had inexplicably shattered into countless pieces, the flying debris injuring quite a few people. Outside, piercing screams echoed incessantly.
"What happened?"
Kobayashi Hota, still disoriented, wasn’t sure what had just occurred. Instinctively, he thought it might be the shockwaves from nearby battles between high-level new humans that had caused the disturbance here.
The group hurriedly stepped out of the pub and looked outside. Although the Ah-Lan Pub wasn’t particularly well-known in Cloud Gorge Base and was widely regarded as just a small tavern, it secretly served as a private meeting place for several key figures of the base. As such, the pub’s building materials were relatively secure, and except for some fragile objects, the structure hadn’t suffered major damage. However, as Su Sigui and the group walked out, their eyes immediately landed on cracked floor tiles. The damage wasn’t extensive, and Su Sigui quickly deduced that the commotion originated from afar, likely outside the area enclosed by Cloud Gorge Base’s anti-zombie walls.
The magnitude of the impact was far beyond what a Level 8 entity could create.
She pulled out her phone and dialed a contact. After two rings, the call was answered promptly.
"Mayor?"
"What’s going on?"
"I’ve already sent people to investigate, but we don’t know yet."
"You have ten minutes."
"Understood."
After hanging up, Su Sigui turned her gaze to Ji Jinchan and the other three, saying, "Let’s talk later. First, let’s figure out what just happened."
"Alright, we’ll arrange a team first."
"Go ahead, but be careful not to attract attention from individuals with ulterior motives."
"Rest assured, Mayor."
The group exchanged brief farewells with Su Sigui before heading off in different directions. Shortly thereafter, Su Sigui’s phone rang again. She swiftly pulled it out and answered the call, the voice on the other end the same as before.
"Mayor, we’ve identified the cause, and images have been sent to you. Take a look. We’re contacting Tianyu for further examination."
"Okay."
Responding tersely, Su Sigui ended the call and opened a smartphone app. A new message notification appeared on the screen.
She tapped to open it, revealing several photos captured by a drone at high altitude.
"Hmm?" Upon seeing the images, Su Sigui murmured in quiet suspicion.
The photos depicted a massive sinkhole, its depth estimated to be fifty or sixty meters! The area of the sinkhole was enormous; judging from the mist visible at the edges of the images, one could infer the drone’s height above ground level.
The sinkhole appeared to have formed suddenly. The severed roads and partially collapsed buildings around it made that clear, as did the falling rubble cascading into the pit.
Judging from the surrounding structures, the sinkhole seemed to be located in the middle of a city. However, most of the buildings had been swallowed by the enormous pit, making it hard to determine the exact location. Fortunately, a textual description followed shortly after the images.
"Mayor, this is Xi River City. We are investigating the cause now."
"Xi River City?"
Su Sigui’s eyes narrowed. Wasn’t this the city where Li Henian went missing?
But she didn’t linger on the thought for too long. Another message popped up, this time from Yan Xing.
"Mayor, you’ve heard what happened, right? You may need to come here personally. This is serious trouble."
Her brows furrowed as she opened her chat interface with Yan Xing and asked directly, "What kind of trouble?"
"Yao Gong detected two sources of high-grade anti-life matter activity. The readings have already surpassed Level 8..."
Upon seeing this, Su Sigui didn’t reply further but immediately pocketed her phone and set off for Xi River City!
Meanwhile, deep within the sinkhole in an undamaged metro station platform, Tang Ye’s eyes abruptly snapped open. His hand tightly gripped a struggling zombie.
"I’ve returned?"
As he loosened his grip, the zombie bolted away as if fleeing a harbinger of doom. As it passed him, another zombie, half its body missing, curiously fixed its frosty white gaze on Tang Ye. But when Tang Ye glanced in its direction, it immediately accelerated, scuttling away as fast as it could. Instinctively, it understood that this "human" was far superior, the apex of their kind!
It dared not disturb him!
Tang Ye stood up, feeling incredibly alert. It was as if waking from a dream where every detail had suddenly become vividly real.
Crack~ Crack~
He twisted his neck, his body brimming with "calories." The reserve had nearly exceeded capacity, far surpassing what he had before arriving at Cloud Gorge Base!
"How do I get out of here now?"
Surveying his surroundings, Tang Ye quickly determined he was on a metro platform. Above him, the ceiling was riddled with cracks, while behind him, the staircase leading to the exit was completely blocked, letting in no light. The entire platform, including the metro tracks, was steeped in darkness.
Fortunately, Tang Ye could discern everything in the dark. The wall-mounted advertisements from before the Apocalypse had accumulated a thick layer of dust, but some exposed text allowed him to confirm that he was indeed in Xi River City. The ground was covered with a thick blanket of grime, intermixed with dismembered limbs that had long since turned skeletal, faintly hinting at the chaos when the Apocalypse descended.
Approaching the exit, he examined it for a moment, preparing to smash through the concrete debris blocking his path when, suddenly, he heard a sound from behind. Tang Ye swiftly turned, spotting a thread-like object flicker briefly in the metro tunnel.
"Was that...?"
Tang Ye hesitated for a moment before heading toward it. Navigating past crumbled sections of reinforced glass wall, he saw a dark mass within the subway tunnel!
As his gaze landed on the object, it emitted a sharp, piercing scream and leapt from the ground. That was when Tang Ye saw it clearly. The entity was a giant eyeball, roughly the size of a truck tire! Its pupil contained strange, intricate patterns, while fine threads rippled across its surface.
After its scream, the monstrous eye hopped onto the platform and began to levitate, fixating its gaze squarely on Tang Ye!
"So, you’re the culprit after all," Tang Ye muttered coldly.
