Chapter 1509: Chapter 1504: Sudden Gunshot
Tang Ye raised his hand and quickly said, "I have no ill intentions, do you understand Chinese?" Tang Ye spoke in Chinese, hoping the other party could understand him.
The man looked at Tang Ye with confusion, but seemed to relax after seeing him raise his hand. He made a few syllables towards Tang Ye. Sure enough, Tang Ye couldn’t understand them.
Tang Ye shook his head. Seeing that the man didn’t understand Chinese, he figured he’d have to try English...
After recalling for a moment in his mind, he asked the man in very broken English, "Can you speak Chinese?"
"Chinese?" The man was taken aback upon hearing Tang Ye’s quite strange English, and uttered a few syllables again.
Tang Ye was familiar with these syllables and immediately nodded and said, "Right! Yes yes!"
The man shook his head and replied in English, "Sorry... I can’t speak Chinese..."
The man’s sentence was a bit short, and Tang Ye didn’t fully understand it. After all, his English was quite poor; he only understood the word at the beginning...
Sorry — meaning apologies.
This essentially confirmed that the man couldn’t speak Chinese. Tang Ye felt a bit disappointed and nodded at him, intending to leave. But then he remembered something and threw the remaining canned food and the rest of the sausage he had over to the man. Judging from the food at the end of the bed, their life here seemed to be not good, maybe even harder than that of people in the early Apocalypse. The reason he hadn’t given all the food to the cats was exactly to use these items to express his goodwill to the people here.
After Tang Ye tossed the food onto the bed, both the man and the boy were stunned, looking at Tang Ye in disbelief, not yet grasping the reason behind his actions.
It wasn’t long before the man snapped out of it and said something to the boy. The boy then meticulously inspected the sausage and the canned food, and finally nodded at the man.
Tang Ye didn’t pay them any mind. The father and son were still wary of him, but since he couldn’t get useful information from the two of them in Sky Building, staying there would be pointless.
With that thought, Tang Ye walked out of the bedroom door. Just as he was stepping out of the suite’s threshold, the man’s call came from behind him, as if he was calling for Tang Ye.
Turning back, the man rushed out of the room, hastily saying something to him. But Tang Ye couldn’t understand a word, not because of, but he subconsciously spoke in his local language.
Tang Ye looked at the man with confusion, and it was then the man realized Tang Ye couldn’t understand the language. Nonetheless, he couldn’t help but chatter away in words Tang Ye couldn’t comprehend, all the while gesturing something with his hands.
Finally, seeing Tang Ye’s continued puzzled expression, the man didn’t try to express anything more, just muttered a phrase to Tang Ye. It looked like he was asking Tang Ye to wait here for a moment. Then, he entered an adjacent kitchen that was cluttered with various items. Shortly after, the man emerged with a black object in hand—Tang Ye took a closer look, it was a gun!
Approaching Tang Ye, the man pointed towards the window and started gesturing again. Tang Ye squinted and observed. It seemed the man was saying there was danger outside and that Tang Ye should take the item for self-defense?
Next, the man took Tang Ye’s hand and placed the handgun into his palm. He pointed again towards the window and made some gestures. Finally, he brought his hands together in front of himself, bowed slightly, showing his gratitude to Tang Ye.
Gazing at the gun in his hand, Tang Ye was momentarily perplexed. He could only roughly understand the man’s gestures and said to the man, "Goodbye?"
"See... you?"
The man replied to Tang Ye with the limited Chinese vocabulary he knew. Tang Ye nodded and walked out of the room, the man following behind as if to see him off.
After stepping out of the room, he said something else to Tang Ye. Though Tang Ye did not understand, it seemed to express a sentiment similar to telling him to be careful out there.
"Be careful."
The man spoke in English as Tang Ye was going downstairs, which Tang Ye understood to mean ’be careful.’ But not knowing how to respond, he could only turn back and give the man an awkward smile. The man returned the smile and then turned to enter the room. When he tried to shut the door, he found that it wouldn’t close!
Upon inspection, the man saw that the lock cylinder was completely twisted, with another piece jammed inside. He stared at Tang Ye dumbfounded, unable to comprehend how the door had been destroyed like this.
Tang Ye simply offered him a mysteriously enigmatic smile, then descended the stairs. After leaving the building, Tang Ye opened his gun’s magazine to see that, as expected, there were no bullets. He pondered what the man’s intentions might have been.
Of course, there could be other meanings, but Tang Ye couldn’t understand the man’s words, so he had no idea what purpose the gun served.
After committing the father and son upstairs to memory, Tang Ye headed toward the direction of another living being’s presence.
Bang!
But Tang Ye hadn’t gone far when he heard a loud noise, like setting off firecrackers during New Year’s festivities, stark and attention-grabbing in the quiet environment.
Tang Ye’s brow furrowed instantly. The sound was all too familiar; in the time before the Apocalypse, he’d had plenty of encounters with it—it seemed to be the sound of modern firearms.
His gaze shifted toward the direction of the sound. There were several presences of living beings in that direction. Without a second thought, Tang Ye immediately sprinted toward that location!
Navigating through the dilapidated buildings and across several streets, Tang Ye spotted a raggedy-dressed man tumbling into a building from a good distance away. Behind him were two other individuals, both holding firearms, one of whom was black and was shouting at the one running ahead to stop!
As the two reached the middle of the road, Tang Ye saw them, but at the same time, they also saw Tang Ye. They stopped in their tracks, abandoning the chase and instead started walking towards Tang Ye.
"Kuri?"
The black man uttered a syllable, with his assault rifle pointing at Tang Ye, an unfriendly expression on his face. Following the black man’s actions, the accompanying white person was startled, noticing the gun in Tang Ye’s hand and quickly aiming his weapon at Tang Ye while shouting something, then slowly approaching Tang Ye.
Without a doubt, if Tang Ye made any strange move, the two men would shoot without hesitation!
Throughout this, Tang Ye was squinting at the two men until they were just over ten meters away, at which point he dumped the magazine from his pistol to show them that there were no bullets, indicating that he posed no threat.
However, this action seemed to stun the two men, who couldn’t quite grasp what this move was about.
Any normal person in such a situation wouldn’t blatantly reveal that their gun was empty, right?
