Chapter 1456: Chapter 1451: No Sons, No Daughters, Just a House
The words that came out of the hotel manager’s mouth carried a hint of suspicious warning. Of course, there was also a kind-hearted reminder, as if someone was about to embark on a very dangerous adventure with high mortality rates. It might all turn out to be nothing, but it was akin to gambling with the Grim Reaper - win and gain nothing, lose and it’s a farewell to life.
With such feelings, the hotel manager thus spoke to Tang Ye.
However, at the same time, there was another layer of meaning in these words, which Tang Ye of course could hear - that was: "No viewing allowed!"
"Let’s leave such matters for the police to handle, sir. There’s no need for you to worry."
Without saying anything more, Tang Ye nodded, but it was in that instant of nodding that he remembered something, which he quickly forgot, his face reflecting deep thought. At that moment, a few people in black police uniforms walked into the hotel, and upon seeing them, the hotel manager immediately said to Tang Ye, "Sir, I have a bit of business to attend to, so I won’t disturb you any further."
"Okay, go ahead with your work."
The hotel manager nodded slightly in assent and then went to greet the police officers who had entered the hotel, settling them on the sofas in the lobby. In the meantime, she called over a girl who had just passed by.
"Little Li, go to the rice noodle shop outside and order a bowl of beef rice noodles for Dong Bo."
The girl, upon hearing the manager’s voice, promptly nodded and replied, "Alright."
The hotel staff bustled about, everyone starting their day’s work, the air filled with a busy atmosphere.
Tang Ye didn’t continue to linger and turned to head upstairs. The hotel manager’s implication was clear - he was just an "ordinary person", neither authorized nor capable of meddling in this affair, but that wouldn’t stop him from giving up. The only thing that came to his mind now was to check the surveillance, having just remembered something, but then forgot what else he was meant to do after checking it.
Besides checking the surveillance, all he could do was pray that he might see something on the monitors.
"What was I just thinking about?" Muttering to himself, Tang Ye began searching for the hotel’s Security Room. There were surveillance cameras at the end of each floor’s corridor, only he wasn’t sure where the Security Room was located.
After about seven or eight minutes, Tang Ye returned to the ground floor, looking around with a puzzled face: "Strange, where’s the Security Room?"
Just as he murmured this, the next second he saw the girl the hotel manager called Little Li walking past him with a steaming bowl of rice noodles and heading straight for the back door.
"Uh?"
Perhaps having thought of something, Tang Ye nodded and followed this girl addressed as Little Li out the door.
Exiting through the hotel’s back door led to the parking lot.
"Dong Bo, you got here early!"
Tang Ye watched as the girl, carrying beef rice noodles, smilingly approached an elderly man around sixty years old. The smile on Tang Ye’s face was a bit odd, he always felt as if Little Li’s smile had a bit of flattery, as if she was trying to ingratiate herself with someone.
The old man happily accepted the bowl of rice noodles, saying kindly, "Thank you so much, much trouble for you."
"No trouble at all."
"Hold on to it for me, look how you’ve burned your hand. You go on with your work, don’t mind this old man."
"It’s fine, it’s fine, just take your time, sir."
"Alright, alright."
The old man nodded towards Little Li, then headed towards the parking lot entrance. Tang Ye couldn’t help feeling that the old man looked like someone who would be a gatekeeper. Was it really necessary for a girl in the prime of her youth to treat him this way? Of course, it could just be his own shallow perspective; perhaps Little Li was simply showing pure respect for the elderly, and it was he himself who couldn’t help indulging in random thoughts.
"Eh? Did I just forget something?" Tang Ye shook his head, frustrated with the fleeting thought that had already slipped away, faintly remembering his curiosity about the old man’s identity.
So, he directly stopped Little Li, asking, "Wait a second."
"What is it?"
"The person you just delivered breakfast to, who is he?"
"Ah?"
Upon hearing this question, Little Li was taken aback, giving Tang Ye a very strange look, as if her gaze alone was enough to say that Tang Ye must be nutty.
Who wouldn’t feel odd if a total stranger suddenly inquired about someone’s identity?
Tang Ye quickly realized his indiscretion and hurriedly explained, "Don’t get me wrong, I’m just that kind of person, often curious about things. You should also know how men are, always having some unrealistic dreams. Mine is the dream of becoming a detective."
"Pfft~"
Hearing this, Little Li couldn’t help but burst out laughing, saying, "You’re really amusing."
Tang Ye scratched his head: "Really?"
Little Li chuckled again, but she was no actress. What Tang Ye had said simply amused her, quickly dismissing some of her initial suspicion.
"That person is called Dong Bo; he’s our gatekeeper here. But don’t underestimate him, he has another identity - he’s the landlord of this hotel building, we pay him four hundred thousand a year!"
"And the most important thing is, Dong Bo is childless..." Little Li’s voice trailed off, but Tang Ye felt disappointment. He tried to recall what he had forgotten earlier; it definitely wasn’t the so-called identity of Dong Bo.
"Well, I’m off then."
Seeing Tang Ye seemingly lost in thought, Little Li said this and left the parking lot, returning to the hotel.
Just then Dong Bo appeared at the entrance of the parking lot and walked into a room nearby. Tang Ye caught a glimpse inside as he opened the door, and then he saw several monitor screens on a desk.
"Forget it, I’ll stop thinking and just check the surveillance."
Giving up on trying to recall his earlier thoughts, Tang Ye directly headed for the place Dong Bo had entered, the room likely being the guard’s rest area.
The unsuspecting Dong Bo, who had not yet had a chance to close the door, felt it jam as though someone was pushing against it, and he couldn’t close it no matter how hard he tried!
"Is the door broken?" Dong Bo was startled and was about to check, but as he pushed the door open, he was suddenly met with a face, nearly startling him into a heart attack on the spot!
"Who are you?"
He blurted out the question, but before he could finish, he froze as if he had not seen Tang Ye at all, passing by him and walking out.
And without further words, Tang Ye sat down in Dong Bo’s chair and began operating the surveillance footage after Dong Bo had left.
