Chapter 1416: Chapter 1411: The Silver Tide of Corpses
The corpse wall standing in the distance bore patchy bloodstains. As the girl moved, the surrounding buildings became sparser; they had all been demolished by people. Furthermore, no more concrete or asphalt could be seen on the ground, only black soil. Some patches were covered with a thin film, beneath which seeds were buried. Not far away, some newly sprouted plants could already be seen growing from the land.
People were watering the ground with pale green, strange liquid from their watering cans.
Parts of the tentacles clung to the corpse wall, odd-looking flowers sprouting from them. This stretch of the corpse wall bore many breaches struck open; some sections of the wall even collapsed. Through the gaps in the wall, one could see a bizarre, purplish-red flesh mass outside, from which forked tentacles occasionally reached out, grasping something unknown.
She could see quite a few people climbing the corpse wall, apparently discussing how to leave. The ruling high-level zombies here did not interfere with them, seemingly because that purplish-red flesh mass existed to prevent anyone from escaping. But so far, she had not heard of anyone truly leaving this place.
The further she walked, the more she could see the vast gashes torn into the earth by clashes of Level 8 Powerhouses. This survivor enclave did not have Level 8 New Humans; instead, they were aided by Level 8 New Humans sent from the Wanxing Shelter City to the east. However, merely three Level 8 New Humans were ineffective; in the end, all three perished, and the defense against the onslaught of corpses at this base ended in complete failure!
The city did not fall, but the outcome was even more disheartening than a fall!
Climbing the corpse wall and looking outside, there were still many people besides her. Some sighed in resignation and walked down the wall, while others repeatedly ascended, looking outside with eyes filled with hope, boldly discussing how to leave this place with those around them.
During the zombie rule, people were granted the utmost freedom—they weren’t concerned with what people talked about but didn’t let anyone leave easily. If anyone attempted to leave and got caught, there was only one punishment: to be consumed prematurely!
Outside the corpse wall, there were many huge purplish-red flesh masses. The purpose of these flesh masses was to capture those trying to flee the city. Unless one was a Level 8 New Human, it was impossible to escape from the tentacles that stretched out from the flesh masses. But even Level 8 New Humans could not guarantee a 100% chance of escape, because outside, there weren’t just the Zombie King’s followers, but also the Eyes of the Zombie King!
This was one of Lan Ou, the Nightmare Zombie King’s abilities—it could cause severe hallucinations. However, no one knew exactly what it felt like, because those who tried ended up either as fodder in their bellies or as one of the zombies.
She looked at the flesh masses with a trace of bewilderment in her eyes. As an ordinary person, how can she escape? But her soul was excited, eager to leave immediately; she couldn’t stay one moment longer!
The strange compulsion and the unsettling fear of failure almost made her collapse!
She looked around. In the very center of this survivor enclave stood a building, half of its walls overtaken by large tentacles. She didn’t know what that building was, but it was definitely not a good place. She had heard that inside lived a Zombie King follower known as Malice.
Beyond the corpse wall’s horizon lay a black line. This scene bore some resemblance to one seen a week ago, but given the current state of this survivor base, people didn’t consider that perspective. They watched the black line thicken bit by bit; as time passed, the sense of impending oppression grew clearer.
The girl glanced sideways; there were quite a few people around, and she could also see several Level 5 New Humans. But no one dared to jump down from the wall, hesitating before eventually giving up.
"Ah Ming... I’m sorry, so sorry..."
Her brother’s voice echoed in her mind; not long ago, he was still by her side, but now he had disappeared. As she remembered his face, the girl’s heart grew more sorrowful, more tormented—the strong impulse grew increasingly intense.
Tortured on both fronts, she continued to harbor thoughts of suicide, but the instinctive fear of death kept her from taking that step. In the end, she could only close her eyes, yearning for one last struggle—to continue living here was unbearable for her; all she wanted was to leave!
If she could not leave, perhaps death was her best outcome!
The world before her was shrouded in darkness, she kept telling herself to just slide down! Then run with all your might! Regardless of success or failure!
But at the moment she felt she was about to take that step, she heard someone next to her utter a bewildering phrase with a voice of disbelief!
"What is that? Is that... a zombie horde?"
"Zombie horde?"
"How can there be a zombie horde?"
"I can see it clearly, that’s definitely a zombie horde! A silver zombie horde!"
"That must be a joke, right?"
Everyone’s gaze turned toward the distance. That previously unnoticed dark line seemed to thicken as the distance closed, and among them, only a few Level 5 New Humans possessed the eyesight to see it clearly, while the rest saw only a blurry image. Still, they could faintly discern hints of a dark silver color becoming more visible.
"It can’t be possible, can there be a zombie horde?"
"Who knows!"
The few Level 5 New Humans widened their eyes, trying to make out more details. Yet as time passed, they were increasingly confident that it was indeed a zombie horde. There were countless zombies, silver zombies!
An extreme sense of oppression descended, nearly stopping everyone’s breath, the intense bloodlust let people know that this horde of zombies surging this way was definitely not harboring good intentions!
But what was happening here? This was a survivor base already ruled by zombies, how could there be a zombie horde approaching this place?
People couldn’t figure it out, but they also realized they should not stay here any longer. As the first person ran down the zombie-defense wall, others followed in succession, heading towards the urban area.
The girl was stunned for a good while before she suddenly latched on to a key point.
Zombie horde? Silver zombies?
Could these be another type of royal zombie, distinct from the demonic-sound zombies?
Their Zombie King is the White-haired Zombie King that has been missing for a long time...
She looked around, noticed people starting to leave the zombie-defense wall, and suppressed the thoughts in her mind. She followed them down; for now, disregarding exactly what was happening, it seemed this wasn’t for humans to meddle with. This survivor base had long become a breeding ground for demonic-sound zombies; she would leave all the trouble to them to handle.
