I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World
Chapter 1413 - 1408: The Final Obstacle

Chapter 1413: Chapter 1408: The Final Obstacle

A Level 8 Powerhouse from the City of Bright Moon hesitated before glancing at Su Sigui. Eventually, led away by Xu Tianyu, they all left the meeting room. Before long, only Su Sigui remained. She did not leave, instead turning her gaze toward the streets below, woven between the dense buildings. No one knew what she was thinking. Since she had once again narrowly escaped death, she was determined to take a path that no one else had trod before.

People cannot lose hope, and hope may well be an opportunity. She wanted to give everyone a chance, a chance for rebirth, not to wash away everything with blood.

Everyone makes mistakes, but not all mistakes are irredeemable.

She stood in front of the viewing wall, watching everything below as if she were a divine being overlooking the entire world, or like a statue—impassive, coldly observing all that was happening before her. Perhaps for a moment, she experienced the same thoughts and resonated briefly with that person from a different time and space.

About half an hour later, the meeting room door opened, and six people entered. It was then that Su Sigui finally moved. She turned to look at the door of the meeting room, her gaze sweeping over those six people’s faces, a faint smile appearing on her face. It was from this moment that the meeting truly began.

Among the six people, one was Kimura Arata from Japan, one was Zheng Banqi from Goryeo, two were Caucasians named Pruka Edwin and Thelma Fried, and the two Chinese people were the aforementioned Ji Jinchan and Zhang Linglai.

Su Sigui was slightly surprised by the appearance of the two men. She had not expected Nakama Hidehito’s mention of several "Misters" to include Ji Jinchan and Jiang Ping.

Neither of them had raised their hands before.

"Alright, from now on, we should call Mayor Su our comrade-in-arms. Please forgive my previous disrespect," Ji Jinchan spoke first upon entering, and his voice was heavy as he finished the last two words.

"Hahaha, it seems we have one more amongst us!"

Beside him, Pruka let out a hearty laugh that lightened the atmosphere in the meeting room.

"Mayor Su, I would like to express my gratitude to you."

"Me too. I didn’t raise my hand earlier to avoid suspicion, so I hope you don’t mind, Mayor Su. I am more than willing to make an effort in this matter."

The group bantered back and forth, and Su Sigui just smiled without saying a word, gesturing towards the chairs nearby, and everyone took their seats.

"Nakama Hidehito has already spoken to me, Mayor Su, this is for you," Ji Jinchan continued without mincing words, bringing out a white, unopened letter and handing it to Su Sigui with earnestness in his tone.

"We feel the same. Before the apocalypse, I never thought I’d amount to much, just a normal life—marrying, having children, and living out a busy yet mundane life. But to my surprise, I’m standing here today. It’s a sobering thought. That day is inevitable, but the sooner we make an effort, the better our chances of resisting success. And if I should perish, of course, there’s also a chance our efforts will bear no fruit. But! If we succeed, even if I perish in the end, I’ll have no regrets, for my name will be a significant mark in the history of humanity’s continuation."

"Let me introduce myself. I’m Ji Jinchan, Mr. One from H."

"Zhang Linglai, Mr. Two."

"Zheng Banqi, Mr. Three."

"Just call me Pruka, Mr. Four."

"Kimura Arata, Mr. Five."

"Thelma Fried, Mr. Six."

The six Level 8 Powerhouses in front of her, as if meeting for the first time, began to introduce themselves. This scene made Su Sigui genuinely smile, reintroducing herself as if meeting anew, a fresh start, and a rebirth.

"From now on, if you’re looking for us, come to the 19th Street Ah-Lan Tavern at Shanhe T71. You can ask for someone named Huang Gui to contact us."

"Yes, we usually meet there."

"Okay, I’ve got it, and thank you all for everything you’ve been doing."

"Ah, it’s nothing; at first, we were all just looking out for ourselves. Although we might look like fools, we all understand the risks. We’re just afraid of being double-crossed, so no one dares to take the lead."

"Exactly!"

"We’re confident of success. Humanity has evolved for millions of years; it can’t just end like this. There’s a saying... how does it go?"

"God never bars one’s way."

"That’s right, that’s right. ’God never bars one’s way,’ and there’s also that one..."

"’The ship will straighten itself when it reaches the bridge.’"

"Yes, that’s it! ’The ship will straighten itself when it reaches the bridge.’ Our civilization has come this far; we’ve seen all sorts of tempests, but the outcome has always been the same—we’ll have the last laugh! Although... it may be a bit of a struggle."

"Believe me, guys, being involved in this is the most honorable moment of my life. We will be the greatest heroes in the endless years to come!"

"Hahaha."

"If our efforts are rewarded and this damned apocalypse ends with us still alive, maybe all of us will have married and had kids. Then we’ll get together here and have a damn good drink."

"Yes, yes, yes! Haha..."

Pruka’s robust laughter echoed once again, but gradually, he couldn’t keep it up, and the laughter turned awkward, returning the atmosphere to a somber state. Pruka’s expression also grew somber.

Indeed, perhaps their efforts would not be in vain, and humanity might survive this ultimate ordeal and escape the apocalypse. But this is no fairy tale; sacrifice is unavoidable. Who could say? At some point, one of them might remain in yesterday.

Su Sigui felt this the most deeply; the only Level 9 New Human had been torn to pieces before her very eyes. If a Level 9 New Human could die, then so could they, including herself. Despite overcoming the most difficult obstacle, she still couldn’t guarantee that she would continue to live.

Moreover, the destruction of the Cloud Gorge Base by the Zombie King was far from the end. Beyond the White-haired Zombie King, an even more challenging ordeal loomed over all of humanity!

Given this, could the few of them still gather in the days to come to reminisce about all that they had experienced together?

PS: Brothers, the new year has arrived, shouldn’t we have some festive spirit? Hehe~
