Chapter 140 - 137: Demon Scorpion_1

Chapter 140: Chapter 137: Demon Scorpion_1

"A count of two-thousand... seven! What the-!"

"Th...three! A Level 3! A Level 3 speedy zombie!"

"Get a grip, sound the alarm, raise the sodding alarm!"

Woosh...rumble rumble...

At the Japan Ciwuben Base, soldiers clad in black rain-soaked garments rush about frantically amidst the eight to nine-meter tall anti-zombie wall. The piercing sound of the alarm bell rings mercilessly in everyone’s ears!

"Damn it! Stop pushing me!"

"Stop shoving... Ah!"

"..."

The base’s survivors scramble towards the underground refuge. Trampling incidents keep happening. In no time, several bodies pile up at the stairwell, but this doesn’t deter the survivors’ desperate bid to escape!

Even the newly added New Human soldiers from the mountain base group begin to flee the scene in panic.

Under the ruined buildings outside the base, an innumerable horde of zombies gathers like a tidal wave. The sight of the zombie heads feels like a crushing weight on everyone’s hearts.

With such a massive zombie attack on the Base, all the self-defense forces should have converged. Yet, less than 300 soldiers could be seen resisting the zombie horde atop the anti-zombie wall.

Spine-chilling screams pierce the sky as the undead descend upon the anti-zombie wall. At the forefront, stands a tall, shriveled Level 3 speedy zombie, dragging a tail longer than itself. It lets out a sharp, rasping sound towards the wall climbing soldiers.

The heavy rain buckets down, blanketing the sky in a fog-like haze, as if hiding some unknown monsters within.

The deafening boom of gunfire resonates. Each shell takes countless zombie lives, but to this massive hoard, it’s but a drop in the ocean.

The Level 3 zombie, evolved with a tail, begins to climb the colossal wall. With curved claws on its limbs, it securely latches onto the wall, resembling an enormous gecko.

Its body twisted, it leaps from side to side, skillfully dodging each bullet. Behind, its tail unfolds like a petal, swiftly seizing a soldier in broad daylight, and swallows him whole.

This Level 3 zombie feeds with its tail!

"Has the backup arrived yet?"

"They have been dispatched, Minister Ikeda!"

"Where are they now? Why haven’t they arrived yet?"

Upon hearing the soldier’s reply, Ikeda Hashira is left gasping for air.

They’ve been dispatched, but where the hell are they now?

"Uh... they... they seem to have just left the barracks."

"What!"

Bang!

In a furious roar, Ikeda Hashira shoots the innocent soldier in front of him dead. He then looks out at the darkness consuming the "ocean" outside, his eyes filled with despair.

"We’re finished, totally finished!"

Ikeda Hashira slumps, his once rigid back bent, as if he has aged several years in this instant.

Swoosh!

He draws his samurai sword, his eyes full of determination, as he surveys the survivors scattering in every direction within the base. Holding the sword in reverse, he prepares to stab it into his stomach.

But just as the sword is about to pierce his flesh, a dark, purplish tail pierces through his skull, and then opens up, layer by layer like bloody petals engulfing Ikeda Hashira.

This terrifying tail belongs to the Level 3 zombie, also known as the Demon Scorpion, one of the most dreadful killers in the Apocalypse!

Its emergence signifies that the first Level 3 zombie has descended upon this world, contradicting the pundits’ stupid claims and delivering a resounding slap to their faces!

...

"If you want to get in, you better take off the mask quickly. Mayor Yan has been waiting for a long time."

Seeing that Tang Ye was reluctant to take off his Red Ghost Mask, a smirk spread across Gu Le’s face, his eyes brimming with skepticism.

Those who wear masks usually do so to avoid being recognised by their enemies. But considering the government building is in a completely secure zone, with no chance of rival forces lurking nearby, it’s generally safe to remove the mask without worrying about assassination.

Besides, Tang Ye is a Level 2 New Human. With such strength and in such a safe place, his hesitation was indeed curious.

"Yeah, buddy, hurry up. All we need is to verify your level, and you can go right in."

"Yeah, come on, what’s the hold-up?"

The group of soldiers who had come to Tang Ye’s courtyard to investigate a murder earlier jeer at his hesitance. To them, a Level 2 New Human poses a serious threat to their status. They can’t wait to send him packing!

Looking at these ignorant soldiers, murderous light flickers in Tang Ye’s eyes. His fists clench as scales start to form under his clothes, though not yet forming an arm blade.

He’s ready to leave. If these damn soldiers dare block him, he’ll make sure they taste his fury!

The surrounding temperature suddenly drops. Gu Le seems to sense Tang Ye’s unusual mood and takes a few steps back, fear creeping into his heart.

The bloody smell of murder emits from Tang Ye’s body, startling the New Humans around him into shutting their mouths.

"So, I have to take it off, huh."

The soldier stammers, feeling Tang Ye’s rage but unaware of the reason behind it. It’s just a request to remove a mask, after all!

He doesn’t know Tang Ye’s New Human level, but given his physique, Tang Ye can only be a New Human. The ordinary soldier, caught off-guard, struggles to form words and instead looks toward the other New Humans, pleading in his eyes.

His life is worthless compared to a New Human. If he were killed, the most that would happen would be a mere verbal warning to the New Human. The soldier feels this trade-off isn’t worth it.

Furthermore, he doesn’t want to die. After all, not everyone is ready to face death.

He hesitates, trying to form words in his mind, but the unfolding situation leaves him no time to rethink. He helplessly speaks up, leaving his fate in the hands of god.

"Um...yes...yes."

"Oh, alright then. Hehe, then I won’t..."

"Wait!"

Just as Tang Ye is about to finish speaking, a tall, slim man in a neat suit steps out from the crowd and interrupts him.

The moment he begins to speak, the group of New Human soldiers around him immediately stand at attention and shout in unison, "Mayor!"

Tang Ye does not recognize this man, but it’s not hard to figure out at this point. This is the Mayor Yan Gu Le had been referring to!

Yan Zhaofeng walks up to Tang Ye, scanning the area with a curious look. Like the other New Humans, he can’t sense any vital energy from Tang Ye!

Although he can’t sense it and isn’t sure of the extent of his powers, as a former college headmaster before the Apocalypse, he still needs to maintain his manners. After all, he invited him here, and whether he can take good care of him or not is another matter. He can take his time assessing his strength!
