Chapter 1369: Chapter 1364: A Big Single Deal
And it’s clear what he was up to when you consider Song Li’s situation!
Someone kicked the door loudly, but being ordinary people, the door merely thudded without budging and attracted the attention of passersby. The men felt embarrassed, their faces flushing as they quickly dispersed pretending nothing had happened.
In this apocalypse, meddling was not a wise choice. Why bother with other people’s business?
Although they thought this, they still felt frustrated.
The noise from inside continued for a while until the shower stopped and it was unclear what Song Li was doing inside. Someone passing by pretended to hear a clicking sound like someone taking photos with a mobile phone.
Soon, Song Li emerged from the room with a knife in hand, cold eyes scanning the area. The men who had crowded around his room door hadn’t left and were looking in his direction from various places.
Song Li smirked coldly at them, his voice chillingly strange as he said, "I’ve locked the door. Those who want to meddle can go ahead. I’ll be leaving soon, so kick hard! If you can kick it down, I want to see which of you can stay alive! If I die, I’ll take a few of you down with me!"
He made the men turn their heads, pretending not to be the ones addressed. Song Li’s attitude made them suspicious and eased some of their previous intentions.
Seeing this, Song Li snorted disdainfully, put his phone in his pocket, and left without hesitation.
He took the last of his Yajin to hail a cab, and after telling the driver his destination, they headed towards the outskirts of Cloud Gorge Base.
The economic restoration area of Cloud Gorge Base, formerly comprised of areas from Xia C14 to Xia C26, had become desolate from the recent war between two major forces and the City of Bright Moon. The previous inhabitants were left homeless in short order, rendering this place a wasteland akin to the ruined cities.
Additionally, the Level 8 New Humans’ battles waged by the two forces against the City of Bright Moon resulted in the destruction of ninety percent of the buildings, causing enormous economic damage. The survivors began moving to other Administrative Areas, though a portion chose to remain.
To restore the area, both forces diverted entrance points here and provided subsidies, designating these thirteen areas as the economic restoration zone. However, this led to a mix of good and bad, with an influx of unsavory individuals, including foreigners and returning refugees.
These penniless people could not survive elsewhere, and as the population swelled, the restoration zone became a refugee hub.
Likewise, the famine caused by food scarcity drove people to madness, making this place a breeding ground for crime and the grey economy.
Here, you could find assassination syndicates and slave trade organizations, including the largest slave trade in China, the Lone Gold Club!
On the old site of the former Clear Water Square, a multitude of large tents were erected, covering the entire plaza. Each tent bore a large circular logo—a symbol of two fingers holding a square object, known to be the Lone Gold Club’s logo.
At the entrance to the plaza, a horde of people lined up, slave masters cracking whips over their chargers, driving slaves of various skin tones into the plaza like sheep. Some desperate families brought their children while others came alone, shuffling forward with the crowd.
Not far away, trucks loaded with building materials entered the plaza, contributing to the construction of towering frameworks.
"Alright, stop crying. You’ll starve with us; being a slave isn’t so bad, at least you’ll be fed..."
"Hurry up! What’s the dawdle?"
"That black guy ran! Catch him!"
"Everyone over there, come here, line up! Count off."
"No! Let me go! I refuse to be a slave!"
"You think it’s up to you?"
"..."
Voices filled the air as Song Muyuan hopped off the cab, glanced at the knife in hand, then at the fleeing driver, and shook his head.
"Really, was that scare necessary?... Heh, I’ve got quite the acting skills."
He chuckled with pride, glanced at the plaza, and didn’t go in straight away. After gathering his emotions, his expression darkened. He took his phone out and squeezed his way through the crowd into the plaza.
"Cutting in line! Go to the back!"
Song Muyuan’s actions annoyed those around him and someone shouted at him. He ignored it and continued to push his way forward.
Scanning the area, Song Muyuan locked onto a nearby Lone Gold Club Member wielding a laser weapon and kept edging closer.
"Hey, buddy." He forced a pleading smile, calling out to the club member.
The member frowned upon hearing the voice and after a moment identified the caller with a weak appearance.
Looking around, driven by curiosity, he swung his weapon to part the crowd and pointed at Song Muyuan, saying, "You calling me?"
"Yeah, yeah! I’ve got a deal for you."
"Then come out."
"Sure."
Song Muyuan gleefully stepped out of the crowd.
"What’s the matter?"
"I’ve got a big deal to make; can you connect me with a big shot inside?"
Hearing this, the club member, who expected some favor from Song Muyuan, looked unamused.
"What kind of big deal? Spill it."
"Ah, it’s really big. I can’t say right now. Plus, showing you might be... dangerous..."
"Dangerous? What danger could I possibly be in? Beat it, don’t bother me."
"Hey, hey, don’t be like that, I’m not lying, man. Just let me cut in line."
The club member pondered, potentially not wanting to miss out, and eventually nodded, warningly adding, "Alright, you can cut in line. But if there’s no big deal, you might not make it out."
"Of course."
"Go on in."
