I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World
Chapter 1358 - 1353: Unwelcome Visitor

Chapter 1358: Chapter 1353: Unwelcome Visitor

Tang Ye had almost confirmed it: the Lan Ou Corpse King would enter the Chinese Continent and turn this place into a second Lan Ou Continent. He himself was a Level 9 zombie; only an existence at his level could understand the need for certain capabilities. If he were the Lan Ou Corpse King, in the absence of a zombie "utopia" cycle facilitated by a zombie queen’s nest, it would be impossible for him to remain active for too long in an area devoid of all living things.

At that time, the only thing he could do was to march into a new place rich in resources! The only problem was that Tang Ye didn’t know whether the Lan Ou Corpse King would choose to fill his own stomach first or to breed living creatures. Currently on the Chinese Continent, besides a few areas dominated by evolved beasts and insectoids, the majority was populated by humans. But considering the human reproduction rate, could the Zombie King wait that long?

Probably not, as the rate of consumption would likely outpace that of food production.

If he didn’t say anything, perhaps those corpse kings would end up devouring all of the evolved and normal living creatures in the world before realizing the method of establishing "utopia" through the queen’s nest. Tang Ye had thought about hiding this method, waiting for every living thing to be consumed, and then, with all the other zombies and Corpse Kings starved to death outside of the Royal Court, he could establish his absolute dominion over this world by massively establishing "utopias."

However, this clearly wasn’t the right course of action. Zombies weren’t human; when they lacked the energy needed to move, they would go into hibernation. This hibernation might ensure they never died until a living creature passed by and woke them up.

Moreover, humanity also needed to take this into consideration. Though now reduced to a population of seven hundred million, what if a large number of Level 9 New Humans emerged and turned the tables on all the zombies? He, the Zombie King, might also not obtain any advantage. After all, while the path of evolution seemed dimly visible at its end, the development of technology would never have an end.

As long as conditions were sufficient, people might discover a method to mass produce Level 9 New Humans. Although it sounded far-fetched, no one dared to be certain about what the future held.

The sound from a neighboring television and the noise of several children playing blended together, adding a busy aura to the air. The content on the TV changed, and the report continued.

"It’s strange that these planes have no passengers. They came here from the distant North America, crossing the vast expanse of ocean. Could this be a cry for help from survivors? Others suggest that it’s an ominous sign..."

At this point, Tang Ye heard a knock at the door from next door, followed by the voices of children.

"Dad, someone’s at the door. Is it Mom?"

As soon as the words were spoken, the door made a cracking noise, as if forcibly broken open, and a man’s voice sounded, "Who’s there? Who are you?"

"Is Xi Qing here?"

"You... how did you find this place?"

...

Today was her rare day off. Scattered vendors at the market were selling red decorations for doors, items likely only bought during this period. Besides these, she had purchased quite a few ingredients and foods her two children enjoyed. As usual, she headed towards the familiar path.

She was oblivious to the daily tragedies within Cloud Gorge Base; to her, it was peaceful here, just like before the Apocalypse. Every day was a repeat of the last; if not for the reflections on the people around her, she might not have been as proud of her perfect family.

She climbed the stairs, growing ever closer to her home without realizing it. Everything here was the same as yesterday, unchanged. Her fingertips just brushed the doorknob when the door swung open from the slight push.

"The lock is broken?"

This question arose in her mind, but in the next second, a pungent smell of blood assaulted her nose, causing her to instinctively cover it. However, when she caught sight of the state of her home, she was left stunned.

The once-white floor was now dyed red with blood. Pieces of flesh were scattered everywhere. In the middle of the living room, a rope hung from the chandelier; tied to it was the lower half of a man’s body. The upper body was gone, only one leg hung there by the rope, suspended in the center of the living room.

The items in her hands clattered to the floor as her complexion turned several shades paler. She knew that man had found her.

Her loving husband had died at his hands first!

"Wenyi? Wen Lang?"

She called out her children’s names as her eyes filled with helplessness.

As she spoke, two children emerged from the adjacent room, hands raised, and with tear-choked voices, they said, "Mommy, save me... I don’t want to die. Dad was killed by him."

"Mommy...behind...behind you."

One child was voicing their fear, while the other warned her with a face filled with terror.

Xi Qing’s body trembled, and the child’s words made the hairs on the back of her neck stand on end. She was afraid to turn around, already feeling a shadow enveloping her, bringing a thick smell of paint mixed with blood.

"Lin... Lin Jie?"

She uttered the dread-inducing name and then slowly turned her head to see a face, eyes staring directly at her with a mad grin.

"Liang Qingbai, I’ve found you, I’ve found you! Hahaha, how will you hide now? How will you hide?"

"I had such a hard time looking for you! Why did you hide? I dreamed of finding you! For so many years! Hahaha! I’ve finally found you, hehehehehaha..."

Lin Jie laughed hysterically; his laugh contained the ultimate rage and a sense of the ridiculous, as if one had gone through great efforts to obtain something only to find that it wasn’t worth the price paid in the process. He had lost too much, and even though he had obtained what he wanted, there was no joy in it, making him feel as if he could never compensate for what he had lost, no matter how he used what he had gained.

He danced around, like a robot dancer performing earnestly on a stage without an audience, his laughter drawing the puzzled attention of the neighbors, who began to step out of their rooms. However, none came closer or asked any questions; after having experienced too many dangers in the post-apocalyptic world, they seemed to realize something significant had happened and they started packing up, preparing to leave the place.
