Chapter 1272: Chapter 127 "Ordinary" Passerby
When the old man blurted out these words, the driver finally asked cautiously, "Old man, what did you just say?"
"It has taken me so long to return here; I can’t help but feel a bit excited. Oh right, do you see ’Sacred Summit’? That’s where the Royal Court is. I can’t confirm the person you’re looking for will definitely be there, but if you head north, from the Erqis River all the way to the far northern regions, the cities where living people can safely reside—that’s the Royal Court. If they’re not there, then the person you’re looking for can’t be in the north. Perhaps you should head to the north; if that person is in the north, it would be impossible for them to survive outside. The blasphemers would ensure they couldn’t live safely."
Su Sigui nodded in agreement. The blasphemers the old man referred to were those zombies—because in their view, zombies defied the will of Changsheng Tian and were therefore blasphemers.
As for the blasphemers, Su Sigui and the others only had a rough understanding, but it was a matter of their beliefs. What the man they called Heavenly Khan was thinking, they had no idea.
Everyone nodded after hearing this, and their gazes were drawn to an imposing rock formation that seemed not far from them. They accelerated.
Whether that was their intended destination or not, they didn’t know. All they knew was that they would find out whether that was the so-called Northern Empire once they reached it. But time was not on their side and all they could do was pray to nonexistent deities that the Royal Court was indeed the Northern Empire they were seeking.
It was the final moment and the thought alone made everyone’s heart race.
Time ticked away, neither fast nor slow, yet the city perched atop the huge rock seemed so distant that, no matter how much time passed, the rock hardly appeared any closer.
It might be a case of "watching the pot never boils," perhaps?
However, when they reached the grasslands, they also saw many people from the Royal Court, and everyone they saw seemed to recognize the old man in the co-pilot’s seat as if he were someone famous there.
"Just keep heading towards the Sacred Summit; in this open land, that’s the pure land given to us by Heavenly Khan for a carefree life. As long as we see it, we will find our way home, regardless of night or day."
The old man spoke to himself with a tone that was filled with devout reverence for what he believed.
The others glanced at the old man and were used to him saying strange things from time to time. They didn’t pay it much mind. As the vehicle entered a certain area, they saw more and more people, and the vehicle’s speed slowed down. The driver became careful; in Cloud Gorge Base, whether he was driving or someone else was driving, they could speed without worry—even if they hit and killed a few people, there would be no repercussions. After all, if it was merely lower-ranking new humans or ordinary people, they wouldn’t dare cause trouble, especially with Su Sigui present. But in this Royal Court, despite a desire to speed up, moving at a snail’s pace was frustrating. Yet with the old man’s prior words, they weren’t eager to cause any trouble in this place.
Through the windshield, Su Sigui and the others saw a middle-aged man walking their way. Although his features were mature, there was no sign of the worries that should afflict his age on his brow. Instead, there was a childlike, innocent smile.
He sauntered towards them with a grin, looking like the ’fools’ people often talked about. In the second they saw him, the man seemed to have had a quick chat with a woman who appeared to be scolding him, but in an instant, as if she had reminded him of something, she departed.
The man’s actions were even more baffling; he held a stick in his hand and as he walked forward, the tip of the stick scraped the ground, occasionally hitting pits and making a "tap tap tap" sound. Amidst these sounds, one could hear the man’s happy voice, completely unlike the expression one would expect from a man his age.
The people in the car had already pegged him as a fool, as could be surmised from the scolding tone of the woman who had just spoken to him.
As the car approached slowly, the man saw the car coming and quickly stepped aside. However, his attention remained on the stick in his hand, showing no interest in his surroundings. But the next moment, when he saw the old man in the passenger seat, he exclaimed in surprise, "Uncle Tagu! What brings you here? Najia has already prepared dinner. We weren’t expecting you, I didn’t think Uncle Tagu would arrive so many days early."
The man’s smile was as innocent as a child’s, completely out of place on a middle-aged person, and his facial expressions seemed discordant.
What was more unexpected was that the man didn’t speak in the old man’s language, that is, Uncle Tagu’s language, but in fluent Chinese. If Su Sigui and the others weren’t fully aware that they had left China, they could have mistaken themselves for still being within China, overhearing others chatting in Chinese.
"It seems that Chinese is the main language spoken here," Su Sigui reflected thoughtfully. She hadn’t noticed it earlier, but after seeing this man, she realized that the majority of the people who had greeted the old man before spoke mostly in Chinese.
"We did indeed arrive early; we didn’t inform you ahead of time. Najia doesn’t need to make dinner too extravagant; this old man can eat anything."
"Then I’ll go tell Sister Najia now, Uncle Tagu."
"No need, Kerting, I’m not going to head back straight away once I get to the Royal Court," Uncle Tagu said with a wave of his hand, speaking kindly to the middle-aged man.
Su Sigui looked at the man, who then said, "Oh, that means I can still play for a bit longer. I’m going to go find Tulala and the others to play soon!"
The old man watched him and sighed silently, perhaps due to the man’s abnormal behavior. After all, what’s going on with a man in his forties acting like a child and playing with kids all day? But such behavior wasn’t so unusual in the Royal Court; there were many others like Kerting.
Su Sigui’s gaze swept back and forth between Tagu and Kerting, just in time to hear Kerting say, "See you, Uncle Tagu, I’ll be going now."
But in that moment, as Kerting opened his mouth to speak, Su Sigui seemed to see something unbelievable and her pupils suddenly dilated!
"Go on then, just be careful. Don’t hurt the kids," Tagu replied—it sounded like an odd thing to say.
Inside the car, apart from Su Sigui, no one seemed to notice anything amiss about the middle-aged man. They simply regarded him as an ordinary passerby.
