Chapter 1217: Chapter 112: Zombies Appearing in the Prison

Xiao Hu’s response confirmed Ruan Chao’en’s suspicions. He glanced at Huang Quanjiu, who did not return his gaze but instead looked threateningly at Xiao Hu.

All of this was indeed arranged by Huang Quanjiu. The Eighth Army Corps was directly restricted by the Peace Party Headquarters, and many things were out of their hands, while the Second Army Corps could easily deal with Ruan Chao’en in Prison. Here, rather than saying Huang Quanjiu was imprisoned, it was more accurate to say he came to gloat at Ruan Chao’en.

He originally thought of starving him for a few days then letting him beg for mercy before generously ending this farce. Certainly, Huang Quanjiu, a proud man, would never humble himself before Ruan Chao’en to smooth things over. This outcome suited him, although it did create a rift between the two, but at least things were settled.

He could give Ruan Chao’en a bit of food when he was unbearably hungry, but that didn’t mean he wanted others to bring him meals.

Therefore, Xiao Hu’s arrival and actions were highly irritating to Huang Quanjiu. As Xiao Hu stepped to leave, Huang Quanjiu ominously said from behind, "Leaving your Eighth Army Corps’ designated zone is no trivial matter. I will report this to the enforcement department exactly as it happened. Kid, brace yourself."

With that statement from Huang Quanjiu, Xiao Hu stiffened, but fortunately, Ruan Chao’en quickly said, "Don’t worry. After you leave, if anyone bothers you, just drop my name. If anyone dares to trouble you, I’ll take care of them when I get out! Worst comes to worst, back into Prison I go!"

Xiao Hu turned, his face full of gratitude, "Thank you, sir."

"Alright, get out now."

"Understood!"

With Ruan Chao’en’s promise, Xiao Hu felt relieved, and his steps quickened as he headed towards the exit of Prison.

The remaining two exchanged glances, then coldly snorted and turned their heads away from each other. However, this time, Ruan Chao’en looked smug while Huang Quanjiu’s expression was as unpleasant as if he had swallowed a fly, harboring some animosity toward Xiao Hu.

After eating the meal Xiao Hu brought, Ruan Chao’en’s complexion greatly improved. Lying on the iron plank bed, legs crossed, he appeared completely relaxed. However, several hours passed and neither felt the guards outside Prison return. Initially, they thought the guards were merely assembling and found nothing odd, but soon, they both felt something was amiss. It was indeed strange that no guards were stationed outside since they were the only two incarcerated there.

While those two soldiers might leave briefly, the Peace Party rules do not allow both to leave simultaneously. If they took too long to return to their posts and someone noticed, that would be a grave matter, and neither of them believed those soldiers had such courage.

At that moment, Ruan Chao’en suddenly stood up from the iron plank bed. He glanced at Huang Quanjiu, who looked normal and not at all perturbed, and then sat down again. However, Ruan Chao’en seemed very uneasy, his eyes occasionally darting to Huang Quanjiu and then to the entrance of the Prison, visibly restless.

Indeed, Ruan Chao’en did not understand what was happening to him, feeling that something was about to occur; he had a terrible premonition—this was a sixth sense of a Level 6 New Human, which he felt, but Huang Quanjiu apparently did not.

The dim light illuminated Ruan Chao’en’s entire body, his eyes staring into the darkness beyond the light. From some point, he sensed a profoundly eerie presence there.

Suddenly, Ruan Chao’en frowned deeply, sniffed vigorously, and a faint stench of decay filled his nostrils. Before he could react, Huang Quanjiu leaped from the iron plank bed, his gaze fixed on the darkness beyond the light.

His movement was sudden, causing the iron bunk bed to make a creaking sound.

"What’s wrong?" Ruan Chao’en asked. If he had been alone in the prison, he might have been slightly afraid, but having Huang Quanjiu there too, another Level 6 New Human Stronghouse, greatly alleviated his fear.

Huang Quanjiu didn’t respond to Ruan Chao’en’s question. Instead, he stared into the darkness ahead, seemingly seeing something in the blackness but unsure of it. Ruan Chao’en leaned forward to look but saw nothing unusual; yet, an uneasy feeling inside him kept telling him that things were not that simple.

Soon, Ruan Chao’en thought of something.

The two prison guards who had left for a meal hadn’t returned, and now, both of them felt that something was off. Could something be targeting them?

Huang Quanjiu remained silent, and Ruan Chao’en also closed his mouth. Both their gazes stayed fixed on the seemingly endless darkness.

About a minute or two passed, and the tension in the air grew thicker. It was then that Huang Quanjiu suddenly shouted, "No, it’s above!"

As he yelled, a crack suddenly appeared on the ceiling between the two cells. The crack quickly spread outward and, with a loud cracking sound, something broke through the ceiling, sending chunks of cement and stone down as a two-meter wide hole emerged, revealing a sinister figure falling from above!

"It’s a zombie!"

The figure was unmistakably non-human. Hunched over with numerous bone spikes protruding from its back, these spikes wriggled like snakes. Around two meters long, touching the ground with its limbs, the intense smell of rot emanating from it confirmed this creature’s type!

"Has a zombie gotten in?"

Ruan Chao’en was still in disbelief. This was the United District. Although sometimes soldiers used zombies for tasks, they were generally kept in specific places and not allowed to roam the streets.

But now, what was the situation with this zombie?

He~

The zombie before them let out a chilling hiss, then abruptly turned its head to look at Ruan Chao’en. He caught sight of the zombie’s face— it was wrinkled like a chrysanthemum, its ears on either side twisted to extremes, almost forming small lumps of flesh. The other facial features were indistinguishable, as if someone had sewn a pigskin onto a face and then soaked it in brine for a day or two, creating wrinkles like tiger skin chicken feet!

"F*ck!"

Even Ruan Chao’en, a Level 6 New Human, was startled by the zombie. Quickly, the bone whips on the zombie’s back started wriggling, grabbing onto the two bars in front of the cell and pulling with force, twisting the iron bars as if they were made of wire!
