I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World -
Chapter 1186 - 1181: Generous Gesture
Chapter 1186: Chapter 1181: Generous Gesture
The population of Cloud Gorge Base is enormous, totaling well over ten million. It doesn’t just gather a massive number of Chinese people but has also taken in survivors from around the world.
And such a vast population consumes an astronomical amount of food every year!
To supply food to this enormous population, not to mention all, but even the majority, the quantity of food required is definitely not small. More importantly, some of the new humans among them need several times the amount of food that ordinary people do to maintain the vitality of their super cells.
Such a rate of food consumption naturally requires a vast area for planting. Within Cloud Gorge Base, the agricultural area used for planting is extremely large – so large, in fact, that the super Sanctuary City, which can be compared to a small province and is situated within Cloud Gorge Base, has its agricultural planting area covering more than one-third of its territory!
After the zombie horde invaded the agricultural zone, what they saw beyond the barrier was an endless sea of wheat!
During winter, falling snow melted upon contact with the transparent dome, turning into water and flowing incessantly down its surface. Despite the heavy snowfall, the dome that covered the entire agricultural planting area didn’t become obscured, allowing a view of the thick layer of dark clouds in the sky above.
Looking across the boundless wheat fields, one could see countless lights standing tall and straight.
Those weren’t street lights but illuminators providing light and warmth to enable photosynthesis for the crops.
The moment the protective shield shattered, hordes of zombies surged in through the Anti-Zombie Wall Gate opened by the soldiers!
The immense zombie tide spread out everywhere, like a flood once inside the agricultural zone of Cloud Gorge Base.
Even from several kilometers away, as soon as the zombies entered, their bloodthirsty gazes turned towards the direction the soldiers were retreating!
Roar!
A deafening chorus of roars erupted from the zombies.
"Close the gate!"
As the last group of soldiers entered the second Anti-Zombie Wall, the very next second, a blue pillar of light shot up from the center of Cloud Gorge Base, piercing the sky. People looked up in shock – the blue beam, which seemed to have pierced the heavens, was like a divine miracle, unforgettable to all who saw it.
Song Muyuan was momentarily stunned, a question arising in his mind.
"What is this?"
But soon, Song Muyuan knew exactly what it was.
After about four or five seconds from when the pillar of light entered the clouds, it suddenly dispersed, like a banana split apart by a sharp round cutter into countless thin rays of light. These rays of light draped downward in all directions, with numerous points of light starting to shine along the connection points within the second Anti-Zombie Wall’s inner wall. The fine tubes of light, split from the pillar that had shot out from the center of Cloud Gorge Base, locked firmly onto these points of light!
Thus, Cloud Gorge Base, starting from the industrial area, became like a giant prison, enclosed within countless descending blue rays of light. Then, these rays of light continued to disperse, the color blue began to fade, the countless blue lights grew dim and thin, interconnecting to form a membrane, sealing the entirety of Cloud Gorge Base tightly within.
"So it’s just another protective shield, huh?" Song Muyuan felt a tinge of disappointment. He had thought it was some sort of lethal weapon. It turned out to be merely the process of opening the protective shield.
As for the horde of zombies he had brought, Song Muyuan had no idea how many had died because the size of the zombie horde was simply too vast. Even with the bodies of zombies piled up outside, there seemed to be no slight reduction in their numbers within the horde.
It remained just as massive, just as shocking.
"What’s the use?" Shaking his head, Song Muyuan waved his hand, ordering all the zombies to enter Cloud Gorge Base.
The zombies roared like madmen as they stepped closer to the wheat fields! Like a tidal wave, they aimed to shatter the fragile stems of wheat in an instant!
On the other side, all the soldiers had entered within the Anti-Zombie Wall, and the wide-open iron gate closed with a loud "bang". The second Anti-Zombie Wall was also lined with soldiers.
Atop the majestic wall, rows of long-range cannons rotated, targeting the zombies. The cold light emanating from the muzzles was soul-capturing.
"Fire!" The highest commander saw it was about time, waiting for the zombies to get closer to the farmland, knowing that opening fire then would cause considerable damage, so he bellowed out the order.
With the commander’s voice, all the soldiers roared in unison, full of vigor. They were soldiers who had just been rotated in, rested and ready, just for this moment to deal with a horde of four million zombies!
The soldiers’ voices filled with a deadly intent rose up. The next second, laser fires cascaded down like waterfalls. Zombies fell in droves, their heads exploding from the powerful lasers. For a moment, the vast horde of zombies was blocked in front of the first Anti-Zombie Wall Gate.
Some zombies tried to break through the Anti-Zombie Wall, but when they punched, they only knocked off a piece of the hard exterior. Then, a dragon of zombies roared, charging forward and smashing a huge pit in the Anti-Zombie Wall, but without completely breaking through it.
Seeing this scene, Song Muyuan’s eyes narrowed.
"What a grand gesture this is!"
Ordinary Anti-Zombie Walls were constructed from rebar and concrete from before the Apocalypse. Their purpose was to block a large number of zombies and provide an excellent vantage point for the soldiers. After all, the main role of an Anti-Zombie Wall was simply to block the horde, which was normally comprised of low-level zombies.
There’s a saying, "Even ants can bite an elephant to death". No matter how weak those ordinary and Level 2 Zombies were, their killing ability was extremely formidable. Even a Level 6 Powerhouse, if trapped in a crowd of zombies without ample experience, would find it hard to escape as long as the zombie horde persisted.
In severe cases, one could be bitten to death by the zombie crowd or torn to pieces!
These Anti-Zombie Walls only really worked against Level 3 zombies or below. Once faced with Level 4 zombies or higher, the walls could easily be torn down by hand, and to a Level 6 zombie, such walls were like tofu dregs, falling apart at a touch!
Naturally, it was possible to upgrade the Anti-Zombie Walls, but constructing a single Anti-Zombie Wall was already an enormous task. Let alone to fully upgrade its defensive capabilities, which would be extremely costly in manpower and financial resources. The poorer survivor bases couldn’t even dare to think about it, only the superpowers would upgrade Anti-Zombie Walls to hold off higher-level zombies.
But the fact that a dragon of zombies hadn’t broken through the Anti-Zombie Wall of Cloud Gorge Base even with a full-force collision was what surprised Song Muyuan.
"These crafty bastards are quite good."
In light of this, Song Muyuan simply smiled. Without the soldiers on the first line of defense to block them, wouldn’t entering the agricultural district be a piece of cake?
