Chapter 1167: Chapter 1162: Why Report Numbers for No Reason
After making that gesture to Song Muyuan, the man known as Ci Lin turned his head back. If there had been any normal person present, they would have seen that the neck of this man called Ci Lin was crawling with small, fine scales. His hair wasn’t distinct strands but joined together into a mass, resembling some kind of external organ.
On both sides of his neck were two lines which resembled scars left by healed-over splits more than anything else.
This Ci Lin, to be exact, wasn’t human, but something Xu Haishui had brought back when he suspected a Level 6 zombie within the horde that was moving towards the United District; and Ci Lin was that zombie, resembling an ancient general clad in armor.
As for its intelligence, it couldn’t really compare to that of a true Level 6 zombie. It was because of its high level that its intelligence had seemed to increase, making its actions resemble those of intelligent zombies. It also served as Song Muyuan’s bodyguard when he traveled to Dongsheng Co-management.
Song Muyuan had given it such a name for convenience’s sake.
It was called Ci Lin because the tips of the scales on its body were quite sharp. Once, when Song Muyuan was attacked by residents of Dongsheng Co-management, he moved closer to Ci Lin to ensure his safety, and promptly, his skin was easily pierced by its scales, thus the name was born.
After Ci Lin left, Song Muyuan took a dagger from the table, pulled off its sheath, and tossed it aside carelessly. He approached the unconscious troublemaker, traced some lines above the limbs, and soon, fresh blood flowed in four streams onto the clean ground.
Song Muyuan stood up, glanced at the person, tossed the dagger on the nearby table, and then kicked him.
"Hey, wake up!"
Although Song Muyuan was not very strong, as a Level 6 zombie, the force of his kicks was enough to wake the man up through the pain.
"He’s awake."
"Huh?" After kicking several times and receiving no response, Song Muyuan’s expression grew puzzled.
"Dead?" he muttered, then bent down to sniff.
"Not dead, huh?"
After several more kicks, the man shook his head but still didn’t open his eyes.
"Wake up quickly."
"Hey, your mom’s calling you home for dinner."
Several unreserved kicks later, the continued force eventually caused the man lying on the ground to slowly open his eyes.
He might have been so disoriented by Ci Lin’s slap from the previous fight that he could not figure out where he was when he woke up.
As his blurred vision gradually sharpened and some memories returned to normal, he finally remembered where he was. But the almost inhumanly pale face of the man before him puzzled him. He didn’t know who Song Muyuan was, and he couldn’t sense any strong New Human blood energy from him, not even blood energy. He couldn’t help but sneer.
It seemed like this strange person was the only one around him, and he looked weak – wasn’t this the perfect time to run away?
"Who are you?"
"Who am I? Shouldn’t you have found out before coming here?"
"Hmm?" On hearing Song Muyuan, the man frowned and guessed Song Muyuan’s identity in his mind.
"What is your name?" Song Muyuan asked, not giving him too much time to think.
Perhaps because he had just woken up from unconsciousness, his brain wasn’t fully operational. As soon as Song Muyuan asked, he subconsciously answered, "Wan Gaoxiong."
Once he’d answered, Wan Gaoxiong then asked in return, "And who are you?"
"Well, since you didn’t even know who I am, let me introduce myself. I’m the General Commander of the Peace Party branch of the United District, Song Muyuan."
"You’re Song Muyuan?" Hearing these three words, Wan Gaoxiong was taken aback. Their mission hadn’t mentioned anything about Song Muyuan, so he wasn’t interested in who the General Commander of the United District branch was.
Because of his disinterest, he didn’t know much about Song Muyuan, only that he was a Level 5 New Human who had been so frightened by a few local Level 5 New Humans upon arriving at Dongsheng Co-management that he had hidden behind a bodyguard.
However, in his impression, to be the General Commander of the branch of such a superpower as the United District, one should at least be a strong Level 6 New Human.
But this Song Muyuan before him, Wan Gaoxiong couldn’t see how strong the man actually could be. He looked like the kind of weakling who stayed home to watch series all day, and Wan Gaoxiong couldn’t figure out why Li Henian, the tyrant of South China, would appoint such a person as the General Commander of a branch of the United District.
Thinking this over, Wan Gaoxiong’s expression grew increasingly strange as a hint of murderous intent flashed in his eyes. The task assigned at Cloud Gorge Base wasn’t hard; in fact, compared to the missions he had received before, this one was extremely easy.
Even though it was easy, he couldn’t help thinking about the huge merit he would gain if he accidentally killed the General Commander of the United District branch here.
The more he thought, the more excited Wan Gaoxiong became. Looking at Song Muyuan, he asked, "Are you really Song Muyuan?"
"Of course," Song Muyuan confirmed promptly, nodding and then showing Wan Gaoxiong the nameplate at his waist, which clearly had the name "Song Muyuan" engraved on it.
"Hahaha~" After Song Muyuan did that, Wan Gaoxiong burst into laughter, filled with joy. Then, he coldly said to Song Muyuan, "Well then, you better kneel down right now, I might leave you a whole corpse."
Wan Gaoxiong glanced around to make sure that the person he had just met wasn’t in the room before he felt relieved.
Startled, Song Muyuan asked blankly, "Huh? Why?"
Wan Gaoxiong didn’t answer. He just casually began counting.
"One!"
"Uh?"
"Two!"
"No, seriously, did the beating damage your brain? What are you counting for?" Song Muyuan, clueless, asked with a puzzled face.
Wan Gaoxiong kept counting, ignoring Song Muyuan.
"Three!"
"Four!"
"Just say what you want!"
When he reached the count of six, Wan Gaoxiong glanced at Song Muyuan, and seeing his bewildered eyes, frowned.
"You’re... are you an idiot?" Wan Gaoxiong started to question his life. He couldn’t understand how someone like Song Muyuan had survived to this day; was there some connection with Li Henian, the tyrant of South China?
"It seems you wish to die painfully. No worries, I’ll accommodate you!"
Stopping at the count of six, Wan Gaoxiong coldly spoke to Song Muyuan and then began to move.
