I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World
Chapter 1142 - 1138: Warning Letter

Chapter 1142: Chapter 1138: Warning Letter

Miao Luo stood up and opened the meal tray, revealing a selection of carefully prepared foods that would whet anyone’s appetite, but only if they were human.

Song Muyuan, a zombie, had no desire for the food before him, feeling as if he was looking at a pile of plastic toy models. Could those plastic toys be edible for humans?

The answer, of course, was a firm no!

Miao Luo, with his back to the box room door, placed the dishes from the meal tray on the center of the table. Meanwhile, the tall maidservant, who had gone out, was about to close the door when she noticed something protruding from the pocket of Miao Luo’s clothes, prompting a puzzled expression to spread across her face.

"Mr. Mayor," she called out.

Miao Luo turned around in confusion and asked, "What is it?"

"There’s something in your clothes there."

"Where?" Miao Luo looked down but didn’t see anything, when the maidservant quickly stepped forward and pulled something hanging from his clothes. On closer inspection, it was a bone spur, likely an attack organ from a high-level zombie. It had been stuck into the fabric of Miao Luo’s clothes, and there was also a folded piece of paper stuck on the bone spur.

Bloodstains, long since dried, clung to the bone spur, still causing a primeval unease in Miao Luo’s human heart—it seemed like a warning.

"What is this?" Upon seeing the paper, Miao Luo’s heart skipped a beat, and an ominous feeling rose within him.

He unfolded the paper, which contained only a brief message.

"If you want to remain the unchallenged ruler of Dongsheng Co-management during this period, then take out that guy you brought back with you. We will give you one chance—Yunxia Base Hidden Dragon Society."

"It’s from the Hidden Dragon Society." Miao Luo frowned, not concealing the information from Song Muyuan as he spoke up.

To be honest, Miao Luo felt a chill; when had this bone spur, bearing a warning message, been inserted into his clothes?

Had the assailant wanted to kill him at that moment, Miao Luo might already be dead in United District by now.

Thinking this, Miao Luo began to sweat on his forehead, his heart filled with dread. It seemed that his extended period of tranquility had dulled his sense of danger...

To stealthily plant a bone spur onto his clothes without him noticing, the other party had to be at least a Level 6 New Human.

"What’s that?" Song Muyuan stepped forward upon hearing Miao Luo, took the warning letter, and examined it, his brows furrowing as well.

"Who did this?" he asked.

"I don’t know." Miao Luo shook his head, but quickly added, "Right, it must have been when we were squeezing through the crowd."

Miao Luo suddenly remembered, after his conversation with Xu Haishui ended, he had been struggling through the crowd; so many had brushed past him. The best time to insert the bloody bone spur into his clothes would have been in that chaos.

"To stick this thing into your clothes like this, they must be at least a Level 6 New Human, but could a Level 7 New Human have done it? Would they dare to follow?"

"No, they wouldn’t dare. If they had the audacity to follow and we discovered them, they wouldn’t escape," affirmed Miao Luo, shaking his head.

"This..." Song Muyuan let out a sigh of relief. It was good they hadn’t followed. Although he was a Level 6 zombie, he couldn’t fight off a Level 5 creature, let alone Level 6 New Humans. Moreover, they were currently in the sky, without a single zombie within his control. If a Level 6 Powerhouse were to suddenly attack, his survival would depend entirely on Miao Luo.

In the apocalypse, trusting one’s life to others was foolish.

He could only be grateful that the adversary hadn’t dared to follow them to Dongsheng Co-management.

Still, as he looked at the paper, only one word flashed through his mind.

Spy!

He had read a few books compiled by humans. Although he couldn’t recognise the characters, as a member of the political assembly of the Peace Party, his high status meant people were willing to tell him stories for a few Yajin coins, including tales of schemes, such as ancient spies sent to gather intelligence from enemy territories.

If not for a spy, how would anyone know that Miao Luo had already made a deal with Xu Haishui?

Miao Luo looked at the paper in silence for a moment before turning to Song Muyuan with an apologetic expression, "Brother Song, I hope you’re prepared. We might face pressure from the Hidden Dragon Society’s vanguard soon after we arrive at Dongsheng Co-management."

"Don’t worry, I’ll use all of Dongsheng Co-management’s resources to ensure your safety, but I hope you inform the upper echelons of the Peace Party quickly, so they can be ready at all times."

Song Muyuan shook his head, unabashedly unworried and simply said, "It’s alright, our leader will know about it shortly."

"Huh?" Miao Luo pondered over Song Muyuan’s words, finding them oddly peculiar. What did he mean by knowing so soon?

Because of his occupation before the Apocalypse, Miao Luo’s mind didn’t go to the literal meaning of the words but delved deeper, leaving him even more puzzled.

Meanwhile, Bai Huipeng and Xu Changchi ran over from afar, nodding to Tang Ye and Ah Fu when they arrived in front of them.

"Leader, the deployment of our assets there is almost complete. Now it’s just the matter of banishing those who were disqualified."

"Good, try to be faster. I’ll give you one hour and make sure no one sees you," Tang Ye responded with a nod then, in front of Bai Huipeng, raised his hand and pointed a finger in a specific direction. His actions confused Bai Huipeng and Xu Changchi who had just arrived and were unaware of the situation. However, when they thought Tang Ye’s intent couldn’t be clearer, a message clicked in their minds.

They looked up, and so did Ah Fu, exchanging glances before Tang Ye spoke directly to Bai Huipeng and Xu Changchi, "There’s an insider watching us, coming from Cloud Gorge Base."

Bai Huipeng and Xu Changchi were initially startled but quickly caught on, experiencing a surge of astonishment.

This was too far-fetched.

So there was indeed such a thing as a spy.

People really would do anything for their own gain. Bai Huipeng, though now a United District General, had merely been a hoodlum wandering the streets before the Apocalypse, occasionally bullying schoolchildren. While aware of the concept of spies from TV, movies, and novels, such things had always seemed distant and foreign to him. Encountering it in person was a truly strange feeling.
