Chapter 1118: Chapter 1115: The Disappearing Flying Python
Time had passed quickly. Amid the singing, Xiao Hu gradually woke from his half-asleep, half-awake state and looked at the time—it was already past three in the morning.
"It’s about time." He muttered to himself internally and got out of bed. Since it was late at night and it was pitch dark, he could not see the condition of his roommates in other beds, but he assumed they were all asleep.
He cautiously put on his shoes and tiptoed out the door, then carefully closed it behind him.
As he completely stepped out, the sensor light outside came on, startling Xiao Hu immediately!
Outside, the roommates who were supposed to be sound asleep in their beds were all out here, their cigarette butts flickering in front of them.
"You guys, what are you doing here?" Xiao Hu’s face was stupefied, his eyes filled with panic.
Old Cao, who was closest to him, fiercely threw his smoked-out cigarette butt on the ground. After finishing that cigarette, Old Cao, for some reason, reminisced about the cigarettes he smoked before the Apocalypse.
He approached Xiao Hu. Under the light, his face was expressionless.
"Xiao Hu, Black Three-Head told us that you took the weapon, right?"
"I..."
"No need to explain, we all know it was you. You wanted to take the Flying Python to seek revenge for Brother Ding. We understand, but..." Mid-sentence, Old Cao suddenly slammed Xiao Hu hard against the wall.
"Do you f*cking realize that you’re only going to get yourself killed by doing this? And you’ll drag us down too!"
"I..." Xiao Hu didn’t know what to say, his eyes complex, filled with gratitude and helplessness, and a deep hatred towards someone!
"Come on, get inside. No matter where you’ve hidden the Flying Python, you must find it by tomorrow and give it back to me. I’ll find someone to return it."
Old Cao’s hand pressed down hard on Xiao Hu’s shoulder, immobilizing him. He struggled desperately but, despite being a Level 2 New Human, he could only manage to wear away most of the putty on the wall behind him, yet he couldn’t break free from Old Cao’s grip.
After this continued for a while, having no choice, Xiao Hu could only agree. So, he followed Old Cao and the others back into the dormitory. Just as one of them was about to turn on the light, someone quickly stopped him.
"Don’t turn on the lights."
"Okay."
In the darkness, everyone gradually got used to the environment. Once they could see each other’s outlines, they each found a spot to sit down.
"Xiao Hu, tell us where you put the Flying Python today."
Xiao Hu thought about it, seemingly believing that it was okay as long as the others could forgive him. He hesitated for a few seconds and then said, "It’s in the bushes by the yellow house on East A Street."
"Is it really there?"
"Yeah."
"You’re not lying to us?"
"No," Xiao Hu shook his head, and as he did, the others turned and exchanged glances. Suddenly, they burst into action and one kicked Xiao Hu in the abdomen. The immense force sent him flying onto the bed, retching with his mouth opening and closing, his face contorted in agony.
Before he could recover, Wang Dabiao grabbed him by the collar and yanked him up.
"What the hell are you thinking, man? Do you realize the trouble you’d be in today if we hadn’t stopped you? Do you get that not only would you be screwed, but so would we all?"
"And look, Brother Ding is already dead. I believe he wouldn’t want us to die too. What I mean is, we’re not going to let this go. One day, I’ll make those guys from The Third Army pay."
"But I... I just feel so bad!"
At some point, tears had already started streaming down Xiao Hu’s face, but Wang Dabiao quickly smacked them away.
"What are you crying for? Who isn’t hurt by Brother Ding’s death? I know you’re worried. From today on, rest assured, we brothers will stick together like before. You don’t have to feel bad. Avenging Brother Ding will come in time, but not now."
Upon hearing this, Xiao Hu choked up again. However, the others quickly laughed, "Crying your eyes out? You sound like a little girl. Might as well sell you to a brothel."
Crying, an incredibly ugly expression crossed Xiao Hu’s face, but Wang Dabiao patted his shoulder, signaling him to not dwell on it.
"Alright, let’s sleep. Oh, and Old Cao, go over to that yellow house on East A Street, and get back the flying snake Xiao Hu took. I’ll hand it over to the Property Management Department tomorrow."
"Yes!" Old Cao nodded, didn’t object. Just as he was about to leave, Wang Dabiao stopped him.
"Hey, use the window. It wouldn’t look good if the dorm manager saw you leaving. Why else turn on the light?"
"Oh, right then." Old Cao turned, opened the window, and jumped out, being a Level 3 New Human, such a height posed no problem for him.
"Alright, let’s sleep. We’ll talk everything over once Old Cao is back tomorrow."
At Wang Dabiao’s call, everyone went back to their beds, pulled the covers over themselves, and prepared to sleep, except for Xiao Hu, who seemed lost in heavy thoughts.
Elsewhere, Old Cao, evading patrols of night guards, reached East A Street where Xiao Hu had mentioned, half an hour later, spotting the dark yellow house at first glance.
This East A Street was a familiar path for them, and upon Xiao Hu’s mention, everyone immediately knew the place.
The street was deserted, and Old Cao no longer needed to hide. This area, belonging to the Central United District, was a residential zone. Normally, no incidents occurred here, and since the residents were mostly New Humans, no one dared cause trouble at night, hence, there were no guards around.
He strutted down the street and soon reached the yellow house, surrounded by two ten-meter-long green belts, established before the Apocalypse. After the Apocalypse, once the United District was founded, few bothered to maintain them.
These green belts, often crossed as a shortcut, had sparse vegetation instead of thick growth.
Scanning the area, it was hard to find spots where objects could be concealed without attracting attention. Old Cao walked down the first green belt, checked a few lush areas, but found nothing hidden. He then went over to the second green belt, still finding no trace of the laser weapon, ’flying snake’, that Xiao Hu had hidden.
"Eh, where is it?"
After a moment of confusion, Old Cao carefully searched both green belts again but still found nothing.
"Maybe it’s not in the bushes." He considered that perhaps Xiao Hu hadn’t hidden it in the bushes, but just around them.
