Chapter 1074: Chapter 1070: Violent Acceleration
A series of disappearances reported by the sergeant left Wei Ba and his companion silent for a long while, during which Tang Ye and other officers did not utter a word.
About half a minute later, Wei Ba raised his head, looked at Tang Ye, and respectfully said, "Marshal, I am willing to take you to our sanctuary, but you have to promise me that if we don’t find your sister there, you won’t slaughter our residents."
Tang Ye nodded his head, "Don’t worry, I’m not a bloodthirsty person."
"Since the Marshal says so, then I feel relieved," said Wei Ba with a helpless look on his face. How could he know what the Marshal of the United District was really thinking? What if he was just making empty promises? But what could he do? In the presence of such a powerful figure, he had no right to refuse.
"Come aboard," Tang Ye opened the car door.
Wei Ba nodded, climbing into the vehicle, while the sanctuary soldier behind him was about to follow when Tang Ye lifted his hand and pointed at him, saying, "He doesn’t need to go."
"Why?" Wei Ba asked, puzzled.
However, Tang Ye did not answer him. Instead, he looked at the other soldiers and said, "You don’t need to follow either. If Lin Jie is truly in the sanctuary, going there would mean sending you to your death. Go notify Ah Fu and have this man bring him over." Tang Ye pointed at another sanctuary soldier.
The soldiers nodded their heads and said in unison, "Yes."
They didn’t insist on following because they all knew that just the devastation caused by a fight among Level 6 Powerhouses was enough to claim their lives, let alone Level 7. If Level 7 New Humans were to fight, they would be mere mortals, easily obliterated by the slightest residual power.
"What’s your name?" Tang Ye then looked at Wei Ba, who honestly replied, "My name is Wei Ba."
"Hmm, can you drive?"
"Yes."
"You’ll do."
All the soldiers disembarked, leaving only Tang Ye and Wei Ba in the car. Wei Ba jumped into the driver’s seat, recalling the route they had come by, and floored the accelerator towards the exit of the United District.
Under Tang Ye’s instruction, the car immediately sped up to its maximum speed and quickly left the United District, speeding along the silent roads outside.
About half an hour later, Wei Ba brought Tang Ye to the entrance of the sanctuary they had visited earlier.
"Marshal, we have arrived."
"Is this the place?"
As soon as Tang Ye got out of the car, he squinted his eyes. He sensed a strong desire for the blood of New Humans from the zombies right beneath his feet, although the aura was very faint, probably far from him. But Tang Ye could sharply capture this tremendous aura. This was the aura of a high-level New Human—Level 7 New Human!
An unprecedentedly powerful aura—Level 7 New Human!
"This is the place," Wei Ba said.
Tang Ye observed the surroundings. Everything was covered with evolved plants, dense with vitality yet impossible to ignore desolation. Other than these, there was nothing around; Tang Ye could not see any entrance to a sanctuary, only a collapsed building in front of him with large and small chunks of cement and stones scattered all around.
"Marshal, please follow me," Wei Ba said.
Pointing ahead, Wei Ba led Tang Ye towards the collapsed building, pushing aside the dense evolved plants to reveal a cleared path inside, where all sorts of furniture such as cabinets and tables were scattered on the ground.
The load-bearing walls on both sides were covered with cracks, struggling to support the building which had collapsed who knows how many days or months ago.
"Marshal, this way," Wei Ba led Tang Ye to a window frame where the window sashes had been removed and then crawled through it.
After coming out, Tang Ye’s first sight was the steel door next to him.
"Is this the place?"
"Yes." Wei Ba nodded.
Tang Ye raised his hand and said to him, "You can go back now, following me down there will get you killed."
"Why?" Wei Ba was a bit slow to respond.
"Not just you, no one would survive down there."
"You!" Wei Ba’s face changed dramatically, he thought of a particularly bad outcome, was the Marshal of the United District planning to go down there to kill?
"Marshal, you promised me," Wei Ba shouted, his voice already hoarse.
Tang Ye just looked at him coldly and said, "Lin Jie is down there, a battle between two Level 7 New Humans, how many do you think can survive that destruction?"
Wei Ba fell silent. He had never seen the power of a Level 7 New Human, but from the literal meaning, he understood it was absolutely irresistible, extremely powerful!
"Marshal, you mean to say..." Wei Ba could already imagine the tragic state of the sanctuary once Tang Ye went down there and battled the person below, but he no longer had the courage to continue his sentence.
"You understand what I mean. Do you still want to go down, or will you go back to the United District?"
"Understood, I’ll go back to the United District, but there are many more corridors ahead."
"Then let’s go."
Wei Ba stepped forward and entered the sanctuary’s code at the access control. As the door opened, he led Tang Ye inside, passing through four or five corridors to come to a second steel door.
A series of beeps sounded as Wei Ba entered the code again. After the door opened, he gestured for Tang Ye to enter.
"You go back."
"Yes." Wei Ba nodded but did not leave, just looked at Tang Ye with a pleading gaze. Two thousand lives were at stake below, yet he saw no pity on Tang Ye’s face, only endless coldness.
He suddenly remembered a phrase, only the weak show pity...
The steel door began to close, and in the last moment, Wei Ba only saw Tang Ye’s cold eyes, filled with intense killing intent!
After the steel door closed, Tang Ye’s figure completely disappeared in front of him, followed by the sound of a "ding," as the elevator inside started descending.
"Why so slow?" After two minutes, Tang Ye suddenly complained, watching the progress of another elevator ascending on the opposite side. At this rate, it was feared it would take more than half an hour to arrive.
"I can’t wait that long."
A fierce light flashed in Tang Ye’s eyes as he lifted his foot and stomped violently on the elevator’s deck, the massive force causing the entire elevator to tremble!
Tang Ye could see that with this stomp, several wires above immediately snapped, and the platform began to tilt.
"Pretty sturdy." Tang Ye muttered and lifted his foot again, stomping down fiercely!
This stomp, carrying even more power than the previous one, coming from a Level 7 monster, the lift finally couldn’t withstand any longer, and all the steel cables snapped off as Tang Ye and the elevator platform he stood on began to plummet rapidly, the steel plates on both sides grinding violently against the surrounding track walls, a shower of sparks obscuring the sky above Tang Ye’s head.
