Chapter 1056: Chapter 1052: Sending Change 17

Wei Ba led his people forward and approached the Peace Party soldiers who were collecting Ding Fulong’s corpse, asking, "Brother, is there a hotel around here? It’s late, and we can’t make it back to the sanctuary, so..."

Before Wei Ba could finish speaking, the soldier he had asked replied, "There are places to stay everywhere. For those buildings, you just pay two Yajin, and you can go up and find a room to stay in for a month. If you have enough Yajin, you can go a bit further in and find a specialized hotel." The soldier’s tone was somewhat downcast, obviously, his mood wasn’t great, it seemed that Ding Fulong’s death had affected him.

Hearing the soldier’s words, Wei Ba found himself in a bind; he was encountering the term Yajin for the first time and had never heard of it before. Where would he have any Yajin?

"But brother, we don’t have any Yajin. How about you lend us some, and we’ll certainly repay you in a few days."

Wei Ba’s attitude was sincere; he hoped to borrow some Yajin from the soldiers. Two Yajin didn’t seem like a lot in his first impression, and he thought he could easily borrow them—only, Wei Ba had no idea that a single Yajin, under normal circumstances, was enough to keep an ordinary person alive for a month if used sparingly!

In the world after the apocalypse, Yajin had become incomparable to the pre-Apocalypse money. Yajin could buy a person’s life or even extend one’s own. Basically, with enough Yajin, in the post-apocalyptic world, one could fulfill any wish, even love! Of course, barring some excessively fantastical ones.

Although two Yajin might not seem like much, it was enough for soldiers of their rank to go find a few exotic girls for a good time.

So the soldier did not entertain Wei Ba’s request for two Yajin at all, not in the slightest. He just pointed to some buildings outside and said, "See those buildings? If you don’t have any Yajin, just pick one and defeat the Boss Hei inside, then the whole building will be yours."

"This..." Wei Ba was stunned, such a barbaric rule.

Before the apocalypse, to own a set of one’s own home meant trading away half a life, yet in this new world, was it all about fighting?

"Don’t be surprised. This is the apocalypse. Inside, you can injure or disable people, but don’t kill them. If you do, by tomorrow, we might come and take you away."

"Alright, thank you."

Wei Ba nodded and led his people towards a building, but as soon as they entered, he called out, "Who’s the toughest fighter here? Step forward!"

...

The next day, Wei Ba and his comrades emerged from the building, their faces bruised. After buying some canned food with the Yajin they had seized in the United District, they prepared to leave the area and head back to the sanctuary. But before they could exit, on the streets, Wei Ba suddenly saw several familiar figures.

They wore the specially designed armors of the sanctuary and walked through the streets, drawing the same gawking as Wei Ba’s group had experienced upon entering the United District the day before.

"It’s those from the sanctuary again."

"Just saw a group yesterday, and here comes another today."

"Heh, probably can’t survive in the sanctuary anymore, so they ran out here."

"Hahaha!"

The sanctuary soldiers who had just arrived were embarrassed by the remarks, but could not respond.

Among them, however, was one person Wei Ba recognized well—Sun Wen. For some reason, Sun Wen looked pale and listless, with a vacant gaze and an unsteady walk, indifferent to the surrounding people’s whispers.

"Isn’t that Sun Wen? How come he’s back out here?" At the sight of Sun Wen, Wei Ba was only puzzled. The sanctuary’s external patrol teams totaled twenty, each made up of four people who worked for twenty days. Just yesterday, Sun Wen’s group had finished their work, and the earliest they could start again was eighteen days later. Yet here he was out in the open, accompanied by a group that wasn’t from his team. Most were Level 4 New Humans, with only two being Level 3 New Humans.

This was essentially all the high-end fighting force of the sanctuary.

"Could it be that the sanctuary has some urgent task?" said another Level 4 New Human standing beside Wei Ba.

"I don’t know, let’s go over and say hello."

As they spoke, Wei Ba led his group through the crowd towards Sun Wen and the others.

"Hey, Old Li, what are you doing here!"

The sanctuary soldier, a Level 4 New Human named Li, showed a flicker of panic in his eyes when he heard someone calling him. However, that was only for an instant; soon, he saw Wei Ba and his group and his expression returned to normal.

"Hm? Wei Ba, you’re here too?"

"Yeah, we got here yesterday. Hey, Old Li, it’s not your turn yet, right? How come you’re all out?"

"Ah?" Old Li’s expression froze momentarily, not knowing how to respond to Wei Ba’s question. But someone from their group was quick on their feet, and soon another Level 4 New Human replied, "Ah, Wei Ba, you don’t know. When Sun Wen came back yesterday, he encountered someone from the surface. He followed Sun Wen down to our sanctuary and after he talked, we found this place. You know the situation in the sanctuary, Wei Ba; time waits for no one, so we all came out to have a look around here and to enquire about the revival of our governance."

As he spoke these words, the man smiled lightly, yet as he glanced over Sun Wen inadvertently, a peculiar look of resentment flashed in his eyes that seemed to accuse Sun Wen, "If it weren’t for you, the sanctuary wouldn’t be in this state!"

All of this was because of Sun Wen—if he hadn’t brought Lin Jie to the sanctuary, they wouldn’t have had enslavement worms on their necks! It was all due to him.

Yet Sun Wen seemed to ignore him. For some reason, since yesterday, he had begun feeling unwell, his whole body devoid of strength, plagued by hallucinations and intermittent lapses in thought. He hadn’t slept at all the night before, just staring into space.

He suspected his arm wound had gotten infected, but since yesterday until now the wound had already scabbed over, leaving only a scarred mark.

"Oh, so that’s it." Wei Ba nodded in understanding, not doubting the man’s words. His gaze then turned to Sun Wen and he asked in concern, "Huh? Sun Wen looks terrible, what’s wrong with him?"

Old Li looked at Sun Wen, his brow involuntarily furrowed, but to avoid arousing Wei Ba’s suspicion, he still affectionately showed concern for Sun Wen, "Old Sun, what’s wrong with you?"

However, Sun Wen just shook his head, "It’s nothing, I’m fine, just a bit out of sorts."
