Chapter 1023: Chapter 1020: Corpse Tide Search Team

"Die! Die! Die!"

The crane operator had completely lost his mind, his eyes bloodshot, as he continuously maneuvered the iron hook to smash down on the zombies below!

"Damn zombies! Die, all of you! Hahaha! Die!"

"Damn it!" Yaztec couldn’t help but roar in anger. Even though he had a good temperament, he could hardly bear it anymore. Although he was a Level 4 New Human, the force released by the huge iron hook was enough to injure him, and he could only dodge!

But Yaztec, who had lost a leg, hadn’t adapted to his new body that quickly. As soon as he steadied himself, he saw the massive iron hook swinging a zombie directly toward him.

"Oh~ damn!"

Unable to help cursing aloud, the next second, the iron hook smashed directly into Yaztec’s body. Fortunately, his current posture resulted in a larger area of force distribution on his body, so the injuries weren’t very severe. However, even so, Yaztec spewed out a mouthful of fresh blood, and his whole body was sent flying by the impact of the iron hook.

Perhaps it was fate starting to look after him, but he didn’t land on the dangerous streets filled with flaming silver-armored zombies; instead, he crashed through a window and flew into a room.

"Cough, cough..."

The compression in his lungs made him cough dryly a few times. The blood trickling from his mouth made his skin feel swollen and painfully hot, but he quickly realized something and hurriedly stood up to look at Telos, who he had put down earlier.

"Teacher! Are you alright?"

Yaztec asked anxiously, his eyes filled with urgency, while Telos just shook his head to indicate he was fine. It took him a while before he spoke hoarsely and weakly, "I can’t feel pain anymore."

Yaztec hadn’t grasped the additional implication in Telos’s words yet and just breathed a sigh of relief, but the next second, he became anxious again. He noticed that the device in his hand was gone!

"Ah! The camera is gone!"

"It’s with me."

Telos raised the camera in his hand, smiling, but when the massive iron hook was about to strike, he had firmly grasped the device in his hands to prevent it from being damaged. For him, this device was more precious than his own life.

"That’s good!"

Yaztec completely relaxed. He dared not lose this thing, otherwise Telos, the old man, would scold him to death with his Gatling-like mouth!

Glancing at his own leg, the wounds had already started to scab over. Yaztec was relieved; he wouldn’t be infected and turned into one of those hideous silver-armored zombies. However, he noticed Telos’s violently torn thigh injury.

Both had lost their right legs, sharing a common plight, but one was merely an amputation, and the powerful healing capabilities of a Level 4 New Human had a good chance to make Yaztec’s leg grow back. Of course, if it didn’t grow back, that was just bad luck for him, but nonetheless, it wasn’t too bad, considering there were plenty with missing arms and legs in the apocalypse.

On the other hand, looking at Telos, his thigh wound had strangely stopped bleeding. However, the torn flesh showed signs of a sickly purple hue, and tiny spots of a black, unknown mucus were visible on the irregularly shaped blood vessels.

This situation was all too familiar to Yaztec. Telos had been infected.

Yaztec felt an indescribable heaviness in his heart. He wanted to remind Telos, but upon seeing Telos caressing the device like an old man do to his child, smiling, Yaztec found himself unable to speak.

He could only stand on one foot, hopping to the window through which they had entered, gazing down at the street below. Perhaps due to their unexpected intrusion, the zombies below had been drawn by the tower crane, gathering densely around it while the enormous iron hook continuously rose and fell, crashing crazily onto the silver armored group of zombies.

Both he and Telos were truly in a place of safety.

At that moment, Yaztec noticed a Peace Party Reaper tank parked not far down the road, its front end covered in fresh blood with the hatch wide open, its various instruments twinkling inside. Clearly, the soldiers inside hadn’t been killed by zombies. Evidently, this wasn’t the work of zombies. It was more likely due to a sudden incident within the Peace Party, causing the residents of Jiuge to retaliate against the Peace Party’s soldiers, dragging them out from inside the tank.

Noticing this behemoth, Yaztec’s eyes lit up, then dimmed quickly. With so many silver armored zombies below, it was hard to say if he could get in there now, let alone with another person.

"This..."

Yaztec’s heart struggled. He thought about abandoning Telos, who was crippled and could turn into a silver armored zombie at any moment. But leaving him behind would be utterly desperate. That’s when he saw the Zombie King, previously far off, suddenly appear across the sky and quickly swoop past.

A shock went through his heart, and Yaztec instinctively believed that being seen by the Zombie King meant certain death, the mere sight sending chills down his spine.

He quickly crouched, hiding himself outside the Zombie King’s line of sight. After the other drifted away like a ghost, Yaztec dared to poke his head out again. But after the Zombie King had passed, the zombies below started behaving even more oddly, each flame-armored zombie entering different buildings. A word flashed through Yaztec’s mind.

Search!

For some reason, that word resonated in his mind! It seemed like the zombies had received some sort of instruction and began searching through the buildings around the street!

He saw two zombies enter the building they were in while at the tower crane, the large iron hook stopped swinging, its heated face cooling down. He clearly saw that the driver hadn’t died, so the attack on the silver armored zombies was halted not due to the driver’s death but because the driver had been petrified when the Zombie King had passed.

But compared to the high tower’s driver, their current situation was the most dangerous!

If these zombies were indeed searching for something, it wouldn’t be long before the silver armored zombies broke down the door!

As Yaztec’s thoughts raced, Telos spoke up behind him, "Yaztec, come here."

"Huh?" Yaztec snapped back to attention and walked over to Telos.

"Take this." Telos handed the device he was holding to Yaztec.

He was a bit confused but still took it.

"Let’s go. It’s too dangerous to stay here."

"But... my leaving? What about you?"

Telos waved his hand, smiling, "I’m fine. Go! Can’t you see I’m already done for? Woudn’t I just be holding you back?" As he said this, he nodded at the grotesque tear on his leg.
