Chapter 1000: Chapter 997: Murderous Maniac Lin Jie
When the medical personnel checking the living heard his shouts, they hurriedly ran over and saw Chen Zhou’an, who appeared entirely incapable of surviving.
"Step aside."
The medical personnel quickly pushed the soldier aside and knelt down to examine Chen Zhou’an seriously while Ah Fu also followed, frowning at Chen Zhou’an’s current state.
His brain had suffered severe damage; such an injury simply made survival impossible.
"It’s so hot."
The hands of several medics had just touched Chen Zhou’an’s body when they were scorched, causing them to cry out in alarm, but it was much better after they put on gloves.
"Bring that instrument."
"Over there, lay his leg flat... yeah, yeah, yeah, relax."
After a while, a gleam appeared in the medical team’s eyes, and they exclaimed, "It’s a miracle, he’s still alive."
"Quick, quick, quick, lift him up."
Hearing their voices, Ah Fu was stunned and said incredulously, "He’s still alive."
"Yes, yes, yes, it’s truly a medical miracle, and now he is evolving into a Level 6 New Human. The cells in his body are transforming, which might be why he is still breathing."
"Can he survive?" asked Ah Fu.
The medical personnel hesitated a bit, shook their head, then nodded. "He should be able to, but we’re not certain as his injuries are too severe now."
Ah Fu nodded. Chen Zhou’an’s head was in such bad shape; it wasn’t a joking matter. It was already a miracle he was alive; he couldn’t expect much more.
"Alright, try your best. If... forget it."
"Don’t worry, vice chairman, we will do our utmost to save the commander."
"Go ahead."
The medical personnel exchanged glances and carefully lifted the severely injured Chen Zhou’an onto a stretcher. As they did so, Ah Fu suddenly saw a palm-sized teddy bear toy beside Chen Zhou’an’s hand.
Circling around the medics lifting Chen Zhou’an, Ah Fu walked forward, bent down, and picked up the toy bear, which was fluffy. The fur, having been washed numerous times, had lost its original color. Judging by the fur color around the teddy bear’s nose tip, it originally seemed to be yellowish-gray.
A string was wrapped around its head, with one end attached to a plastic tag. Clearly, the string connecting the teddy bear and the plastic tag was not the original one, having likely broken at some point and replaced by the bear’s owner with a new string.
Squeezing the plastic tag and looking at it, it was full of traces eroded by time. This tag should have been discarded the moment the bear was received, but for some reason, its owner had kept it till now.
The plastic tag had faded and turned yellow, seemingly like a gate of memory being pushed open, leaking pages and pages of history that refused to dissipate.
Even so, the contents on the tag were still clearly visible.
There was a short message filled with warmth, including a hand-drawn smiley face of a teddy bear.
"[A gift for Lin Jie... (๑>ڡ<)]"
Besides these contents, there was also a date on the bottom right corner. Looking at the year and month, it gave Ah Fu a sense of the era—from the time he gained intelligence and followed Tang Ye into human society, he had learned a lot about human civilization. But the date on the tag only accentuated an ancient sense of that era to Ah Fu.
He guessed that it was at least twenty years before the Apocalypse.
"Who is Lin Jie?"
Ah Fu muttered to himself, turning the tag around, then casually tossed the teddy bear onto the ground, deeming it unlikely to belong to Chen Zhou’an, probably something he had seized from someone under Mo Jun.
Zhao Lan, who was not far off, saw Ah Fu do this and couldn’t help but run over curiously to pick up the teddy bear. Although nothing special about the teddy bear struck him, when he saw that name on the tag, it was as if he had touched something ominous, and he threw the bear away in panic.
"This... this... he’s back!"
Zhao Lan’s face contorted with fear as he looked around, as if there were ghosts surrounding him, ready to claim his life.
"Who?"
Ah Fu was puzzled by Zhao Lan’s strange behavior.
"That person!"
"Damn it, which person?"
Ah Fu couldn’t help but knock on Zhao Lan’s head, causing him to become dizzy from the hit.
"It’s Lin Jie, he’s come for me! He’s a madman; he didn’t kill me eight years ago, but now he’s back!"
Seeing that name, Zhao Lan had only one thought: that the man was coming for him. He was a madman; he hadn’t killed him eight years ago, and now he had returned!
"Lin Jie? Who is he?" Ah Fu scratched his head, completely unfamiliar with the person named Lin Jie; he hadn’t even heard of him.
"He’s a mass murderer; vice chairman, you have to protect me, I don’t want to die by his hand."
"A murderer?" Ah Fu was still confused, but he didn’t take it seriously. After all, in the Apocalypse, everyone had killed someone, which in a way made them all murderers.
"What are you afraid of? With me around, no one can kill you in front of me."
Relieved by Ah Fu’s words, Zhao Lan felt a sense of security about this Level 6 New Human.
And Lin Jie’s name was demonic to many, but in the Apocalypse, few had heard of his reputation, since there were far more terrifying beings than zombies.
However, before the Apocalypse, almost everyone knew that he was an S-class fugitive.
Lin Jie had climbed to the prominence of the S-class wanted criminals purely through murder.
Every one of his crimes was heinous, impossible to record fully!
No one knew what Lin Jie truly wanted. His acts seemed like revenge, but they appeared more like mere amusement.
After being captured, people seldom saw Lin Jie again, and with the arrival of the Apocalypse, he had completely vanished, leading people to believe he had died at the jaws of zombies.
But here, Lin Jie had reappeared, once again resuming his familiar method of killing.
