Chapter 285: A Surprising Location
Chapter: A Surprising Location
---
The Chapter opens with Adam and Ani walking back to their classroom after finishing lunch on the rooftop.
The school corridors are bustling with students heading to their respective classes, their chatter echoing off the polished marble floors.
Despite the lively atmosphere, there’s a noticeable shift in attention as Adam and Ani pass by.
Whispered conversations and curious glances follow them, but the two remain unfazed.
As they enter their classroom, a brief hush falls over the room.
The students, who had been immersed in their own discussions, turn their attention to the couple.
The weight of their stares is palpable, but Adam and Ani have started to adapt to the attention. They walk to their desks confidently, their expressions calm.
Adam takes his usual seat at the back of the classroom, with Leo and Eric flanking him on either side.
Ani sits at the front, her posture straight and composed, a quiet determination evident in her demeanor.
The murmurs of their classmates gradually fade as the teacher enters the room, signaling the start of the lesson.
Throughout the class, Adam’s focus is divided. While he listens to the teacher, his attention frequently shifts to Ani.
He watches her carefully, noting how she handles the lingering glances from their classmates.
To his relief, she seems to be managing the situation well. Her calm and composed demeanor reassures Adam, and a faint smile tugs at his lips.
"She’s handling this better than I expected," he thinks to himself, pride swelling in his chest. Adam feels a sense of peace knowing that Ani is adjusting to the attention without losing her confidence.
Meanwhile, perched on Adam’s shoulder, Sona remains focused on her task. Her sharp eyes track Robin, who sits silently a few rows ahead. He’s unusually quiet, his gaze fixed on his notebook as if he’s intentionally avoiding any interaction.
Noticing this, Adam leans slightly to the side and telepathically communicates with Tayo, who is sitting on his other shoulder. "Tayo, I need you to keep an eye on Robin too," Adam says. "Stay on the opposite side from Sona. I don’t want him to sense anything."
Tayo nods and responds telepathically, "Understood, Lord Adam." She spreads her small, shimmering wings and takes off, silently positioning herself at a distance to monitor Robin from another angle.
The day passes quickly, and soon the bell rings, signaling the end of classes.
Students begin packing their bags, the room filling with the familiar sounds of zippers and rustling papers.
Adam stands up, slinging his bag over his shoulder. Before he can take a step, he notices Ani approaching him.
This surprises Adam, as he had intended to go to her desk. Seeing her smile as she walks toward him, his heart warms. Eric and Leo exchange knowing glances, their expressions amused.
Leo nudges Eric and mutters, "Looks like we don’t need to say anything. She’s already got him covered."
Eric grins and leans back in his chair. "Smart move," he whispers, giving Adam a thumbs-up.
Adam catches their subtle exchange and shakes his head with a smile, choosing to ignore their teasing.
He turns his attention back to Ani, who stands before him, her cheeks slightly flushed.
"Ready to go?" she asks, her voice soft but steady.
Adam nods, his smile widening. "Always."
As they leave the classroom together, the hallways buzz with energy.
The news of Adam and Ani’s relationship has spread like wildfire, and students gather near the exits, eager to catch a glimpse of the unlikely couple.
The courtyard outside the school is even more crowded, with groups of students waiting near the gates, their curiosity evident.
Adam and Ani step out of the school building, their hands clasped firmly together. The moment they appear, a wave of whispers ripples through the crowd.
Boys from various classes murmur in disappointment, their expressions a mix of jealousy and disbelief.
"So that’s the guy Ani’s dating?" one of them mutters, his tone dripping with disdain.
"He doesn’t look like much," another adds, crossing his arms.
Girls, on the other hand, exchange amused glances. "They look happy together," one of them comments with a smile. "You can tell they really care about each other."
Despite the mixed reactions, Adam and Ani remain unfazed. Adam walks with confidence, his grip on Ani’s hand firm and protective.
Ani, while slightly nervous, finds strength in Adam’s presence. She tightens her hold on his hand and glances at him, her lips curving into a soft smile.
Adam notices her smile and returns it, his calm demeanor reassuring her further. "Don’t worry," he says quietly. "Let them say whatever they want. It doesn’t matter."
Ani nods, her confidence growing as they continue walking. The crowd parts slightly as they make their way to the gate, the students stepping aside to let them pass.
Though the stares and whispers persist, Adam and Ani focus only on each other, their connection unshaken.
The scene ends with Adam and Ani walking hand in hand through the school gates, the world around them seeming to fade into the background.
The setting sun casts a golden glow over the scene, highlighting the strength of their bond as they step forward together, ready to face whatever challenges lie ahead.
In the distance, Sona and Tayo continue to watch over Robin discreetly, their presence unnoticed.
Robin’s figure lingers near the school building, his expression unreadable as he watches Adam and Ani disappear from view.
The Chapter begins with Adam and Ani sitting side by side on the train.
The gentle hum of the moving train fills the air as they glide through the countryside, the scenery outside a blur of green fields and distant hills.
Ani’s gaze is fixed on Adam, her expression a mix of surprise and confusion.
Adam notices her staring and chuckles softly. "You’ve been looking at me like that for quite a while," he says, tilting his head slightly to meet her eyes. "I’ve already told you—I’m not going to tell you anything."
Ani frowns playfully, puffing out her cheeks. "At least give me a hint about where we’re going," she says, her voice carrying a tinge of curiosity. "You’ve been so secretive!"
Adam grins, shaking his head. "If I tell you, it’ll ruin the surprise," he replies. "Trust me, it’s worth the wait."
Hearing this, Ani huffs and turns to face the window, pretending to ignore him. But her expression gives her away—a mix of excitement and curiosity. Adam chuckles at her reaction, his smile widening.
As Ani stares out the window, Adam takes a moment to focus inward. He telepathically contacts Pratham, his trusted AI companion. "Pratham," Adam says in his mind, his tone calm but commanding, "Ani and I are on our way to the base. Inform everyone and ensure that security is tight. Keep a close watch on the area."
Pratham’s voice replies instantly in Adam’s thoughts, confident and reassuring. "Understood, Lord Adam. Everything will be ready for your arrival. You needn’t worry."
Adam’s lips curl into a small smile, satisfied with Pratham’s response.
Just as he finishes the telepathic exchange, the train slows down, the sound of the brakes signaling their arrival.
Adam turns to Ani, his voice soft but eager. "We’ve arrived. Let’s go."
Ani’s mood shifts instantly. Her earlier pout disappears, replaced by a bright smile. She grabs her bag and follows Adam as they step off the train together.
Adam and Ani find themselves in a small but lively market. The cobblestone streets are lined with quaint shops, their colorful signs swaying gently in the breeze.
The air is filled with the scent of freshly baked bread, mixed with the faint hum of chatter from the scattered crowd.
Unlike the bustling city, this market feels calmer, almost secluded.
A handful of people move about—shopkeepers arranging their wares, children playing near a fountain, and a few customers browsing the stalls. Ani looks around, taking in the serene atmosphere.
"This place is nice," she remarks, glancing at Adam. "But it doesn’t seem like the kind of place I’d expect for a base."
Adam smirks at her observation. "Exactly," he says. "That’s the point. It’s remote, quiet, and inconspicuous. No one would think to look for us here, which gives us an advantage."
Ani nods slowly, her mind processing his explanation. "That makes sense," she admits. "It’s actually pretty clever."
They continue walking, the market gradually giving way to a quieter street lined with a mix of old and modern buildings.
Ani notices the contrast—traditional stone facades interspersed with sleek, contemporary structures.
After a few minutes, Adam and Ani stop in front of a small electronics shop. The sign above the entrance reads "Zero’s Electronics" in bold letters. The shop looks unassuming, its windows displaying various gadgets and tools.
Ani tilts her head, her eyes scanning the storefront. "This is it?" she asks, her voice filled with disbelief. "Your base is... here?"
Adam smiles and nods. "It’s not just a shop," he says cryptically. "Wait and see."
Just as he speaks, the door to the shop creaks open, and a middle-aged man steps out. He’s stout and slightly balding, with a friendly but mischievous grin. His simple attire—a plain shirt and jeans—gives him the appearance of a typical shopkeeper.
Ani’s eyes widen in recognition. "Wait... isn’t that Krish?" she asks, her voice tinged with surprise. "What’s he doing here?"
Adam’s smile grows wider. "He’s one of us now," he replies, gesturing toward the man. "Meet Krish, the newest member of The Union."
Krish approaches them with an exaggerated bow, his grin never fading. "Welcome, Lord Adam, Miss Ani," he says in a mock-formal tone. "It’s an honor to host you at our humble establishment."
Ani can’t help but giggle at his theatrics, her earlier confusion replaced by amusement. "You haven’t changed at all," she says, shaking her head.
"Why would I?" Krish replies with a wink. "Life’s too short to be boring. But enough chit-chat—come inside. There’s someone waiting to meet you."
Adam exchanges a quick glance with Ani before nodding. "Let’s go," he says, stepping toward the entrance.
As Krish holds the door open for them, Ani feels a mix of excitement and anticipation. The unassuming shop hides something far more significant, and she can’t wait to see what lies ahead.
