Chapter 175: Karma
Chapter: Karma
Logan watched as the black-suited agent sat trembling on the pristine white floor of the Central Vista.
A faint sigh escaped Logan’s lips as he walked toward the man, his movements deliberate and unhurried.
His imposing figure loomed over the agent, who stared at him with a mix of fear and disbelief.
Extending a strong, calloused hand, Logan spoke in a voice that carried both reassurance and an undeniable threat.
"If you behave properly," he said, his tone calm but edged with steel, "I’ll have no reason to bother you. But cross the line again, and I won’t hesitate to cut your throat."
The agent hesitated, his eyes darting nervously between Logan’s outstretched hand and his face.
Suspicion clouded his expression, but after a deep breath, he cautiously reached out and grasped Logan’s hand.
Logan’s grip was firm but not crushing as he pulled the agent to his feet with ease.
Releasing the man’s hand, Logan turned on his heel and began walking toward the far end of the room. "Come with me," he said without looking back. "I’ll show you our progress so far."
"What kind of a psychopath is he? First he scares me, and then he has to get me up with his own hands. I am not able to understand it at all. Now I understand why my senior was telling me to deal with him carefully." Agent thought
The agent adjusted his tie nervously, his earlier bravado thoroughly extinguished. He followed Logan in silence, his steps quickening to keep up with the ranger’s long strides.
Thoughts raced through his mind as they moved. If you’d just told me this earlier, I wouldn’t have said anything, he fumed inwardly.
But he kept his frustration to himself, knowing better than to voice it aloud.
After a few minutes, they arrived at a large glass-walled room. Logan paused, gesturing toward the chamber.
The agent’s eyes widened as he stepped closer to the glass, his gaze taking in the scene within.
The room contained six beds, each surrounded by an array of advanced medical equipment.
Monitors blinked rhythmically, their screens displaying streams of data.
The beds themselves were standard hospital beds, but their occupants were anything but ordinary.
Scientists in crisp white lab coats moved between the beds, their faces a mix of focus and urgency.
Tubes snaked from the patients’ arms into machines that hummed softly, their purpose unclear.
The atmosphere was clinical yet heavy, as though something far more significant than medicine was happening here.
As the agent’s gaze settled on the figures lying motionless on the beds, his breath hitched. He leaned closer to the glass, his brow furrowing in recognition.
The agent does not trust his eyes to see what he has seen in front of him, he keeps looking for a few seconds to confirm that what he is seeing is true.
"These... these are our earliest Power Holders from the Ranger program," he said, his voice tinged with disbelief.
Logan remained unfazed by the agent’s reaction. He crossed his arms and glanced toward the chamber, his expression as calm as ever.
"And you call yourself part of the government," Logan said dryly, his tone laced with quiet sarcasm.
The agent turned sharply to face him, confusion and frustration written across his face. "Of course I am. Why would you even ask that?"
Logan’s dark eyes met his, unblinking. "Because I was ordered to capture these three," he said bluntly.
"They refused to follow orders and made unreasonable demands. So here they are—captured and restrained. Now we’re running tests on them."
The agent’s head snapped back toward the beds. "Tests?" he echoed, his voice barely above a whisper.
Logan nodded, his tone matter-of-fact. "Their blood samples are being used as the key component for the detection device.
And before you ask, yes, it’s working. You’ll get the results you need soon enough."
The weight of Logan’s words hit the agent like a physical blow. His eyes darted back to the beds, his mind reeling.
He knew these Power Holders personally—Zora, Hang, and Gus. They had been among the first to make secret deals with the government, deals he himself had helped facilitate.
"They don’t even know..." the agent muttered, his voice trembling. "They don’t know what’s being done to them."
Logan didn’t respond, his gaze fixed on the glass chamber.
As the agent continued to process the scene, his attention was drawn to the remaining three beds.
Unlike the first three, these were occupied by figures with a distinctly different aura. The agent stepped closer to the glass, his eyes narrowing as he examined them.
The occupants of these beds were pale, their features sharp and otherworldly.
Even in their unconscious state, their presence was unsettling. "Vampires," the agent murmured, his voice barely audible.
Logan glanced at him. "Yes. These three were taken down by Zora, Hang, and Gus themselves. Handed over to us, as you can see."
The agent stared at the vampires, his thoughts swirling. He could see it now—a cruel twist of fate.
"They had no idea," he whispered. "They didn’t know that one day they’d end up in the same position as these vampires, undergoing the same experiments."
The room fell silent save for the soft beeping of the monitors and the low hum of the machines. The agent’s gaze lingered on the Power Holders, his mind weighed down by the grim reality of their situation.
Logan’s voice broke the silence, firm and unyielding. "Focus on what matters," he said. "You wanted progress, and here it is. You’re getting your detection device, just as planned."
The agent didn’t reply. He simply nodded, his face pale as he turned back toward the chamber.
Inside, the scientists continued their work, oblivious to the moral conflict playing out just beyond the glass. The room’s bright white light reflected off every surface, cold and unfeeling.
And with that, the Chapter came to an end, leaving the agent standing in silence, staring at the very people he had once trusted—now reduced to mere tools in the government’s relentless pursuit of power.
