I Am Extraordinary Alone -
Chapter 96 - 95: Trap
Chapter 96: Chapter 95: Trap
The Medicine People stood still, their forms swaying as if floating on wind-blown duckweed.
"Li Bin..." Wei Tianyang whispered.
The red cigarette butt flickered in the darkness.
Li Bin walked up to Wei Tianyang, his body passing through the group of Medicine People.
"Were you once held here?" he asked, caressing the rusted iron bed as if he hadn’t seen the Medicine People at all.
"Didn’t you see anything?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"What? I thought you called me out here to be sentimental and couldn’t resist having a chat," Li Bin replied, spreading his hands.
Wei Tianyang said nothing, only feeling an eerie chill here, but he suppressed the slight fear in his heart, stepped forward, and tried to touch the Medicine People.
His hand didn’t touch them but passed directly through, the Medicine People like white Shadows, emitting a cackling noise while looking at him mournfully.
"Something’s not right... How did they turn like this? Could it be the long time since their death? No..." Wei Tianyang murmured to himself.
He had just escaped from the Zero Nine One Reception Station and had encountered deceased souls on the road, who had died in civil strife, at least half a year ago.
At the very least, the Li Bin and guerrillas in front of him had been dead for decades, yet they hadn’t turned like this.
Even if the establishment of this reception station was old, it couldn’t be older than when Li Bin was fighting guerrillas in the forests.
It seems, regarding the deceased, there are still too many secrets Wei Tianyang didn’t know.
These matters needed to be recorded; perhaps, in the future, there would be a chance to find answers...
Wei Tianyang took out his cell phone and took a photo of these Medicine People.
The camera flash "Kacha" lit up the pitch-black room momentarily as bright as daylight, and in the viewfinder, there was nothing.
"Have your people check this entire building, I think it has long been abandoned," Wei Tianyang said.
Li Bin nodded, "After you climbed up, I already had them check; it’s empty, computers, and servers were destroyed, and the floor is covered with bodies."
Wei Tianyang’s heart sank.
A trap at the transport team’s location and another here?
He quickly walked out of the morgue, along the narrow corridors and escalators, passing through one empty laboratory after another.
As expected... in the hall at the base section, he saw groups of researchers and Tiantai Pharmaceutical’s security personnel, like the Medicine People in the morgue, they too had long been dead, and their states had turned incomprehensibly eerie, their eyes pupil-less, and their sclerae completely black, they could only stand near the corpses, their bodies distorted and shaking, emitting cackling noises from their throats.
Wei Tianyang suppressed the panic within him and tried not to pay attention to the eerie deceased and the hall full of cackles as he knelt beside the corpses to inspect closely.
"Li Bin, this is not right, not a single wound on the corpses, and all the people inside this building are gathered here, even the cleaners," Li Bin said.
By this time, the guerrillas had also completed their investigation, hundreds of them gathering around Wei Tianyang, which reassured him somewhat.
"They were summoned here. And... they’ve been dead a long time, the bodies have turned to mummies... probably for several years now," Wei Tianyang concluded.
He raised his head, looked around the ceiling of the hall, and continued, "Someone summoned them here, and then... released poison gas."
Li Bin also looked up and asked, "The ventilation ducts? Was this an assassination by a rival company?"
"Maybe, but I think it was done by insiders," Wei Tianyang said.
First, have them destroy all electronic equipment within the facility, destroy the data, then gather the people together and release poison gas...
This was to silence them...
"What are they really trying to hide?" Wei Tianyang muttered to himself.
"Let’s go up and see what’s inside that sphere. I think the answer lies within," Li Bin reminded him.
Wei Tianyang nodded and climbed up the fire escape ladder to the center of the building where the iron sphere was located.
Half of the reception station was embedded in the mountain, so near the iron sphere, there was even an industrial elevator installed on the mountain wall, and the previously suspended observation lab had been converted into a construction inside the mountain wall.
He tapped into objective reality, hoping to see what the Heavenly Falling Objects inside the iron sphere looked like, but after tapping in, he found no Heavenly Falling Objects within—the objective reality still only showed the iron sphere.
"Empty fort strategy?" Li Bin, stroking his chin, mentioned.
"Have you encountered this situation before?" Wei Tianyang asked.
Li Bin thought for a moment and said, "This reminds me of thirty years ago when we raided the government military headquarters. That night, I led sixty people to the vicinity of the headquarters, but when we stormed in, there wasn’t a single hair inside," Li Bin said.
"What happened next..." Wei Tianyang had a bad feeling.
"What followed was ruthless bombing," Li Bin recounted.
No sooner had Li Bin finished speaking than Wei Tianyang heard the wailing of fighter jets.
"Talk about fitting!" exclaimed Wei Tianyang.
He looked up at the pale sky, trying to spot the jets, only to see four dark spots approaching the forest from the horizon.
"They’re so punctual, there must be sensors installed inside the building that you triggered. If I were you, I’d get down quickly and spread the word," Li Bin said.
Without looking back, Wei Tianyang ran to the edge of a platform and leapt down.
The cold wind was piercing, blinding him so that he could hardly open his eyes; the next second he tapped into objective reality, transforming into a moth and fluttering to the ground.
He had just reverted to human form and had not run a few steps when the forest area in front of Wei Tianyang exploded violently.
Rolling fireballs enveloped by black smoke surged toward the sky, shock waves piercing through the dense forest, stirring up the gravel clearing and knocking him off balance.
Wei Tianyang, hands on the ground, saw about a dozen soldiers from the New Liberation Front rushing out of the dense forest, their bodies burnt and charred, collapsing after just a few steps.
"Gasoline bombs..." Li Bin said.
Wei Tianyang could not worry about that any longer and entered objective reality, rushing into the forest. He searched around and finally found the tents of the half-completed ones.
Despite the risk of being consumed by flames, Wei Tianyang tapped out of objective reality, his exposed skin instantly scorched by the surrounding intense heat.
Fortunately, the tent had not yet caught fire; he red-eyed, lifted the curtain only to find Yaha and Starbucks lying on the ground.
"Ishmael?!" Yaha struggled to speak.
"Where are the others?" he hurriedly asked.
"They are outside... didn’t you see them?!" Yaha asked anxiously.
Wei Tianyang was at a loss for words; outside... were burnt corpses... the fire was too fierce, it was a miracle the tent hadn’t been burnt.
This reminded Wei Tianyang of the factory bombing; thankfully, they had dropped incendiary bombs this time, or they would have been blown to pieces long ago by pressure bombs.
Wei Tianyang led Yaha and Starbucks out of the burning forest; Yaha also managed to transfer the burns of the three to nearby corpses.
Then, Yaha donned a coat, ready to rush back into the fiery woods.
Wei Tianyang grabbed her, saying, "Stay here!"
"No! I have to go in! I have to take them back!!" protested Yaha, tears brimming in her eyes.
"I’ll find them," Wei Tianyang declared, then tapped into objective reality and once more rushed into the fiery forest.
