Chapter 90: Chapter 89: Demon? Or Hero?
There was just one day left before the final Tiantai Pharmaceutical refugee camp was attacked.
Wei Tianyang had dispatched guerrilla teams led by Du Yan and Li Bin in advance to scout out the route Ruan Yu was using to transport goods—a narrow path located in a valley, flanked by sheer cliffs. Beyond the valley lay a stretch of sandy wilderness, with the border of Yin Country at the far end of the wasteland.
Although the path was sufficiently concealed, an ambush laid in advance would mean certain death for the transport team.
Yaha didn’t consider that transport team worth worrying about, and she decided to stick to the original plan of action.
As evening approached, Moby Dick returned, and after confirming the final details of the operation with Yaha, he brought a new ally.
The visitor was Min Li, one of Li Fei’s most trusted aides.
This greatly surprised Wei Tianyang, who didn’t know that Red Pharmaceutical had started cooperating with the New Liberation Front.
Min Li greeted Wei Tianyang with an impassive nod, giving only a brief self-introduction without saying much else.
This time, the New Liberation Front would send two teams, totaling 200 people, to support the attack. However, Red Pharmaceutical couldn’t use the airfield controlled by the radicals anymore, so there would be no air support.
Still, Min Li’s team had a drone squad, which would give the ground forces a high-altitude reconnaissance edge. That would be enough to deal with Tiantai’s last remnants in Chicken Snake Country.
The atmosphere during this talk was unusually amicable, and Moby Dick wasn’t as aggressive as usual. This amiable attitude instead made Wei Tianyang feel something was off.
That night, back in his room, Wei Tianyang saw Li Bin standing by the window smoking, as if he had something to say. But whenever he seemed about to speak, he hesitated.
Du Yan sat on the bed, her gaze towards Wei Tianyang full of meaning.
"Did you already know about Li Fei’s cooperation with Red Pharmaceutical?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"Their cooperation was only settled these past few days," replied Du Yan.
"This isn’t what I expected... What did she concede to Red Pharmaceutical?" said Wei Tianyang.
"That’s not for you to worry about... We will continue to help you. We’ll still be part of the fight that day," Du Yan said with a smile.
"Compared to that... You must be very clear that fundamentally, there is no difference between Red Pharmaceutical and Tiantai Pharmaceutical. If Li Fei capitulates to them, Chicken Snake Country will just enter another cycle," Wei Tianyang shook his head.
"Li Fei is smart, she has a sense of proportion... For the sake of the motherland, she knows what is worth sacrificing, and so do we," Li Bin turned to say.
He walked up and patted Wei Tianyang on the shoulder then disappeared with Du Yan.
Wei Tianyang took a deep breath and collapsed onto the bed.
Yaha didn’t care what Tiantai wanted to smuggle out. She just wanted to complete the task set by Red Pharmaceutical. He could use objective reality to move instantaneously between two places, but it wasn’t convenient to do so alone.
At that moment, he suddenly thought of Li Songyan.
That man had always wanted proof... Perhaps, this intelligence could be shared with him?
Wei Tianyang made a decision, opened the window, and jumped down.
In a blink, he landed on the street. Stepping out of objective reality, he arrived at the gate of the refugee camp.
If Li Songyan wasn’t there, he could also give the intelligence to that female doctor, Lin Yanqing, and ask her to pass the message.
The peacekeeping soldiers usually at the gate of the refugee camp had mostly withdrawn, and the sentry duty had switched to local security officers, who were only issued a Type 56 submachine gun.
The officer stopped him, asking to check his wristband, but as it happened, Li Songyan was just passing through the gate, and their eyes met.
"Let him in," said Li Songyan.
Wei Tianyang then followed him to his temporary room—a concrete bungalow on the west side of the refugee camp.
The room was spacious but simply furnished. An air conditioner hung on the wall, military uniforms draped over a wooden rack, a submachine gun leaned by the iron bed, and two tablets and a laptop stored in a bulletproof case lay on a table.
"Take a seat. Would you like tea or coffee?" Li Songyan pulled out a chair, then reached into a black backpack at the edge of the table and took out two cans of water.
Wei Tianyang chose the red can, opened it, and took a sip of the strong, bitter liquid.
Li Songyan sat at the head of the bed, and Wei Tianyang also took a seat on the chair. The room temperature was just right, making it feel comfortable.
"Why did you suddenly come to find me? Have you been to Linjiang recently?" Li Songyan asked.
"Let’s cut the small talk. I have something to tell you that might be helpful," Wei Tianyang said.
Li Songyan nodded, signaling for him to continue.
"Tiantai Pharmaceutical is hanging by a thread in Chicken Snake Country. They’re planning to transport the body of a ’Heavenly Falling Object’ to the border. Once there, their parent company will send someone to take over," Wei Tianyang said.
Li Songyan frowned and replied, "Really? Where did you get this information?"
Wei Tianyang immediately replied, "The New Liberation Front."
"Them? I knew it was you who caused the landslide at Six-faced God Mountain," Li Songyan said sternly.
"If you want proof, it’s best to act now because I’m not clear about when exactly they’ll move, but it should be soon," Wei Tianyang said.
Wei Tianyang gave the coordinates of the transport route to Li Songyan and got up, ready to leave.
"Hold on, Wei Tianyang," Li Songyan said.
He extended his watch and added, "You have a mobile phone, right? Let’s exchange contact information."
Wei Tianyang hesitated for a moment.
"Don’t worry, I won’t make harassing calls. At least the next time you want to find me, you won’t have to rely on luck, right?" Li Songyan said.
Wei Tianyang took out the mobile phone given to him by Red Pharmaceutical and touched it to Li Songyan’s watch.
The screen lit up, showing Li Songyan’s contact card on the phone.
"Ha! You’re still using a flagship phone," Li Songyan said with a laugh.
"By the way... do you know... about Red Pharmaceutical? They are preparing to take over Tiantai’s control here," Wei Tianyang said.
Li Songyan shook his head and replied, "I’m just learning about it now. They must have gotten the blessing of the New Liberation Front. After all, this country is about to change hands."
"I’m wondering, what’s the point of it all? You haven’t dealt with Tiantai yet, and Red is already prepared," Wei Tianyang said.
Li Songyan stood up, patted him on the shoulder, and said, "Our existence is the significance, Wei Tianyang."
Seeing Li Songyan’s smile, Wei Tianyang felt quite relieved and his impression of Li Songyan improved.
"By the way... if it really was you who did that thing at Six-faced God Mountain... then you... are more than just a ’Medicine Person’..." Li Songyan continued.
"I don’t care what I am. I just want to figure out what I can do with this power," Wei Tianyang said.
"Murdering refugees in the street?" Li Songyan added.
"They brought it upon themselves; they deserved to die," Wei Tianyang said.
"I know the ins and outs of the situation. I just want to say... not everything requires extreme measures, you know? I don’t think you are a demon. In my opinion, you just lack guidance," Li Songyan said.
"Did that female doctor tell you that?" Wei Tianyang asked.
Lin Yanqing, she had once spoken of him with utter hatred, calling him a demon.
"Most people can only judge someone based on appearances because they often can’t see the whole picture. Wei Tianyang, if you want to become a hero, you can’t resort to extreme methods. That leaves you open to criticism, exploitation by villains, slander by unscrupulous media, and condemnation from the masses who don’t know the truth," Li Songyan said.
Wei Tianyang nodded and replied, "Very useful, I’ve learned something."
After saying that, he walked out the door.
Meanwhile, Li Songyan immediately opened his tablet and checked the coordinates provided by Wei Tianyang on a military map. At the same time, he sent a message to Lin Yan:
"If you don’t want to return to the country empty-handed, come see
