I Am Extraordinary Alone
Chapter 79 - 78: Revenge

Chapter 79: Chapter 78: Revenge

It was barely dawn.

Wei Tianyang had slept for less than five hours before he left the Pei Guode Hotel and headed in the direction of Qiayang District.

He carried a black canvas backpack and wore a dark blue pullover and jeans. He strolled through this deserted world while Li Bin and a hundred guerrillas followed him, and more would join them once they reached their destination.

Along the way, Wei Tianyang pulled out a note that a dying female special forces member had given him, looking for impurities that had not yet been cleared.

He’d originally thought the numbers on the note were latitude and longitude coordinates for a digital map, but when he opened his phone’s Gude map application, he found no corresponding markers. Perhaps he would need to find a military map of Chicken Snake Country to really figure it out.

He decided to set that matter aside for now. Instead, he transformed into a moth and began flying through objective reality, which was much faster than walking.

After over ten hours of traveling, when he exited objective reality, he found himself in a deserted tech park in Qiyang City.

His phone showed it was 5:56 AM. There were no people in the buildings. Several unfinished buildings stood desolately in the wan light of a winter morning, like monuments to this self-destructing country.

Everything was still as he remembered. At the gate, there were fresh truck tire tracks, suggesting that Tiantai Pharmaceutical had conducted numerous experiments here over the past more than a year.

He sent the guerrillas inside to scout the premises and then sat down on some open ground in a nearby manmade forest, pulling a book from his backpack and reading with difficulty.

The pages were full of markings and annotations. He noted down all the characters he didn’t know to ask Kacha about later—he was learning to read this way.

At 9 AM, a convoy of three SUVs drove into the park from the southwest and went straight to the underground parking lot. Wei Tianyang got up, closed his book, and leisurely walked towards them.

Hans and his bodyguards took the elevator. Hans had arranged for a transfer last night, and the research team had been informed that this facility had been decommissioned.

Now, he had to handle the last of his affairs.

It wasn’t just as simple as burning the place down. Previously, to cover up their purchase of refugees in Chicken Snake Country for experiments, Ruan Yu had even resorted to bombing the refugees along with her own men with fighter jets - Hans thought it was insanely excessive.

Ruan Yu had already stained her hands with blood, and he did not want to follow in the footsteps of that crazy bitch. Such acts against humanity could result in them all rotting in jail without their protective cover.

Hans wanted to secure a way out for himself.

Like records of the abilities of the Heavenly Falling Objects, experiment logs of the Medicine People, work diaries... These things would not only make him appear more valuable, allowing him to start over at another pharmaceutical company if he left Tiantai but might also lighten his sentence if he and that madwoman were caught.

He used a tablet to tap into the building’s internal network, browsing various folders on the central server while his bodyguards curiously surveyed the area.

They were not Tiantai’s mobile unit but local conservative forces. Tiantai headquarters was now quite ambiguous about their attitude toward this research team.

In plain terms, they were on the verge of being scapegoated.

"What are you dawdling for? Downloading data doesn’t stop you from setting up the bombs!" Hans shouted at the bodyguards.

Considering their payment, they just snickered and began setting explosives on load-bearing walls and columns. Under normal circumstances, Hans would have been shot already.

"Damn... uneducated monkeys from the East Continent, fuck fuck fuck..." Hans cursed as he continuously tapped and dragged on the touchscreen.

The download progress bar moved at a snail’s pace. He wanted to just pull the hard drive off the processor and leave, but that was not possible.

The research data on the Heavenly Falling Objects was highly protected. Even though headquarters was thousands of kilometers away in another country, they still monitored the data of teams around the world all the time.

Removed the hard drive, the built-in security measures would instantly destroy the memory and, before that, send a level three alarm to the headquarters security center.

Following that, the team leader would receive two encrypted call requests from headquarters within a day, the first to confirm the situation and the second to notify of the dismissal of the whole team.

After that, the mobile team responsible for protecting the team would receive an order to silence them.

Hans fully understood the consequences of such actions, Ruan Yu wanted to fabricate the illusion of an attack on the facility, she didn’t want to take the blame nor leave Tiantai Pharmaceutical.

But things were never that simple.

Hans paced back and forth with his tablet in hand, anxiety-ridden, but unexpectedly, at that moment, the building suddenly lost power.

The central server’s backup power source automatically started, the orange LED lights on the black column flickering and dancing in the corner of the room, but Hans’ tablet lost its connection.

"Did one of you turn off the generator in the underground parking lot? Can’t you be a bit more reliable? Don’t you see I’m busy?!" Hans threw his hands up and shouted.

Soon after, a cut suddenly appeared on the neck of the bodyguard in front of him, blood spraying onto his glasses like water from an opened tap.

He stepped back a few paces, hearing the sound of shattering window glass, a hapless bodyguard being dragged to the window by something and thrown down.

The bodyguards, unaware of what was attacking them, nervously fired their Type 81 rifles around, shattering computer screens and research equipment display panels, the room thrown into chaos.

The intense gunfire inside caused Hans’ ears to ring; he watched as the group of bodyguards were stabbed to death by something invisible, and similar sounds of fighting came from below.

He had seen this scene before and would never forget it in his lifetime.

"Fuck... fuck... it’s him... it must be him! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!" he crawled on the ground, clutching his tablet as he slid under a desk, his shaking hands pulled out a phone, but he couldn’t unlock it due to the blood on his face.

"Shit! Shit!" Hans cursed, only to hear noise outside momentarily before silence fell.

Hans clutched the tablet tightly, holding his breath, intently listening even though the silence had lasted several minutes, he didn’t dare crawl out from under the desk.

"Gone?" he whispered to himself.

Several minutes later, he slowly poked his head out, surveying the lab.

All the bodyguards were dead, some had been thrown down the building, others sprawled dead on the spot, although not a gruesome death, fortunately, they left a whole body, just the throat was slit.

Hans breathed cautiously, slowly crawled out from under the desk, planning his escape route. He had the car keys, he hadn’t heard any explosion earlier, so the car should still be drivable.

Ignoring the blood on the floor, he crawled to the elevator and reached out to press the button.

The elevator car slowly ascended, Hans breathed a sigh of relief, it seemed he had indeed left...

Damn, that was close, escaped a disaster...

He sat down, took a deep breath, and began to smile with relief.

Ding...

The elevator doors slowly opened, Hans’ just-emerging smile suddenly dropped.

Wei Tianyang stood in the cabin, engrossed in a book, and as the elevator doors fully opened, those two red beads whirled, fixing their gaze on him.
