Chapter 55: 54 Chapters of Heavenly Fire
If it weren’t for Wei Tianyang cutting through the vines, the Mud Man wouldn’t have been able to get so deep.
The Mud Man raised the light machine gun and sprayed bullets at that pus egg, and it worked. He poured out half a drum of bullets, turning the egg into a gooey, white mess. The eggshell cracked, and sticky fluid splashed out, gushing from the cracks like a river, covering the floor and quickly reaching above their knees.
Wei Tianyang felt his feet wrapped in a slippery film, sliding back and forth inside his shoes, which made him curse out loud, while the Mud Man just stood beside him, laughing stupidly, his body covered in mud and thus unaffected.
As much as he wanted to curse, thinking about how after leaving the objective reality, there would be no trace left on him, Wei Tianyang just clicked his tongue.
After the pus egg burst, the vine withered visibly fast, looking like a snake shedding its skin, wide and thin, floating on the white liquid.
"It’s done, it’s clean now. There’s a city called Kongse nearby, right?" the Mud Man said.
Wei Tianyang nodded.
"Hmm, that city should no longer suddenly have any strange contagious diseases. This is all your doing, Ishmael!" The Mud Man laughed, peeling the mud that had wrapped around his left arm and reached out his hand to Wei Tianyang.
Wei Tianyang’s mouth twitched upwards slightly, his right hand plunging into the river of white liquid below him, making his hand completely slimy, and then he grabbed the Mud Man’s hand.
"I’ll remember you! Kid! Hahahaha!!!" The Mud Man was not angry.
With the matter here resolved, the two prepared to leave, the Mud Man said, "I told you before, I would reveal the method to voluntarily enter objective reality. Now is the time."
"You only need three things. First, our blood, second, a small tube of neutralizer, and third, the position of the moon."
"The position of the moon...?"
The Mud Man took Wei Tianyang outside, pointing to the moon entwined by the bloody Milky Way in the sky, saying, "Remember its position in the sky. The celestial pattern here is fixed; it doesn’t move. No matter where you are, it stays there."
"Mix your blood with the neutralizer in your palm, then, with your palm facing the direction of the objective reality’s moon, indoors or outdoors, if you do this, you’ll be able to go in. If you want to go out intentionally, use the same method," the Mud Man said.
As he spoke, the Mud Man took out a syringe of neutralizer and snapped off the injection head.
"Wait a second!" Wei Tianyang interrupted.
The Mud Man looked at him in surprise.
"There are armed guards all around us," Wei Tianyang said.
In the Mud Man’s timeline, this was still a ruin, but it was different for him; stepping out now would mean being surrounded by a large group of people...
"Hehehe~ Don’t panic, I forgot to tell you, there’s only one exit and entrance, you leave from where you entered, no matter how far you walked in objective reality," the Mud Man laughed.
Ah... so that was it.
The Mud Man cut his palm with a knife, poured the neutralizer over it, then aligned it with the moon in the sky.
"Goodbye, Ishmael! But remember one last thing, we are soldiers, and soldiers must be loyal to their country and their mission! After going out, if one day we meet on the battlefield, let there be no burden between us... based on your stance, do what you must do! No one will hate you. I feel the same... Ishmael... goodbye!"
The Mud Man’s voice gradually faded, and his figure slowly dimmed and became transparent, finally disappearing completely from his sight.
"Good..."
Before Wei Tianyang could finish saying goodbye, his body suddenly shuddered, and his vision brightened considerably. Focusing his eyes again, he saw a large patch of yellow soil in front of him.
"What are you looking at?" The sound of Kacha echoed in his ear.
Wei Tianyang was stunned for half a second, then looked up and found himself back on the high ground. Starbucks was in the distance, holding binoculars and watching the movements below, while Kacha held a book, looking at him curiously.
His clothes were clean, the sticky feeling under his feet was gone, and his hands were clean too; the marks on the ground had also disappeared.
Wei Tianyang straightened up, his surroundings returning to normal, the dark green wild forest swaying in the wind, the air crisp. Suddenly, he remembered that the Mud Man hadn’t told him how to leave a mark...
"It’s nothing," he said dryly.
Then, he walked to the edge of the cliff on the high ground, looking out over the factory surrounded by dense forest.
He looked to the left, where a heavily forested area completely concealed the zone where the refugees were held. Then, he turned to the right, where, among the dense forest, the white rooftops of factory buildings emerged, guarded by more than a dozen armed guards.
He knew that area like the back of his hand. He glanced back at the backpack placed on the ground, planning to put the bomb on the right side of the factory area. Once the operation started, he would immediately detonate it, attracting the guards to his side, so Starbucks and Kacha could lead the refugees out from the left flank.
Starbucks set down the binoculars and noticed Wei Tianyang staring ahead. He called out to him. When Wei Tianyang looked at Starbucks, there was a strange expression on his face, as if he was about to say something.
Far away, the howl of jet engines roared!
In an instant, a fighter jet flew over their heads. It was gray-black and flew extremely low, diving toward the factory area.
Then, Wei Tianyang saw four white trails spew from the side of the fuselage.
Air-to-ground missiles...
Wei Tianyang first saw plumes of smoke rising from the ground. Then, the dense forest collapsed, flames surged, and finally, a series of explosions were heard.
A gust of wind sheared through the forest, a great mass of branches and leaves soared into the air, stirring ripples like a huge stone sinking into a river.
Starbucks shouted, but Wei Tianyang didn’t hear it; the next second, the shockwave struck, sending him staggering back a few steps. His cheeks fluttered in the turmoil, and he ultimately ended up sitting on the ground with a thud.
The fighter jet glided past the factory area, quickly ascended, and zoomed into the clouds, disappearing without a trace.
"Who was that?!"
Wei Tianyang roared, scrambling up from the ground. All he saw was smoke that had now formed a black column, the dark green forest had ignited into a fire lake, and a thick black fog spread among the trees, the air filled with the greasy smell of charred flesh and the fiery smell of burning wood.
"Conservatives? Radicals? Or..." Starbucks was also quite perplexed.
Kacha, clutching his gun, came to the edge of the cliff, too shocked to speak, witnessing the vast factory area blasted into Hell.
"It’s not a regular air-to-ground missile; it must be a thermobaric bomb, otherwise, it wouldn’t just drop the bombs and leave," Starbucks said.
Wei Tianyang, holding his gun, started walking down the slope. Kacha grabbed him, asking, "What are you going to do?"
"There are dozens of refugees inside!" Wei Tianyang shouted angrily.
"There are no survivors left! The temperature there might have already soared to hundreds of degrees. The jet dropped a thermobaric bomb, specifically used to strike indoor targets... There’s no chance of survival," Kacha said.
Wei Tianyang looked at Starbucks, who also shook her head.
He turned back to his backpack, took out a syringe of neutralizer, unscrewed the needle, then pulled out the Bone Knife and cut the palm of his left hand. After mixing the blood with the neutralizer in his hand, Wei Tianyang aimed his palm toward the moon’s position in objective reality.
The surroundings quieted down, and a brilliant river of stars appeared above.
He had returned to objective reality.
This time, it was him alone.
He ran madly toward the factory; after the pus egg burst, the white fluid that flowed out was more than he had imagined, soaking the entire factory area, but as the spread area widened, the water line became shallower, only reaching his ankles.
The factory in objective reality was not damaged, but it was now strewn with corpses. He ran into the factory building and saw many dismembered shadows lying on the ground, all motionless.
He reached the area where a large group of refugees had been held previously, seeing almost no shadows...
Presumably, the moment the bomb had exploded in subjective reality, these people had already been vaporized.
He stood there, not so much angry as feeling deeply regretful; he could have saved these people.
Wei Tianyang turned around, pulled out another tube of neutralizer from his bag, and prepared to leave objective reality.
At that moment, in the corner of his eye, he suddenly noticed a small black shadow curled up in the crack of an iron door...
