Chapter 528: Chapter 526: Each Harboring Their Own Schemes
Scott stared at his cellphone, caught between a rock and a hard place.
He slipped the cellphone into his pocket and bowed his head in deep thought.
The President’s office certainly hoped to resolve this matter domestically and to secure the body of the humanoid Heavenly Falling Object.
The army staff seemed very confident, currently discussing with the President, even talking about whether the power of the nuclear bombs was excessive and whether it might damage the body.
Although the President was restrained by various forces, he still visibly held the status of Commander in Chief, and the House of Representatives had no right to intervene in this issue.
Calling Wei Tianyang would certainly be more reliable; he had defeated Lilith and had proven himself capable of defeating an extraterrestrial visitor.
But that also meant that Wei Tianyang would absorb the Heavenly Falling Object’s powers. By then, the Sethiyan Federation would get nothing.
How did Spencer see this? Scott couldn’t help but speculate; had Spencer’s team observed something that even the President didn’t know? Did Spencer believe that only Wei Tianyang could handle this dangerous object, even though he himself regarded Wei Tianyang as humanity’s adversary?
And just before Scott received this email, Spencer was sitting together with the Foundation’s core team in an underground bunker.
In this small office, the lights were off, and the blue glow from a matrix of 42 OLED screens mounted on the wall displayed a panoramic view of Earth from various national satellites.
The object was too large; the Federation couldn’t hide it. Satellite 24 captured an image, on the Federation’s southern ochre plains, a visibly black Shadow was slowly moving.
"The domestic army has been mobilized, and the southern base’s nuclear missile silos have also entered a ready-to-launch state," a man in the dark corner said.
"They are bait; once they surround the big guy, the nuclear bombs will kill them all, including him," Spencer said.
"Lady Ezekiel, regarding the current situation, have you seen anything?" another lady sitting in the darkness asked.
Ezekiel was sitting opposite Spencer, at the end of the long table, with Spencer resting his chin on his crossed hands.
"He is chasing the white Shadow; I’m not sure what it is," Ezekiel said.
"The white Shadow?" The lady did not understand.
"That was His only failure," Ezekiel seemed to be murmuring to herself.
"Is the white shadow you mentioned the same thing we are dealing with now?" Spencer asked.
"No, I predicted the arrival of this object in the past few days. I had several future memories in my super-experience, but I couldn’t link them together," Ezekiel said.
"It seems like you can’t see Him in your observations of the future," Spencer said.
"I should say, my future observations can’t accurately see the Heavenly Falling Objects," Ezekiel said.
"The military has completed the blockade of North Carolosna, Mr. Spencer," someone said.
"The future Ezekiel saw is not like this; He is the one who ultimately defeats it," Spencer said.
"Is it possible for the future to change?" the lady asked.
"We are the first to face this question. We guessed that He might bring about the apocalypse in the not-too-distant future, but we are unsure. However, the current crisis should be resolved by Him," Spencer said.
"We seem to have fallen into some kind of self-fulfilling loop. Perhaps this could also cause the prophecy to be self-validating," Ezekiel said.
Spencer let out a heavy sigh and said, "Perhaps so. We fear changing the future, yet we also want to avoid that future. This is the most difficult choice I have ever faced in my life."
If Wei Tianyang does not intervene, will humanity fail?
Ezekiel’s observations have over ten instances that diverged from reality. Minor changes cause the entire event’s trajectory to alter.
Helena Mina was supposed to die in the laboratory, but she was taken away by Wei Tianyang.
Heisai State and the southern countries of the East Continent were supposed to fall into a civil war over Black Medicine, but now all is quiet as still water.
Yin Country... has closed off its nation.
"Does the Council know?" the woman asked.
"They should, but they probably can’t take any action until the Sethiyan Federation allows it," Spencer said.
"The current disaster may be more pressing, we still need Him now," Ezekiel said.
"What if our actions are actually hastening that future’s arrival?" Spencer said.
"Spencer, one decision can change the fate of a world. Perhaps, He already knows and is on His way here," Ezekiel said.
"Perhaps, He is also afraid of nuclear weapons," the man said.
There was silence in the meeting room for a while.
"If such a strike doesn’t kill Him, we’re faced with the worst possible outcome," Spencer said.
"We have many plans to eliminate Him; now is an opportunity," the man said.
"I veto the proposal," Spencer shook his head.
If he really did call Wei Tianyang here, he couldn’t easily attack Him, as that would enrage Him and lead Him to take irrational actions against the federal government; their memories would surely expose themselves.
"Let’s leave the opportunity to eliminate Him to the little match girl; this time, let Him be a hero once more," Spencer said.
After speaking, he sent an email to Scott, the director of the Black Medicine Administration, and then quietly waited.
Scott had indeed received the email, but contacting Wei Tianyang was not a simple matter, and he certainly wouldn’t go to the hotel himself.
Scott stood up and left his office, walking into the bathroom to call Pence from the Council.
Heiside State.
Pei Guode Hotel.
Late at night, Wei Tianyang awoke from his sleep, Zhao Ling was holding him, curled up in his arms.
At this moment, standing quietly at the door of the room was Helena Mina.
The doors to the guest rooms at Pei Guode Hotel were all equipped with pheromone locks. Helena Mina being able to open it proved that her pheromones were highly compatible with those of Wei Tianyang.
Wei Tianyang got up, and the small bedside lamp automatically turned on, its faint yellow light illuminating half of his body.
"What is it?" Wei Tianyang said.
"Pence called me, a star has fallen from the sky," Helena Mina said.
"When?" Wei Tianyang said.
"It happened tonight; the Sethiyan Federation doesn’t plan on letting anyone else get involved," Helena Mina said.
"Then let the stars kill them all, and I’ll clean up the mess afterward," Wei Tianyang said.
Zhao Ling also awoke at this point, her hand roaming over Wei Tianyang’s abdomen, she said softly, "Go do what you need to do."
"The Council is requesting that you handle this," Helena Mina said.
Wei Tianyang sneered and said, "How dangerous is this falling star? Is it comparable to Baphomet back then?"
The black sheep seemed to hear someone speaking ill of it and squinted its eyes, raising its head.
"The Council told me this: if not stopped, that thing might become the next person," Helena Mina said.
The corners of Wei Tianyang’s mouth lifted slightly. He rolled out of bed and walked to the window, saying, "This might also be an opportunity."
Helena Mina nodded and said, "Let them know the danger of the stars. Let them know that only you can handle the stars."
