Chapter 488 - 486 Meeting

Chapter 488: Chapter 486 Meeting

a.m.

Residential building beside the Pei Guode Hotel.

On the 12th floor, a wooden window was half-open, its curtain concealing the aperture, with a small portion of a long-tube telescope protruding from the corner, emitting the mechanical sound of focus adjustment.

Soap sat on the chair, intently staring through the lens. This military-grade high-magnification camera was mounted on a black stand, which could be freely adjusted for height and angle. It zoomed the camera in and out and was also equipped with a directional microphone, capable of recording precise sound from up to 60 meters away.

"Any findings?" Gates asked.

He was sitting at the table assembling a pistol, while Price was opposite him, polishing his large revolver.

"Haven’t found anything valuable. The entrance of Pei Guode is too narrow compared to other five-star hotels, and there aren’t many people coming in or out. From the outside, it doesn’t quite look like a five-star hotel," Soap said.

"You just need to check the official website and see the room rates to know its star level," Ghost laughed.

"They are all here for Wei Tianyang. We’ve investigated all the guest information, and in the past few years, the number of upper-class individuals entering Etolia has far surpassed previous years, even some international drug lords and scum frequent Pei Guode. Some are seeking an opportunity to meet him, while others simply regard this place as a refuge," Price said.

"At least when we blow it up, we won’t feel much guilt," Gates said.

"There are also a bunch of war orphans in there," Soap said.

"There’s always a price to pay. We can’t have it both ways; we have to make sacrifices for the greater good," Price said.

"That is assuming he decides to stand against us," Ghost interjected as he walked in from another room.

Ghost always wore his hood no matter where he was, even if the temperature in Heisai State soared above 40 degrees Celsius. He walked up and patted Soap on the shoulder; it was time to switch shifts.

"Don’t you ever get hot wearing that thing all the time?" Soap asked.

"That’s my face. You may as well think of me as a skeleton beneath my mask," Ghost said.

"Do you wear it even when you go fishing?" Gates asked.

"I have different styles. I wear one that doesn’t show my eyes when I sleep," Ghost said.

Everyone laughed out loud. Soap, still chuckling, went to keep watch in the outer hall.

No sooner had Ghost sat down than he suddenly urged, "Hey! We have a situation!"

As soon as he spoke, the others immediately gathered behind him.

Ghost pulled out a tablet and connected the camera feed to it.

At the entrance of Pei Guode, three black sedans suddenly appeared, accompanied by four SUVs.

The arrival of these vehicles completely blocked the already narrow road, and it was somewhat abnormal for a five-star hotel to be situated in the Lower District, not even in a prime location.

A few men in suits got out of the cars, both white and black.

Ghost zoomed in the camera on the black man and, after getting a clear view, even Price seemed surprised.

"Is that the President of Etolia?!" Price said.

"The others following him are wearing the United Council’s badges. I guess they’re here for Helena Mina’s business," Ghost said.

"President Helena Mina? Is she in the hotel?" Soap asked.

"Not sure, but that’s what a lot of people think. It’s said she acted out of the ordinary at the Climate Summit, and the academy took her in. As a result, Wei Tianyang flew personally to the Sethiyan Federation and took her away," Price said.

"Look, they’re going in. The President is here, which means he might actually meet Wei Tianyang himself," Ghost said.

"They didn’t bring bodyguards," Soap remarked.

"Bodyguards are of no use in front of Wei Tianyang. You could bring an entire combined brigade and it wouldn’t matter. Besides, the President of Etolia and him are supposed to be allies," Gates said.

As the group entered the hotel, the front of Pei Guode returned to its previous calm.

Although the weather was unbearably hot, inside the hotel it was pleasantly cool and the air was lightly scented with lemon.

This year, just past 50, President Bunub of Etolia was in his prime. Having inherited his father’s political assets, he was determined to propel his country further, aspiring for it to stand shoulder to shoulder with Yin Country and the Sethiyan Federation as a superpower. Previously an unattainable dream, it had become less fantastical and more realistic with the presence of the Pei Guode Hotel within the nation’s borders.

As soon as he stepped through the doors of the hotel, Bunub’s usual demeanor of a political elite and high society figure dissipated, replaced by a sense of humility. His conduct and speech grew cautious, even the direction of his gaze was deliberated with inner precision.

He and the officials from the United Council approached the reception desk, giving the attendant a respectful bow. Then, fixing his gaze upon her name tag, he said with reverence, "I am President Bunub of Etolia, and I have brought several officials from the United Council."

"Are you here to book rooms?" the clerk asked with a smile.

"No, I have an appointment for a secretive meeting and have already received His approval," Bunub said.

The clerk’s expression changed and Bunub cast her another bow in haste.

"You know, I will make a call to personally confirm the arrangement for this meeting. In this place, no one can afford the cost of lying," the clerk said.

"How foolish would it be to lie to Him? Why would I do such a thing? I am ready from the bottom of my heart to dedicate this country to Him, and my people as well. How could I betray my faith?" Bunub said humbly.

The clerk made the call and spoke softly, "Mr. President says you’ve granted him permission for an audience with You."

The response came in a low voice from the other end.

The attendant bowed slightly to the air and said, "As per Your instructions."

She hung up the phone and, smiling, said to Bunub, "Come with me, I’ll take you to the meeting room."

Bunub bowed again and then turned to look at the other officials. In that moment, the President’s authority returned to his stature.

"In a moment, none of you should speak. You do not yet know how to converse with a deity. To anger Him, or to cause Him discontent, would bring disaster upon yourselves. Understood?!" he said.

The officials nodded meekly. Although the hotel’s decor was not particularly outstanding compared to other five-star hotels, once they stepped inside, it was as if they had entered the realm of a god, and they all became humble.

Those sitting and walking around the lobby all bore the demeanor of pilgrims heading to a sacred place, maintaining an atmosphere of solemnity and dignity. To the unaware, it might seem as though they were in a court of law or a temple.

The group took the large elevator up to the 28th floor. In fact, the Pei Guode Hotel didn’t have a dedicated meeting room, and there were still some vacant rooms on this floor.

As the clerk stepped out of the elevator, she turned back to remind them to keep quiet. Just as she finished speaking, several noisy children ran down the hallway.

The others saw it too and understood that these children were the ones He had brought over from various battlefields.

Seeing them dressed in neat and clean clothes, carefree as they ran about on His floor, several female officials couldn’t help but shed tears.

The clerk led them into an empty room. Once everyone was seated, she left.
