I Am Extraordinary Alone
Chapter 467 - 465 Yinan

Chapter 467: Chapter 465 Yinan

Three days later.

At 2 a.m. midnight.

Inside the borders of Yinan.

More than ten helicopters carried the Black Medicine Investigation Team’s marines towards the southern city’s building clusters.

Half an hour earlier, a 5-minute-long airstrike had plunged the city into a sea of flames.

Wang Ye sat at the gunner’s seat, his ICR-2 automatic rifle hung on his chest, his hands tightly gripping the handles of the rotary machine gun.

On the full-coverage helmet’s visor, the combat HUD displayed life signs as green dots for a total of 600 combat units flickering across the array.

This time, Schweinsteiger wasn’t by his side; instead, Da Gu and Mika were.

"We’re about to reach the landing site!" Mika shouted from behind him.

On the street below, three white trucks hurried past, their cargo beds mounted with vehicle machine guns catching Wang Ye’s eye.

"Watch for rockets, 12 o’clock direction, rooftop of the four-story building," the pilot said.

The helicopter tilted slightly, Wang Ye swiveled the gun barrel around, and in the visor, a small building 120 meters away was locked inside a red frame—a target pinpoint from the pilot.

Wang Ye pressed the button, the six-barreled rotary gun belching flames for a brief 12 seconds, unleashing over 300 bullets, tracing a fiery, curving line against the dark night sky.

He hadn’t gotten a clear view of the situation when the pilot declared, "Done."

The helicopter changed its angle, climbing higher, carrying everyone towards their destination.

Wang Ye had been pondering a question from the meeting three days prior.

What if Wei Tianyang showed up?

Price didn’t respond; he just crossed his arms and smiled.

But Philip answered, "The chairman of the United Council will make sure he doesn’t come to bother us."

Glimmers of fire formed a river of light in the dark city, reminding Wang Ye of that night in Fengrao City, where the silhouettes of dark buildings loomed nearby. On the street in front of a building, three tank wrecks smoked.

Flashes of gunfire intermittently burst from the building, Wang Ye aimed his gun but noticed friendly forces marked with aluminum frames in the HUD.

"We’re here! Defend this position!!" the pilot commanded.

’Bang, bang, bang’ sounds came from the helicopter’s hull; they had to divert a bit further away circling to the rear of the dark building.

Wang Ye disengaged the safety on his rifle, deployed the rappelling rope, and was the first to descend, followed by Mika and Da Gu, then six others; one remained aboard the helicopter to man the cannon, providing aerial support.

The dark ground had patches of snow, with some areas iced over, making walking somewhat difficult.

Wang Ye’s HUD had already received mission directives.

Tricolor markers provided him with the situation on the battlefield: a green square was fixed 200 meters ahead on a blasted black building they were to support and defend, with a platoon trapped inside.

Three red squares sat at the building’s base, outlining the shapes of vehicles; the means of evacuation had been destroyed. Friendly forces, who’d arrived earlier, had taken three enemy tanks, but two wounded were stuck inside, and the enemy fire was too intense to mount a rescue.

A yellow square marked a farther area in front of the building—an area already scouted by unmanned drones—where four platoons of infantry were engaging with their comrades inside the structure.

The battle AI gave Wang Ye two options: to lead everyone into the building for coordinated defense or to cross the street and launch a surprise attack on the enemy forces on the other side.

Wang Ye led everyone as they ran toward the base of the building, where green marking frames appeared from the side of the structure. The soldiers underneath glanced up and shouted loudly, "Reinforcements have arrived!"

Wang Ye did not go upstairs. There were nine of them in total: Da Gu and two other soldiers were equipped with anti-tank weapons, Mika carried a portable drone, Wang Ye was the medic, and the rest made up the assault team, led by him as the squad leader.

Everyone entered the first floor of the building and took up defensive positions.

The platoon leader upstairs contacted him via radio frequency, "It’s Yinan’s regular army! We’ll have to deal with them as soon as we hit the ground! They seem to know for sure we were coming! We’ve run out of anti-tank firepower! Ammo’s running low too, damn it, we must hold this position! Can you clear the park in front of you with your squad?!"

"What do they have?! Are there any tanks left?" Wang Ye asked.

"It looks like they don’t have any left! But they have mortars! Our snipers killed two operators; it’s unmanned for now. We’ll cover you from here!" the platoon leader said.

Wang Ye nibbled the tips of his index finger and thumb together, enlarging the scope of his goggles’ map. He saw an area across the street, indeed a small park, with the mission target covered in a light yellow zone at the bottom right corner of the park.

"Mika! I need your drone to go over and take a look," Wang Ye ordered.

Mika shouted back an acknowledgment, then turned to take off his backpack as bullets hit the wall behind him.

"Release it, release it!" Wang Ye ordered.

Mika pulled out the folded drone from his backpack. After unfolding it, it was about the size of two palms, with a silencer pistol hanging underneath.

He crawled to the stairway entrance on the second floor, released the drone through a hole in the wall, and let it fly into the night sky. Then, he took out the controller and sat on the stairs to operate it.

Wang Ye followed, watching the screen.

The drone quickly ascended to 50 meters, crossing the street within seconds and hovering above the park opposite.

The camera switched to night vision, and both men saw some figures moving.

"There, the mortar is on their left flank, four of them... but their right flank is weak," Mika said.

"That’s because there’s a drainage ditch on the right, with four-meter-high walls on both sides. Once you go down, you can’t get back up," Wang Ye pointed at the screen.

"How do we get across?" Mika asked.

"We go through the drainage ditch," Wang Ye replied.

"But... once we’re in position, how do we get up? If they hear us, a couple of grenades will be the end of us," Mika said.

"Split our men into two groups. One team will attack them from the left. I’ll take two men through the drainage ditch," Wang Ye said.

"We can’t afford any mistakes," Mika said.

"Let’s do it this way. You provide aerial views from here," Wang Ye said.

Mika nodded. Wang Ye picked up his gun and went to the stairwell, ordering the others to gather around.

Mika shared the drone’s aerial view, and Wang Ye explained the combat deployment. Then, he led two soldiers down into the drainage ditch while Da Gu was put in charge of the feint on the other side.

The ditch was deep, and once they descended, it felt like the sky became much higher. The walls on both sides had a slight slope, but they were too smooth and more than three meters tall, impossible to climb up solo. Wang Ye’s plan was for three men to stack on top of each other to climb out.

The three of them smoothly crossed the street following the channel and entered the park’s perimeter. By this time, Da Gu was in position, and the platoon leader in the building coordinated to provide covering fire.

Da Gu said, "We’re starting now! You guys need to move fast!"

With that, the squad’s firepower poured out. Through the drone’s aerial view, the enemy began to retreat, their attention diverted.

Wang Ye knew the moment had come. He had two men at the bottom, stepped on their knees and shoulders, and vaulted up to the edge of the water channel.
