I Am Extraordinary Alone -
Chapter 454 - 452: I Don’t Really Like Him
Chapter 454: Chapter 452: I Don’t Really Like Him
"Of course, I’m joking, Helen, you know, this hotel is indeed full of people who should be dead, but there are also many who shouldn’t. Why are you standing? Have a seat."
Wei Tianyang walked to the table and pulled out a chair, and Helena Mina cautiously seated herself.
The TV was showing an aerobics program, a black goat was sticking its butt out and constantly twisting, rhythmically lifting and lowering its four hooves.
Was this his pet?
Wei Tianyang looked at Baphomet and said, "Take Yaha out to play, and turn off the TV while you’re at it."
Baphomet then went up to the TV, pushed the button with his horn, and then ran in front of Yaha, knelt down on its forelegs, and stuck out its butt, waiting for Yaha to climb on.
Yaha, well accustomed to this, hung her smartwatch on the goat’s horn and then lifted her leg to straddle the goat’s back.
She, like a queen ready for an outing, rode the black goat, slowly walking past Wei Tianyang and Helena Mina, exiting the door, and disappearing from their sight.
Helena Mina sipped her coffee and said, "You seem to be doing well now."
"Much better than back in Chicken Snake Country," Wei Tianyang said.
His eyes swept over Helena Mina’s abdomen and he added, "You have a listening device in your stomach."
At that moment, two kilometers away from the hotel on a street, the listening personnel in a black van were sweating profusely, and far away in the Sethiyan Federation, in the United Council’s strategy room, listeners such as Pence and Bideng also wore grave expressions.
"Will he kill her?" Pence asked.
"I guess not," Lonniya said.
Helena Mina felt somewhat nervous.
Wei Tianyang touched the back of her hand holding the coffee cup, and said, "I don’t mind, don’t be nervous."
He lifted the cup and took a sip, then continued, "Besides, I am well aware of the implication of your presence here, so many people want to know my whereabouts and thoughts."
Helena Mina softly said, "I’m sorry, Wei, politics just plays out this way."
"No, it’s not about politics," Wei Tianyang shook his head and said, "It’s a normal human reaction."
"Humans, as a species, live in perpetual fear, thus being always in conflict is the norm for us. The oldest human emotions are anger, fear, and desire. Anger gives us aggression, fear causes us to avoid danger, and desire, desire propels us forward."
"For millions of years, human society has evolved to its current state, but fundamentally it hasn’t changed much. Whether we fight with clubs or superpowers, we all draw strength from anger."
"Anger swings the club, anger pulls the trigger, anger presses the button... Anger drives the black blood in our veins, no different. Fear, on the other hand, is easier to understand. The listening device in your stomach is a seed of fear."
"Over these years, I’ve seen through many things that I hadn’t quite understood before. Politics, law, military actions...these aggregations of certain behaviors are just man-made concepts, but ultimately, the real emotions underlying them are what truly matter."
"Only our emotions are real, everything else is a vacuous concept made by humans."
Wei Tianyang finished his coffee, stared at Helena Mina and was silent for a while.
Helena Mina felt Wei Tianyang had become somewhat unfamiliar; when she had first entered, she noticed one side of the wall being squeezed by three ceiling-high bookcases stuffed with books, and in the corner, dozens of large volumes were stacked up like bricks against the wall.
Initially, she had thought someone else did the reading, or perhaps they were just for show. After all, she never associated Wei Tianyang with reading.
"Hard to believe, right? These past few years, I really have been reading. Mostly novels, and later, I started reading history," Wei Tianyang said.
Helena Mina brought the cup to her lips, covering her face to hide the embarrassment of her thoughts being read.
"Humanity is repeating a single kind of history, just one. That’s what baffles me," Wei Tianyang said.
"So, was it fear, desire, or anger that drove you to show yourself and fly to those two insignificant countries recently?" Helena Mina asked.
"It’s anger," Wei Tianyang replied bluntly and directly.
"New Biyas Country is in a civil war, and what about Yamian Country? Besides, you didn’t stay long in New Biyas, and the civil war wasn’t ended," Helena Mina said, puzzled.
"That is... the difference between the past me and the present me," Wei Tianyang said.
"I realized that war is a natural phenomenon in human society, that war is the norm."
"In the past, I tried to use my violence to stop the wars, but later I found that I merely eliminated one side, allowing the other side to win. Driven by desire and anger, new wars would immediately emerge. If I were to eliminate both sides, then my actions would be no different from the war itself," Wei Tianyang explained.
"I’m glad you’ve come to see that, Wei. So, you..." Helena Mina said.
"The sins of adults should be borne by adults. But children are innocent," Wei Tianyang said.
"What did you do?" Helena Mina asked.
"I saved a child... I followed my nature and my anger and rescued an orphan," Wei Tianyang said.
Helena Mina covered her mouth, then rubbed her face, her eyes somewhat red.
"My anger is real... Wars bring tragic consequences, but for soldiers, killing and being killed are their mission. For adults, it is their opinions that fuel politicians and soldiers, fanning the flames of war. Only children are innocent... I cannot tolerate those who torment children," Wei Tianyang said.
"You did the right thing, Wei. So, Yamian Country too? Was it also because of this?" Helena Mina asked.
"I saved a young woman from a group of insignificant swindlers, deceived by desire," Wei Tianyang said.
"Where are they now?" Helena Mina asked.
Wei Tianyang smiled and said, "They’re in the hotel; I can take care of them."
"It’s contradictory, Wei, your hotel shelters the scum of the earth, but you are saving those children," Helena Mina noted.
"Good and evil are human-made concepts; I don’t distinguish people by good or evil. If they can pay and haven’t angered me, they deserve to enjoy the services here," Wei Tianyang reasoned.
Helena Mina smiled; she was beginning to agree with Wei Tianyang.
Wei Tianyang was doing what those in high positions couldn’t.
Geopolitics, war threats, international relations... These man-made concepts solidify the world’s framework, constructing a certain order that vastly increases the cost of doing good and lowers the cost of doing evil.
Rulers can commit legal crimes because they make the laws.
Last year, the Sethiyan Federation passed a law that utterly wiped out the "corruption and bribery" among officials, decreeing that if officials accept money or goods after their tasks are completed, it is not considered bribery but merely a "political tip." Unless they use government financial accounts to spend money, if the money is transferred to other accounts before that, it’s not corruption but just a "financial transfer outside procedural norms."
Having been in politics for decades, she had seen plenty of such clever nomenclature, exalted and dignified, and in the past, she had taken these maneuvers for granted.
Humanity’s simplest emotions are covered layer by layer by man-made social rules, making people gradually seem unreal.
Wei Tianyang had the power to tear down those veils completely.
"I understand you, Wei," Helena Mina said.
"If you and the people behind you only wanted to ask this, I’ve given the answer, considering it’s for your sake," Wei Tianyang said, leaning back in his chair, legs crossed.
"One more question, Wei," Helena Mina said.
Wei Tianyang nodded, signaling her to ask.
"Will you still work with the United Council?" she asked cautiously.
"I don’t quite like the current Council Director," Wei Tianyang said.
