I Am Extraordinary Alone -
Chapter 443 - 441: Invitation
Chapter 443: Chapter 441: Invitation
Sethiyan Federation, Georgetown International Airport.
At 9 o’clock in the morning, Lin Yan arrived at the airport by car, along with a dozen or so foundation personnel, ready to welcome the arrival of an old acquaintance.
She was dressed in a dark brown blouse and white trousers, donning black high heels, and holding a creamy-white handbag. The several Caucasians accompanying her, both men and women, chatted with one another as they waited.
The white Sky People airliner landed on schedule, and before long, a stream of passengers poured into the terminal from the exit.
Professor Li Xianping, carrying a brown leather suitcase and draping a russet-colored suit jacket over his arm, looked slightly disheveled.
His hair was curly, and the sweat on his forehead had yet to be wiped away; his pale yellow shirt was also somewhat wrinkled.
"Professor!" Lin Yan, with sharp eyes, tiptoed and waved to Li Xianping.
Li Xianping gave a wry smile and walked towards her.
"Professor! Long time no see!" Lin Yan exclaimed.
The dozen or so Caucasians also greeted him.
"I’m Macbeth, and this is Ms. Stacy. We represent the Human Cradle Plan Foundation and welcome you to join us," Macbeth said.
"Join? I haven’t made my final decision yet," Professor Li responded.
"Professor Li has had a long journey. Let’s take you to the hotel we’ve arranged for you to rest a bit, and we can discuss things in detail later tonight," Stacy suggested with a smile.
Li Xianping adjusted his glasses and shook hands with the two of them, taking the opportunity to size them up.
Macbeth was in his early thirties, a typical Caucasian businessman, with blue eyes that shone with shrewdness and cunning. Stacy appeared slightly older, probably in her fifties, with red hair interspersed with white, wearing a pair of black-rimmed glasses, exuding an academic aura.
"Professor, let’s go to the hotel first," Lin Yan also suggested.
Li Xianping nodded and followed them out of the airport, into an SUV, and headed toward the hotel.
On the way, Lin Yan kept silent, and so did Li Xianping. He curled up in the back seat of the car, dozing off, and in a blink of an eye, the car brought them to the hotel’s entrance.
It had to be said, the foundation did indeed place great importance on his arrival, even booking a VIP room in a five-star hotel.
Professor Li entered the room and saw some Western pastries and some coffee prepared on the table. Without a moment to lose, he placed his suitcase by the door, walked eagerly to the table, and stuffed a sandwich into his mouth.
Lin Yan, standing at the doorway, whispered to Macbeth, "You guys go back first. I’ll have a word with the professor alone. He’ll agree."
Macbeth nodded, "Alright, Professor Li’s expertise in Black Medicine research is of great help to our current project."
Lin Yan said, "I know. I’m going to catch up with him first."
After bidding farewell, Macbeth left with the group.
Lin Yan closed the room door, and Professor Li Xianping sat on the bed, having eaten most of the food on the table already.
"Professor," Lin Yan said.
Li Xianping took a sip of coffee and sighed deeply.
"Lin Yan, how long have you been here?" he asked.
"Not very long. I didn’t expect that kind of incident to happen in Fengrao City after I left," Lin Yan replied.
"Not just Fengrao City, there’s been a lot of change in the country during this time," said Professor Li Xianping.
"Professor, you look very disheveled... I heard that the rescue operations in Fengrao City are progressing very slowly," said Lin Yan.
She sat down on a stool beside the table.
"I wasn’t in Fengrao City at the time, which I guess was lucky. But a few days later, Venerable Qin took power," Professor Li Xianping said.
"Venerable Qin... so, was that monster really the Emperor?" asked Lin Yan.
"She couldn’t wait to use Lingxian Sect’s immature technology and turned herself into a monster," said Professor Li Xianping.
"In the end... was it Wei Tianyang who dealt with her?" Lin Yan asked.
Professor Li Xianping shook his head and said, "He killed one monster but allowed another to roam free..."
Lin Yan didn’t know what had happened in Yin Country and asked, "What on earth is going on in the country?"
"It’s kind of a U-turn. The Foreign Affairs Bureau is gone, and many factions loyal to Zhao Ling are being purged. The country is currently undergoing a rectification campaign; it’s madness," Professor Li Xianping explained.
"What... did you go through before coming here?" Lin Yan asked.
"I escaped," Professor Li Xianping looked up and said.
"Ah?" Lin Yan was surprised and asked, "Why... did you have to escape? We in the scientific community don’t get involved in political matters."
"The things we hold in our hands can never be separate from politics. Venerable Qin didn’t see our value and felt she needed to use some extreme measures to assert her authority. Researchers, high-ranking military officers... and the domestic business community were all legislated and purged by her, many ended up in prison," said Professor Li Xianping.
"Black Medicine and the Superpower Special Department are our national deterrents; how could Venerable Qin see no value in them?" Lin Yan was somewhat astonished.
"Yin Country has undergone earth-shattering changes; I don’t know what the future holds. A few days ago, they were arresting people from the medical schools. Some old friends warned me, and I had a tough time getting out of the country," Professor Li Xianping sighed.
"What about... your family?" Lin Yan asked with concern.
"Don’t worry, they were abroad traveling last month. I called them and told them not to come back to the country for now," Professor Li Xianping said.
Lin Yan took a deep breath.
"This... Human Cradle Plan Foundation... what exactly is it about?" Professor Li Xianping asked.
"This organization brings together nearly all Western Black Medicine scholars and research institutions, backed by massive conglomerates. They lack neither technology nor resources or funding," Lin Yan said.
"It’s not serving the armies of the Western Alliance or the Sethiyan Federation, is it?" Professor Li Xianping asked.
"The foundation’s goals and vision far surpass national politics," said Lin Yan.
"What is their purpose? I am very concerned about this, especially after seeing what happened to the Emperor," Professor Li Xianping said.
"The Heavenly Falling Objects ought to be controlled. The world has been overflowing with Black Medicine and neutralizers in recent years; even drug traffickers have their own superpowered soldiers. The vision of the foundation is to have these things under unified control," Lin Yan said.
"That’s difficult, can this foundation really rise above nations? Do they have the capability to supervise global pharmaceutical companies and national superpower management agencies? Without overwhelming deterrence, these countries will not agree," Professor Li Xianping said.
"I’m not clear on how extensive the foundation’s backing is, but I’ve seen governors come to visit, and the House of Representatives has dined with the chairman. I think they might have connections with Wei Tianyang..." Lin Yan said.
"I saw the news that Wei Tianyang has disappeared... but I’ve also heard rumors that the Presidents of several major countries know where he is but don’t dare say," said Professor Li Xianping.
"Professor, join us, you have nowhere else to go anyway," Lin Yan said.
Professor Li Xianping bowed his head in thought, paused for a moment, and then said, "I’ll talk to them tonight and make a decision afterward; I don’t want to betray my country."
