I Am Extraordinary Alone
Chapter 438 - 436: The Portal

Chapter 438: Chapter 436: The Portal

a.m.

The fire in the woods had gradually extinguished, turning most of the forest into charred, barren wasteland.

Chen Ke and Li Zi trekked deeper into the forest, one dressed in a Victorian era overcoat, the other shamefully clad in S&M lingerie.

Despite their odd attire, Li Zi did not show any discomfort but walked unabashedly ahead.

The row of injection holes on her exposed back was too conspicuous, causing Chen Ke much concern.

He had once asked Diana about Spiritual Agents; they needed to inject a liquid into their spinal cords to serve as energy to use their superpowers, handle artifacts, but after a certain period, they must go to an internal hospital for drainage treatment.

Chen Ke realized that many things in the world he had crossed into were evolved from the real world.

The two hiked through the woods for most of the day, and by noon, under the scorching sun, they found a clearing to rest. Chen Ke took out some food and water for Li Zi.

Li Zi proved to be a soldier; her physical endurance was superb, and her weakness the night before was merely due to the intense use of her superpower.

She sat on a log, drenched in sweat, her long black hair draped over her back, gnawing on a large ham.

"Aren’t you going to eat anything?" Li Zi asked while eating and looking at Chen Ke.

"I don’t need to," Chen Ke said.

"You’re not even sweating!" Li Zi exclaimed in surprise.

"That’s my superpower," Chen Ke said.

"What kind of superpower is that?" Li Zi laughed.

"Superpowers are a burden," Chen Ke said with a smile.

"A burden? No, that’s strength," Li Zi said.

"Strength is a burden," Chen Ke said.

"Why say that? Strength is just strength," Li Zi said.

"Strength brings responsibility," Chen Ke said.

Li Zi shook her head, "Strength signifies freedom; with enough power, one can do whatever they please. In this world, only the weak bear responsibilities."

"That’s exactly how the world deteriorates. If those with the most ability and control over resources all thought like you do, life would be hard for everyone," Chen Ke said.

"You’re not from Tiantai Pharmaceutical," Li Zi said.

"Why do you say that?" Chen Ke asked with a smile.

"You’re not even from a pharmaceutical company; they wouldn’t think like that," Li Zi said.

"Then which side do you think I’m on?" Chen Ke said.

"I don’t know, but this air of mystery, Mr. Chen, is making me quite fond of you," Li Zi said with a smile.

"Wasn’t it enough that I saved you from the fire last night to make you a bit fond of me?" Chen Ke also responded with a smile.

"The fire was set by you, and you killed my people," Li Zi said.

"You were the one who struck first," Chen Ke said.

"But seriously... Mr. Chen, a person like you won’t last long in this world. You’re opposing the pharmaceutical companies and also the nations that want power. What you’re trying to burn, it’s important, and if you really do that, you’ll be pursued by the entire world," Li Zi said, shaking her head.

"You wouldn’t believe the things I’ve been through if I told you. There’s a long line of people wanting to kill me," Chen Ke said.

"Don’t be too arrogant... The power you demonstrated last night was just the tip of the iceberg; you haven’t seen the Trinity yet, have you?" Li Zi said.

Chen Ke had read about the classification of superpowers in the document, the triangle shape was the lowest level, but it was very powerful nonetheless. As for the Trinity, it was like the existence of a nuclear bomb, able to play a certain role in deterrence and balance.

"I know some about the Trinity... they wouldn’t easily take action, and moreover... I will leave after this matter is finished. They won’t be able to find me," Chen Ke said.

"If they want to find you, it would be a piece of cake. Unless they have some reservations," Li Zi said.

Chen Ke smiled and said, "Then let them try."

Li Zi finished the ham and drank up the mineral water, her belly somewhat bloated, her complexion much improved. They continued onward and arrived at another campsite at 1:30 in the afternoon.

This camp was made up of six green military tents, with leaves and dust piling up on them, and the ground showing traces of a hasty evacuation.

Chen Ke searched through the tents one by one, they were empty, and in a corner outside the tents, there were several polymer material crates stacked up, judging from the grooves inside, they seemed to contain some research equipment.

"This was our previous campsite, later, as it moved, we could only leave in a hurry," Li Zi said.

She walked around the campsite as if recalling the past events.

"Moved with it... what do you mean?" Chen Ke asked.

"That thing is alive, or rather... half-dead, it can still move. We previously captured its signals here and conducted the first period of research. I was responsible for protecting the research team," Li Zi explained.

She led Chen Ke through the camp, a small path had been cleared through the woods. They crossed it and came upon a cliff.

Suddenly, the view opened up, and at the deepest part of this forested valley, there was a depression the size of a soccer field, the lush deep green woodland under the blazing sun like an inky green lake. There was no wind, the woods were very quiet, and the flames had not reached this spot.

"Previously, it fell there," Li Zi said.

Chen Ke knew that when Heavenly Falling Objects fell, they wouldn’t physically impact the real world, as they would land in another dimension, but their power would leak out. Now that it had moved, Chen Ke had to find it.

"After walking half a day... it turns out it’s not here. So what are we doing here?" Chen Ke said.

"Without the research team and corresponding equipment, it is indeed difficult to find it, but our Superpower Special Department can enter objective reality to look for it," Li Zi said.

"Objective reality..." Chen Ke frowned. He had never heard of this... It wasn’t mentioned in the documents.

"But I don’t have the antidote, you should have brought some with you. Just leave a mark on the ground, and I’ll be able to meet you in objective reality," Li Zi said.

Chen Ke took out the large bottle Li Zi had used for an IV the night before; there was still a little bit of liquid in it.

"Ugh... don’t tell me you don’t have the antidote..." Li Zi said.

Chen Ke unscrewed the cap and sniffed it.

"What are you going to do?" Li Zi asked.

He tilted his head back and drank all the bit of medicine from the bottle.

A burst of bitter, sour and foul taste exploded in his mouth, like rotten fish that had decayed for a century.

He covered his mouth to prevent himself from vomiting, tilted his head back, but didn’t swallow, just holding the liquid in his mouth.

"Damn it!!! Spit it out!! That’s an injection antidote! It’s toxic if taken orally!!" Li Zi urgently warned.

Chen Ke waved his hand. He needed his body to absorb the liquid, then the mark on his chest would carry the information of this world, and thus, he could establish a teleportation door.

Chen Ke couldn’t swallow the liquid, because he essentially had no internal organs, and anything swallowed would vanish into thin air.

Luckily the liquid wasn’t much. He held it in his mouth, the taste gradually faded, and at this moment, the sun-shaped mark on his chest seemed to be spinning wildly.

"Done..." Chen Ke said.

Li Zi looked shocked and uneasy, with some curiosity.

"What’s done?" she asked.

Chen Ke didn’t speak, just snapped his fingers, and a red teleportation door whooshed into existence in front of them.
