I Am Extraordinary Alone
Chapter 417 - 415: Mother

Chapter 417: Chapter 415: Mother

Wang Ye sprinted through the wreckage of the factory with two soldiers, glancing at the map as he ran.

The armored convoy was six kilometers from them, and Class 12, which was surrounded, was two kilometers away, but thick smoke enveloped everything, reducing visibility at night. The flickering fire lights, both bright and dark, melded together, making it hard to discern any direction.

Along the way, he detoured to find the three soldiers who had promised to rescue his mother and discovered they were still alive. A slight joy filled his heart.

They took a long detour, and at that moment, his teammates stopped as they faintly heard gunfire.

It was the QBZ2077 automatic rifle, equipped with a suppressor, no doubt, it was Class 12’s.

He instructed his teammate to raise the drone higher. Through the lens, they saw hundreds of half-human, half-insect flying creatures, 720 meters ahead, besieging a factory.

"Damn it... There are only three of us, how are we supposed to support?" another teammate cursed upon seeing this.

Wang Ye first contacted a member of Class 12, a veteran of three years.

"I’ve located you on the map! Why did only three of you come? We need armored troops support!" said the veteran.

"Both armored vehicles and air force have been deployed to upper levels! I’m now your squad leader, we have to rely on ourselves to escape!" Wang Ye said.

"Damn! Easy for you to say, we’re surrounded, and you’re outside... but it’s not impossible! We’ve lost half our class outside, and some heavy equipment is out there too," the veteran said.

"What equipment do you have?" Wang Ye asked.

The veteran shared the equipment details of Class 12.

Wang Ye reviewed the list. Class 12 had a total of 11 people, 2 injured, 5 dead, and only four were combat-capable.

All four were assault troops equipped with QBZ2077 automatic rifles. Among the injured, one was a medic and the other a precision shooter, who had both lost their weapons.

The five who died outside included three anti-tank infantry and two technical soldiers, who had carried tripletube guns, drones, and light machine guns.

"I have a drone here; I can share the visual with you, but... those things aren’t easy to shoot with a rocket launcher. It would be nice if we had a flamethrower," Wang Ye said.

"We still haven’t gotten a good look at those things," said the veteran.

"I don’t know... It’s my first time seeing them. The upper body is a woman, the lower body a bug, with several pairs of wings. It looks really disgusting," Wang Ye said.

"Damn, and I thought they were just big bugs. Why didn’t the Superpower Special Department handle this?! They could’ve resolved this in minutes with all their firepower," the veteran queried.

"I’d like to know that too!" Wang Ye’s teammate interjected.

Wang Ye looked up. Sixteen fighter jets had already approached that massive creature. The sky erupted into a massive firestorm, the clouds vaporized by the heat, instantaneously turning day as bright as night.

Within this momentary brightness, the creature’s massive form became clear. It seemed like a squatting tiger, but undoubtedly humanoid in form, though only one side had arms. The other side burst open like a blooming flower, an irregular circular section exploded open, with a tail resembling that of a lizard. Two long necks bore the heads of a woman and a dragon.

Undoubtedly, the air force had used thermobaric bombs, and the explosion was well above the creature.

This barrage wasn’t targeted at the large creature but intended to clear the countless small insects in the air around it.

At that moment, through the drone’s footage, Wang Ye also observed that the flying insects besieging the factory seemed called by the large creature, halting their assault and flying upward.

"Now, hurry!" Wang Ye, leading two others, sprinted towards the factory, picking up some heavy weapons lying outside along the way.

The veteran slightly opened the factory door, letting Wang Ye’s two teammates enter first with the weapons. He then turned around and ran back to the open area, trying to drag the bodies of some dead soldiers inside.

Five corpses lay on the grass, all with claw injuries. Presumably, those creatures had swooped down invisibly and caught them off guard, as all the wounds were on their necks.

Wang Ye hoisted one body on his shoulder and dragged another with each hand, huffing and puffing, heading towards the factory. Seeing this, the veteran and the other two teammates came out to cover him.

He dragged three back, then turned to fetch the other two when a drone was suddenly grabbed by something. The camera flipped 180 degrees towards the sky, and a woman’s face appeared on the HUD.

It was an old woman’s face, her sclera now black, with buzzing wings behind her.

"Mom... Mom?" Wang Ye froze for a moment.

The veteran quickly rushed out and dragged him into the factory.

"Wait a minute!" Wang Ye wanted to go out, but right then, the insects flew back, and his teammates fired through the door gap, shooting down a dozen.

With a smack, Wang Ye lay down inside the factory. The veteran pushed the large iron door shut, and outside, the sounds of banging and scratching could be heard.

Wang Ye sat in front of the door staring blankly at it.

"You’re now our squad leader. You need to lead everyone out!" the veteran said, squatting in front of him.

He gasped heavily, his mind in chaos. Looking back, he saw two wounded soldiers leaning against the wall, their necks bandaged to stop the bleeding. Four glowing sticks spread on the ground provided light, illuminating a corner of the vast factory.

"I know what you saw! I saw my girlfriend too!" the veteran said.

He choked up briefly, then continued, "Those insects, I bet they’ve all transformed from the women in Fengrao City. Damn Emperor... what is she up to..."

Wang Ye roared, "I don’t believe it!! I don’t believe that’s the case!! That thing must have been transformed!!!"

"Stay calm, Yezi. Two of our brothers are injured, can you help out?" a teammate tried to calm him.

Wang Ye stood up, pacing back and forth, hands on his hips, eyes reddening, but he didn’t know what to say.

Why?! Why does my mother deserve this?! What did she do wrong?!

Just when life was getting better! He had saved quite a bit of money, always planning that in two years, after retiring, he’d use that money to open a shop in the middle district and live a stable life with his mother.

No more peddling on the streets, no more harassment from thugs.

Why did everything in Fengrao City change overnight...

Wang Ye let out a skyward howl, picked up the light machine gun, and was about to rush out.

Seeing this, the veteran quickly stepped forward to hold him back, loudly chastising, "You’re a fucking squad leader now! Do you even know what that means?!"

"I don’t understand!! I want to go out and kill them all!! Kill them all!!!!"

"Kill your fucking grandmother!! With what weapons are you going to kill them?!! You have responsibilities now!! Do you understand?!" the veteran yelled.

"What responsibilities!!! What responsibilities does the Emperor bear?!! What fucking responsibilities does the goddamn Third Institute bear!!!!!!!!" Wang Ye yelled back.

"If you keep talking like this... you need to be careful of being terminated..." another teammate also started to advise.
