Chapter 405: Chapter 403 The Witch Disappeared

May 2115.

The Pei Guode Hotel had been officially open for two years.

It quickly became a refuge for the wealthy.

To rent a room for one night costs 500,000 Langke, and for a VIP room, the price is five times that.

Nevertheless, rooms were still hard to book.

The hotel promised an impenetrable sanctuary, asserting that guests would never die there as long as they could pay.

Blood-money earners, assassins, politicians forming exile governments... all poured in.

Its owner was a mystery, no one considered Rada Gan to be the boss; they all knew who the real owner of the hotel was, but no one dared to utter the name.

Don’t even think about it.

Time never ceased, and the world never stopped hurtling towards death. The southern countries of the Eastern Zhou once again fell into war, leadership changes within Yin Country were frequent, and Zhao Ling had long been absent from the news.

In the Sethiyan Federation, Bideng was under investigation by the House of Representatives. Just two years after taking the seat of the head of government, his approval rating had plummeted below 20%. They were engaged in a trade war with Yin Country, and neither side gleaned any substantial benefits; the unemployment rates of both nations had climbed to 40%.

The Chicken Snake Country was at war again, the armies of the Western Alliance were in a protracted cold war with Loliya over buffer zone issues, and low-intensity hot conflicts in some small countries of Heisai State never ceased.

Eltoya seemed like a paradise exempt from the outside world, where wealthy individuals from warring nations flocked to immigrate, hiding within this sweltering city, occasionally staying for a few nights at the Pei Guode Hotel, and praying towards the top floor.

One afternoon, Baphomet was basking in the sun by the window.

Wei Tianyang closed a thick book and threw it on the table. He looked at Baphomet, who was curled into a big ball of black fur, thought for a long time, and suddenly said, "Damn it."

"What?" Baphomet moved its tail and replied.

"How come you’re still not dead?" Wei Tianyang asked.

Baphomet lifted its head to look at Wei Tianyang, not understanding what he meant for a moment.

"Aren’t sheep’s lifespans only around 10 years? When we met... I thought you were around six or seven years old? It’s been over four years now, and I haven’t seen you..." Wei Tianyang said.

"I am Baphomet, I am not a sheep," Baphomet stated.

Wei Tianyang rubbed his brow.

"Besides, my death wouldn’t be of any benefit to you," Baphomet added.

"Go to hell," Wei Tianyang said.

"Just admit it, horn-head. You have accepted me," Baphomet said.

"No, I haven’t," Wei Tianyang shook his head.

"You rescued me from Lilith’s clutches," Baphomet said again.

"At that time, I was protecting Yaha," Wei Tianyang said.

"It’s the same thing," Baphomet said.

"That’s not... " Wei Tianyang hadn’t finished speaking when Yaha entered the room.

She called out "Big Black Black" as she climbed onto Baphomet.

"Ah... it’s time for a walk again, aren’t you coming?" Baphomet stood up.

"Forget it," Wei Tianyang picked up another book.

Baphomet stuck out its tongue disdainfully toward the small table piled with thick books, "You won’t find what you’re looking for in those books."

Having said this, Baphomet carried Yaha out of the room.

He flipped through a few pages, didn’t read on, and then stood up, stretched, and paced back and forth.

Wei Tianyang looked at the aluminum can on the small cabinet, the lid spun off out of thin air, and coffee beans flew out, landing in the palm of his hand.

He tossed them into his mouth like candy and crunched them down noisily.

For some reason, Wei Tianyang’s caffeine intake needs kept increasing, and coffee alone could no longer satisfy him; only eating coffee beans could suppress a certain subtle discomfort within him.

Standing on the 28th floor, he looked down at the floor where his four crimson eyes saw through all that was hidden, clearly perceiving every movement of everyone in the hotel.

He did this suddenly because he had heard a familiar thought.

He saw Spencer entering the lobby again, going to the bar to order a cocktail, and then finding a corner spot against the wall to sit down.

Over the years, Spencer had come here more than once, and every time, he did the same, confident that Wei Tianyang could hear his voice.

"We meet again in this way, Wei. I hope you’ll seriously consider it this time," Spencer muttered to himself.

"Since you’ve been in hiding, a lot has changed in the world. The way wars are fought is different now, superpower users are on every street."

"And you’ve started a bad precedent; after hearing about what you did, many superpower users dream of becoming like you, gaining the favor of world leaders."

"You set a bad example and then hid away, watching coldly. I’m not here to blame you, I just want you to remember how we talked at the coffee stand in Azaha."

"Have you forgotten that greater purpose you sought? I think you’re not one to easily let go."

"I’ve created a foundation, far more powerful than any pharmaceutical alliance; we hope to enlist your help to properly unite humanity and superpowers."

Wei Tianyang paced the room, mulled over it for a long time, eyes downcast, and for the first time, he responded to Spencer.

"Those grand visions are meaningless, Spencer; nothing works, people just fight over trivial reasons and then die. Good people, bad people, what’s the difference?" he transmitted his voice.

He knew that nearly 80% of hotel guests deserved to die, but right now, he had no interest in being any sort of benevolent friend.

A man puts himself first when living in this world; these so-called bad people are merely taking advantage of even worse people’s rules to gain some advantage for themselves.

Wei Tianyang didn’t want to be sucked back into this logical vortex; the multifaceted and complex nature of humans also ensures that a person cannot simply be categorized as good or bad.

"Then let me be more practical," said Spencer, clearly prepared this time.

He took a sip of his cocktail and then said, "Fujiwara Makoto, you remember this girl don’t you?"

"Zhao Ling is taking care of her," Wei Tianyang said.

"No, she’s not in Yin Country. She’s been sent to a foundation called the ’Cradle of Humanity Project’," Spencer said.

"What does that foundation do?" Wei Tianyang asked.

"They believe that superpowers are sprawling out of control worldwide, so they’re dedicated to containing and controlling all the Heavenly Falling Objects," Spencer replied.

"That’s not realistic; the countries won’t let them do that," Wei Tianyang said.

"What if I told you that this foundation’s predecessor was the Dawn of Humanity? Containment and control are just excuses; they just want to monopolize, to return to those years when pharmaceutical companies were most flourishing," Spencer said.

Wei Tianyang clenched his fist and appeared in the seat opposite Spencer in an instant.

Spencer’s hand shook, and his drink splashed onto his lap.

"Where are they?" he asked.

"I have no intelligence; they’ve come to the forefront, so they must be thoroughly prepared. Perhaps they don’t have headquarters at all, but rather a loose alliance of companies, and their official institutions are all legal," Spencer said, pulling out a handkerchief to wipe off.

"How long ago was she sent there? Who sent her? Zhao Ling?" Wei Tianyang asked further.

"Zhao Ling? I know even less then," Spencer replied.

Wei Tianyang’s eyes started rolling, this issue stirring his emotions; he was determined to go to Yin Country and see for himself.
