Chapter 397: Chapter 395: I Can Provide Protection
At noon, Helena Mina got out of the car holding a shopping bag.
"Grandma! Do you need help?" the little girl called out, running along the path beside the lawn.
"If you can handle it," Helena Mina said with a laugh.
The little girl, about five years old and wearing a floral dress, took the heavy shopping bag from Helena Mina’s hand. The bag was taller than her, and an apple slipped out, rolling down the sloping path toward the street corner.
"Oh no!" the girl screamed.
"You’ll have one less apple to eat tonight," Helena Mina laughed.
At that moment, the apple rolled toward a pair of slightly icy white sneakers. A black hand picked it up.
Wei Tianyang, wearing a white shirt and blue jeans, stood there holding the red apple.
Helena Mina paused for a few seconds and then quickly said, "Nina, go inside and to your room."
"But don’t you need help?" Nina asked.
"Go inside now!" Helena Mina urged.
The little girl hopped into the house, and the two were silent on the street for a while.
"Aren’t you going to invite me in for a cup of coffee?" Wei Tianyang asked with a smile.
"Come in," she said.
Wei Tianyang walked up and helped Helena Mina with a shopping bag, following her into the house.
The villa was similar to Steijie’s, affordable for the middle class of the Federation: two stories, plus a small attic, a garage, and a yard.
Wei Tianyang sat at the table while Helena Mina poured beans into the electric coffee maker, standing with hands on her hips, waiting.
"I usually prefer to grind them by hand," Wei Tianyang said, miming the action of turning a handle.
"I’m old, I don’t have the strength for that anymore," Helena Mina laughed.
"Come on, you still look young. You barely look over forty from the outside," Wei Tianyang said.
"I didn’t think you were so good at making women happy," Helena Mina remarked.
"I’m telling the truth," Wei Tianyang replied.
"Then I should thank United Pharmaceuticals for their cosmetic technology," Helena Mina laughed.
The electric coffee maker quickly dripped coffee into the small porcelain cups.
She sat down with two cups of coffee at the table.
"Hmm, the beans are good," Wei Tianyang noted, sniffing the aroma and then taking a sip.
Helena Mina didn’t move, just stared at Wei Tianyang.
"Helena, it’s not what you think," Wei Tianyang said.
He seemed to hear Helena Mina’s inner voice; she was ready, thinking Wei Tianyang was there to kill her.
She wasn’t retired but had been dismissed.
Wei Tianyang put down his cup and asked seriously, "Why?"
"Why what?" Helena Mina countered.
"They dismissed you," Wei Tianyang said.
Helena Mina pursed her lips, remaining silent.
"Your entire house is surrounded by agents, there’s a tracker under your car, and a chunk of your waist was shaved off to implant a tracker. Why would they do this to you?" Wei Tianyang continued.
Helena Mina still said nothing.
Wei Tianyang shook his head, reached into the void, and pulled out about a dozen corpses, dropping them on her living room floor.
Helena Mina stood in shock, taking several steps back.
The bodies were agents from the intelligence service, dressed in black suits, black AR sunglasses, each with a silencer in their holster.
"Don’t worry, I didn’t let them bleed. I won’t dirty your floor," Wei Tianyang assured.
Helena Mina, a bit uneasy but trusting in Wei Tianyang’s ability, sat back down.
He banished the bodies into material reality and said, "I have blocked the electronic signals and even created an air wall. Tell me, why did they do this?"
"Because you lost control, Wei Tianyang. You are out of control..." Helena Mina said.
Her expression became fierce, but not directed at Wei Tianyang; she stared at the table, clenching her fists.
"A lot of people say that," Wei Tianyang noted.
"I had called you before, to inform you about Steijie’s assassination. They think I had ulterior motives," Helena Mina said.
"Those politicians are always so paranoid, as if everything and everyone should be under their control," Wei Tianyang sighed.
"During the time you didn’t respond, they conducted a political examination on me. The new governor of the Sethiyan Federation, Bideng, was not friendly to me; he knew about my personal dealings with Steijie... so, he suspected that I was using you for revenge," Helena Mina explained.
"Who killed Steijie?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"By this country, Wei Tianyang, this country killed him. It’s pointless for you to seek revenge for him; this country is beyond saving... Even if you kill all the cabinet members now, this country would still elect an identical government. That’s just the nature of Federation people—we won’t make any progress..." Helena Mina was visibly upset.
"Steijie did what he thought was right, and he had no regrets," Wei Tianyang stated.
"I’m glad to hear that..." Helena Mina said, pursing her lips, unable to hold back her tears as she looked out the window and wiped them away.
"I can provide protection," Wei Tianyang offered.
"Thank you, but you have done enough already. I know the steps you’ve taken to get to where you are today, the world owes you... You could have been... more free," Helena Mina said.
"Freedom... freedom is relative, and it’s a human-made concept. If there is freedom, then there is unfreedom. If humans are free, why is freedom called a right? Rights are only granted, and the universe doesn’t recognize the concept of rights," Wei Tianyang discussed.
Helena Mina didn’t understand, remained silent, looking at the changed man in front of her.
"This world is caught in endless wars because of human limitations. Humans live in reality yet only believe in the concepts they create for themselves..." Wei Tianyang continued.
"Look at me... I’m just an ordinary old woman now... There’s no benefit in you helping me; you kill a bunch of them, and they will send new people. They won’t stop," Helena Mina stated.
"I don’t think their way. Helena, I’ve been lost in memories recently, and I realized that among those I can remember, there aren’t many whose names I can call out... I respect the positions and ideas of Zhao Ling and Steijie, and I respect yours as well."
"I’ve already lost Steijie, I don’t want to let my memories become increasingly vacant. You will be very secure, I promise you. They won’t bother you again, trust me," Wei Tianyang assured.
He finished the remaining coffee and then walked out of the house.
Helena Mina stood in the door, watching him. He turned around, waved, and soared into the sky with a swoosh.
At that moment, she fell to the floor, her heart long unable to calm down.
