Chapter 35: Chapter 34 The Cost of War
Overnight had passed, and it was 6 a.m. in the clear morning.
Wei Tianyang was awakened from a dreamless sleep by a series of knocks on the door.
He got up to open the door, and there stood Yaha.
He was wearing a loose, gray silk robe and stood barefoot at the door. His white hair draped over his shoulders, a cup of coffee in his left hand, and his right hand absentmindedly playing with his orange-colored hair tips. The neckline revealed a large expanse of collarbone and a hint of cleavage.
Yaha’s eyes seemed blurred, having just woken up, and not quite spirited yet, the whole person resembling a lazy white fox.
"Follow me to the rooftop," Yaha said. Saying this, he dragged the hem of his robe and turned to leave barefoot.
Wei Tianyang quickly closed the door and followed closely behind.
Before, he had stealthily glanced at Yaha’s chest a few times but still couldn’t definitively determine Yaha’s gender, because there was indeed some cleavage, though not very deep.
Watching Yaha’s back, his posture and carriage had the elegance of a dignified woman, and he was genuinely worried about the robe slipping from Yaha’s smooth and fair skin.
The two reached the rooftop in silence, a cool breeze blowing. Yaha placed the mug on the table where the initiation ceremony had been held the night before, crossed arms over the chest, and the white strands of hair danced in the wind.
He pointed towards the gray horizon and said, "Look over there."
The sky was just beginning to grow light, and from the top floor of this hotel, the entire artificial forest was visible below; further off, the disorderly clusters of buildings from Kongse City lay like worms on the black soil, waiting to shed their skins.
And in the distance, there was an especially familiar gigantic structure standing in the gray morning mist.
Wei Tianyang squinted his eyes for a better look, finally recognizing it.
Although the building was very far from the hotel, he was certain from that vague outline that it was a massive construction for housing the Heavenly Falling Objects! It was similar to the one he had dismantled before.
"How far is that place from us?" Wei Tianyang asked, looking at Yaha.
He took a deep breath, seeming to finally wake from his half-dreaming state, and smiled, saying, "Don’t be in such a hurry. That place isn’t going anywhere." He turned his head to look at Wei Tianyang and continued, "There are five Heavenly Falling Objects within the territory of Chicken Snake Country. Tiantai Pharmaceutical controls three of them. Our first step for revenge is to liberate our brethren in those three towers."
Three towers? Wei Tianyang thought to himself that now there were probably only two left.
"We need a plan. We can’t just rush over there," he said.
He had been able to take down the Zero Nine One Reception Station previously due to many coincidental factors.
Firstly, he had launched an attack from within and had hundreds of Medicine People ghosts to aid him.
Secondly, Ruan Yu had made a wrong estimation of his capabilities and was caught off guard.
After that, although he had encountered other spirits multiple times, he found that not all of them were entirely willing to help him.
The refugees helped him out in dangerous situations, but also made their own requests.
And the Liberation Front even put forth an equal demand, willing to offer assistance only after he completed their last wishes.
This meant that even if those reception stations contained hundreds of spirits, like the Zero Nine One, they probably wouldn’t help unconditionally like Glasses Beast, Bai, Bald Uncle, and the strong men.
Because there were no ties between them.
Moreover, Ruan Yu had personally witnessed his strength. Would the remaining two reception stations increase their defense level? Even going so far as to transport the Heavenly Falling Objects away and designing the reception stations as traps, just waiting for him to fall into them...
Besides that, Wei Tianyang believed that the greatest uncertainty actually lay with Black House’s side.
Yaha and the rest of the half-finished ones’ abilities, had they also come under the control of Tiantai Pharmaceutical? After all, this small team had been formed for two years, and it was hard to imagine Tiantai Pharmaceutical ignoring Yaha completely.
Moreover, he was somewhat worried about Yaha’s so-called "connections."
"I, of course, know that, I never thought to take everyone head on," Yaha said with a smile.
"Precise decapitation, covert operations, that’s more realistic," Wei Tianyang nodded.
"My Ishmael, I knew you would think the same," Yaha turned to Wei Tianyang, a radiant smile appearing on his face as he straightened his long hair and continued, "Although we’ve gained power, it’s not complete. Don’t use it lightly unless absolutely necessary. Did you use the neutralizer I gave you yesterday?"
Neutralizer? Had he given one?
Wei Tianyang looked puzzled and said, "What neutralizer?"
Yaha’s eyes narrowed as he began talking to himself, arms crossed.
"Did I... forget? Yes! That’s right... I was supposed to give it to him... but then last night..." He muttered softly.
"I don’t need it for now," Wei Tianyang said.
"No! You could be in danger without it... I... I’ll give you a few later, take them with you, and go out with Starbucks at noon," Yaha said.
"What are we going to do?" he asked.
"Get guns, lots and lots of guns. Our superpower is the trump card, but most of the time, we still need bullets to solve problems," Yaha said.
With that, Yaha turned and left alone, leaving Wei Tianyang standing on the rooftop. The mug was still on the small table, half a cup of coffee remaining.
Truly absent-minded, Wei Tianyang shook his head.
At that moment, Li Bin, with a cigarette in his mouth, walked to the opposite side of the table.
He took a deep drag, then flicked the cigarette butt towards the skyline.
"Did you hear everything just now?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"You’re planning to take on that? We’ve never dealt with pharmaceutical companies before, but their armed forces are not to be trifled with. Push them too hard, and they’ll let loose all sorts of strange people," Li Bin said with a smile.
"Strange people? Like me?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"Can’t say for sure," Li Bin replied.
"How far can your activities stretch? Can you get over there?" Wei Tianyang looked at Li Bin.
He himself had not yet ascertained the operating range of these undead. The refugees had left the place of their death and traveled far, but the Medicine People could not leave Zero Nine One Reception Station.
If this guerrilla group could only move within this hotel, they would be useless to him.
Li Bin lit another cigarette for himself, silently staring at the distant town, deep in thought.
"You’re not telling me... you’ve just remembered that you can only run around inside the hotel..." Wei Tianyang said, concerned.
Li Bin held the cigarette between his fingers, exhaling a puff of smoke that only Wei Tianyang could see, and said, "You don’t understand, kid. The cruelty of revolution, the cost of war... you don’t understand."
"Just give me a straight answer, if you guys can’t leave the hotel, then I’m not helping," Wei Tianyang said.
Smoke billowed from Li Bin’s nostrils, and he said in a deep voice, "Our blood has flowed over every inch of the motherland!"
