I Am Extraordinary Alone -
Chapter 342 - 340: True Colors
Chapter 342: Chapter 340: True Colors
"You, a beast, what do you understand? As a human, isn’t it normal for me to pursue concepts created by humans? What you fell from the sky in search of, isn’t it also concepts made by those strange things up there?" Wei Tianyang retorted.
"Nay, nay, the grand narrative truly exists. It doesn’t change at the will of any inhabitants, nor does it waver due to different interpretations and understanding of those inhabitants. But the justice you pursue is not only a man-made concept, but also a relative one, shifting fundamentally with ethnicity, region, and political reasons."
Baphomet shook its head, continuing:
"I have spied into your memories... The first time you used His power, you killed everyone in a city. No, even before that, in order to eradicate what you deemed a bad government, you incidentally took the lives of many unrelated inhabitants. In another’s stead, you would have been sentenced to death by now, but you were not. You became an honored guest, gained your current status and treatment..."
As it spoke, Baphomet tilted its head towards him, seemingly in mockery, "So, it seems what you seek is not greater significance, but rather the things they now promise you. The justice and fairness you claimed to desire once, I’m afraid, have vanished into thin air in your mind, haven’t they?"
Wei Tianyang was momentarily at a loss for words and stood up to grasp Baphomet, but the creature darted away some ten meters.
It went on, "I don’t care what it is you truly want, but in the end, with such power, you should cast aside those man-made concepts to face absolute existence, to pursue absolute meaning! Leave your own Chapter behind! That is what you should seek! If you could do this, we too, could bask in your glory, leaving a small section, a sentence, a footnote in your Chapter!"
"Absolute meaning is justice!!" Wei Tianyang shouted angrily.
"No, I know everything about you, I know what your deepest desires are, I know your greatest regrets and pains. What you want is not justice, absolutely not..." Baphomet said.
Wei Tianyang’s eyes seemed to blaze; he felt his forehead splitting with pain, and resentment in his chest almost piercing through his lungs.
In an instant, he pounced on Baphomet, squeezing its goat body with his legs, his right hand gripping the goat’s horn, his left hand reaching down to clutch the black fur on its flank, and he growled fiercely, "If you spout more bullshit, I’ll rip you open, cut off your goat head, and hang it above my bedroom bed!"
Baphomet lay prostrate on the ground, yet this time it didn’t compromise and said, "Take a look at your own shadow. That is your true form! Human... How much longer will you play this role?"
By the moonlight, Wei Tianyang saw his own half-body shadow reflected on the grass. On his own head, a horn had grown.
"Dammit..." Wei Tianyang reached out to touch the grass and, at the same time, shook his head. That was indeed his own horn, just one.
He stretched his hand to touch his forehead, and his fingertips felt something hard.
"Motherf***er... Impossible..." Wei Tianyang rolled off the creature, sat cross-legged on the grass, and took out his phone to use the front camera to inspect his face.
He saw that protruding awkwardly under his black hair was a goat horn very similar to that of Baphomet. It was about an inch long, thick at the base, tapering towards the tip, which pointed forward after two bends; around the horn, there were rings of fine lines.
Lifting the hair away, he saw that the area where the horn’s base connected to his right forehead had also become discoloured and hardened, transformed into a tough shell.
He tilted his head up slightly, his face full of shock. In his eye sockets were four blood-red eyes, their pupils like the black spots of the sun, eerie and horrifying.
He snapped a photo, then slowly calmed down. The horn slowly retracted into his forehead, and the four eyes merged back into two, resuming their normal black color.
The demon...
"This is what you look like, Yishenmali. You are the sun, not a star," Baphomet said.
Wei Tianyang was speechless. He rarely saw what he looked like when he was angry or using his abilities. He looked at the selfie again but felt utterly foreign. Every time he killed, did he wear this demonic face?
"You finally understand, don’t you? You’re completely different from those people; you possess Him, rather than simply borrowing His power," Baphomet said.
"What I become is not important, it is I who am important. I know what I want, and you, you beast, stop trying to provoke and bewitch me with your words," Wei Tianyang said.
"I just don’t want to see you do meaningless things, deceiving yourself. This Chapter has so many inhabitants, you have so many potential followers, you could elevate this Chapter, make it part of a great narrative, and you should," Baphomet said.
Wei Tianyang did not respond to him. He looked at his wristwatch; the four-man squad had been inside for 10 minutes, and the area around the factory was still quiet.
He activated his quadruple vision again to observe the situation there. His super vision allowed him to zoom in on distant objects and also to see through walls to detect heat sources.
After scanning the area several times, he finally noticed something suspicious; the four men had reached the factory’s production workshop, where a large group of workers were busily producing black neutralizers during overtime.
Under the influence of Wei Tianyang’s silence ability, some of the semi-finished products that relied on memes to stay invisible had already been taken out.
He was somewhat skeptical. The squad of only four had to infiltrate such a massive factory and complete three missions simultaneously; could they manage it?
As he pondered this, his phone received a voice connection through an encrypted frequency. He flipped it open and saw it was the United Council Allied Forces’ frequency.
"This is Honey Badger, contact code 441, 37138," said the voice on the other end.
"2121, this is Moby Dick, go ahead," Wei Tianyang replied.
"I’m Jissbon, the commander-in-chief of the United Council Allied Forces. Are you free right now?" Jissbon asked.
"I am currently on another mission," Wei Tianyang replied.
"I know you’re busy, but I’d still like you to take a few minutes," Jissbon said.
Wei Tianyang glanced at his watch. A few minutes...
"What is it?" he asked.
"Six of our Ranger squads were attacked by terrorists half an hour ago in Mahede City and are now trapped in the city center, which has become a hot zone. We’ve detected from satellite radar that the enemy has probably dispatched about two thousand troops. That city might well have become their stronghold," Jissbon explained.
"Mahede City, 120 kilometers away from me... How many of you are trapped?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"About eighty people; they are being slaughtered, and some have already been captured alive. They have the Superpower Special Forces, and our men can’t get close," Jissbon replied.
To avoid a conflict of interest, the United Council had not sent the Superpower Special Forces for this military operation; only he was dispatched, and now they were naturally at a disadvantage.
But if he left now, those four penetrators into the factory would be in danger...
Wei Tianyang sighed, turned to Baphomet and said, "You go to that city, right now, immediately."
Baphomet seemed reluctant but complied obediently, cutting through into objective reality and jogging ahead.
Wei Tianyang looked towards the factory and clenched his fist.
