I Am Extraordinary Alone -
Chapter 270 - 268 I Found It
Chapter 270: Chapter 268 I Found It
Wei Tianyang extracted himself from the segment of memory, looking at Chen Ran before him, he was reminded of Fogen’s smug face, fury welling up within him.
He couldn’t wait to invade another piece of memory.
At this moment, he was still masquerading as Chen Ran, ambling alongside a middle-aged woman in a black evening gown in a corridor resembling an art gallery.
Oil paintings adorned the walls on either side of the hallway, the warm yellow lighting and the soothing classical music, played at just the right volume, created an atmosphere rich in mood.
"Lusimin’s experiment has spiraled out of control, Fujiwara Makoto has confirmed her escape, but Fogen deployed the army early, so she is momentarily still in the city," the middle-aged woman said.
"Fogen has taken a risky step, and Human Dawn has patience too; under the current circumstances, they are still not intervening, waiting for the results of that experiment," Chen Ran said.
"Hmph... Reincarnation, how can it compare to immortality? The next stage of humanity is a nonsensical notion. Just a bunch of science-mad fools. We have our mission to complete, the Overlord is essential," the middle-aged woman said.
"The Overlord... will he come too?" Chen Ran asked.
"To control the situation, Fogen has gone to Yin Country; his purpose there can only be to seek the Overlord’s help," the middle-aged woman said.
"Is he trying to bypass the United Council?" Chen Ran asked.
"Exactly, given that this matter involves us and there is significant public pressure, if he wants to continue being President, he must tread dangerously and resolve the issue in a more extreme way," the middle-aged woman said with a laugh.
"Does he want the Overlord to replicate the disaster of Wuliang City in Chicken Snake Country in Lusimin? Hmph, it does fit the political thinking," Chen Ran said.
"Zhao Ling is becoming more and more disobedient, if the Overlord really shows up in Lusimin, we might as well take advantage of the situation, use Fogen’s plan to take down the Overlord," the middle-aged woman said.
"I am willing to go," Chen Ran said.
"Be wary of Zhao Ling, she borrowed power from us but broke her promise. Now, she views the Overlord as a tool to break away from us, which is intolerable. If the Overlord appears, there’s no way Zhao Ling will stand idly by," the middle-aged woman said.
The two stopped in front of the corridor’s grand entrance and fell silent for a moment.
"Fujiwara Makoto is a threat, the Overlord is power, and Zhao Ling is a hindrance. All three must be dealt with. Understand?" the middle-aged woman said.
Chen Ran stood firm, bowed slightly to the woman, and said, "Your will be done."
Then, Chen Ran left the corridor, pushed open the mahogany gate, and arrived at a vast helipad.
The sky was pitch-black, and in the distance, a sliver of golden sunshine peeked over the arc of the Earth’s horizon.
Several heavy four-winged flying machines were secured to the ground, as platoons of soldiers clad in powered armor walked past him.
Chen Ran looked up, the stars in space seemed within reach, the fluid protective dome overhead occasionally shimmered with hexagonal golden matrices. Giant solar panel wings extended from the platform beneath his feet, and in the distance, a few people in white space suits were spacewalking.
Chen Ran climbed into the flying machine, donned a breathing mask, and with a slight vibration, the aircraft lifted off the pad, shot through the shield, and glided into the atmospheric orbit following the curve.
Wei Tianyang pulled away from this stream of memory, returning to reality.
He didn’t speak, but his face was a picture of shock. This ancestral home of the Lingxian Sect, was it a space station? And from what he could tell, the technological level of the Lingxian Sect had far surpassed that of any major nation on Earth.
Wei Tianyang stood up and dropped Chen Ran onto the ground.
He didn’t share this with Zhao Ling, as it was to protect his secret ability to read others’ memories.
Chen Ran lay on the ground, eyes full of resentment, while Zhao Ling’s eyes whirled about, as if she was pondering something.
"I told you, he wouldn’t spill. Torture is useless too, people like him have been professionally trained. If he were such a weakling, the Lingxian Sect wouldn’t have sent him down," Zhao Ling said.
Wei Tianyang nodded, then watched as Chen Ran slowly sank into the ground, the rubble and mud pouring into the holes of his body, filling them up.
"So, I presume all those people he brought have gone... You buried them all alive, didn’t you?" Zhao Ling said with a laugh.
"Not all of them..." Wei Tianyang turned around and pointed at the metallic spheres on the ground.
"Those are... people?" Zhao Ling asked, puzzled.
"They were in their powered armors, I took them out first thing, those equipment are tricky, they need to be dealt with priority," Wei Tianyang said.
As he spoke, he kept an eye on Chen Ran’s condition, controlling the earth to compress his soft flesh. Rumbling sounds emanated from underground, Wei Tianyang could feel Chen Ran’s muscles and bones screaming, his organs crushed like balloons, his death was slow and agonizing.
Swirls of black vapor seeped out of the ground, all of which were absorbed into Wei Tianyang’s right arm, making him feel more spirited, and he also sensed a newfound power.
The power that silenced all superpowers.
At that moment, the black SUV disappeared, and Fujiwara Makoto stood in place, looking freshly awakened and turned her gaze to Wei Tianyang.
"Successful?" she asked.
Wei Tianyang nodded with a smile.
"It seems the illusory versions of you I created are quite convincing!" Fujiwara Makoto said with a laugh.
"How did you know they would ambush us?" Zhao Ling was still a bit puzzled.
Rewinding to half an hour ago.
Wei Tianyang was driving when suddenly, he seemed to realize something, he hit the brakes and urged the two to get out of the car.
After that, he had Fujiwara Makoto use all of her spiritual power to create Illusion Creations of their three doppelgängers, and then they got into the car and drove forward.
At the time, Zhao Ling and Fujiwara Makoto were not clear on why he was doing this, but based on Wei Tianyang’s abilities and judgment, they trusted him unconditionally.
It turned out his judgment was correct, but also unreasonable.
"I had a premonition, that’s all," Wei Tianyang said.
He didn’t know how to explain.
He had an experience, feeling that the three of them had genuinely been in a car accident, and felt the pain of being stabbed to death by Chen Ran, as if he had also witnessed Zhao Ling being tortured to death.
This experience had no imagery and no sound, but he felt it was a part of what he had gone through.
He couldn’t explain it and could only put it off temporarily.
But Wei Tianyang was certain that he had seen the text written against a black background; he knew those things had told him the direction the story would go.
He wanted to see it again but could find no way to do so.
"I don’t believe it, your timing is too precise. We got out of the car, made the switch, and only half an hour later, something really happened," Zhao Ling shook her head.
"Let’s just consider it a coincidence. This world has superpowers, after all. It’s not surprising that this kind of thing would happen," Wei Tianyang gave a slight smile.
Zhao Ling’s phone rang just in time, a call from Venerable Xu.
"Fogen has already sent us a secret letter, informing us that in 5 minutes they will launch a nuclear missile at their own territory... Zhao Ling! Is there any way you can get away?!" Venerable Xu said urgently.
"5 minutes...?" Zhao Ling was stunned.
She had her phone on speaker, so Wei Tianyang and Fujiwara Makoto could hear as well.
Zhao Ling ended the call and looked at Fujiwara Makoto, "Turn into a helicopter!"
"That’s not enough time... 5 minutes... at best we could only fly out not even 2 kilometers..." Fujiwara Makoto was panicked.
After a nuclear explosion, to be unscathed without any protection, one would need to be at least 10 kilometers away from the blast center; if Fogen used a larger yield nuclear missile, a safe distance might be 20 kilometers.
In 5 minutes, even transforming into a fighter jet wouldn’t cover 10 kilometers.
"And... I’m already... too weak, I can’t create an Illusion Creation anymore." Fujiwara Makoto shook her head, tears swirling in her eyes.
"It’s okay," Zhao Ling said.
[Useless thing...]
Wei Tianyang heard Zhao Ling’s thought.
She seemed to relax all of a sudden, looking pityingly at Fujiwara Makoto before saying to Wei Tianyang, "Right, I remember you said she can’t enter objective reality, right?"
Wei Tianyang nodded.
This Witch from Churi Country seemed to be repelled by objective reality and could only stay in subjective reality.
As long as they escaped into objective reality, they could go anywhere they wanted, but they could no longer take Fujiwara Makoto with them.
"It was nice meeting you, Makoto. We’ll stay with you until the end," Zhao Ling said.
[It’s a pity we can’t take her back, but that’s just how it is.]
Wei Tianyang looked at Zhao Ling with an indifferent face and couldn’t help but sigh.
He had another plan.
A million people lived in this city, and today, because of him, they would die under their country’s own nuclear assault.
This shouldn’t be.
He had absorbed the power of the Sky Curtain, and now he had to assume the Sky Curtain’s mission.
Wei Tianyang said, "I’m going to the city center."
"What are you going to do there?!" Zhao Ling was startled.
"If I can succeed... no one will die," Wei Tianyang said.
Zhao Ling could tell from his eyes and expression that his mind was made up.
"Don’t do this... Yang, this isn’t the time to play the hero. Without you, I can’t freely traverse objective reality, and I’ll just have to go back to square one," Zhao Ling held his hand and softly tried to convince him.
"The greater meaning I’ve been searching for... it’s all here, it’s all right here, Zhao Ling. I’ve figured it out now..."
"This world is a mess, but I want to prove that even so, there will always be those trying to make it a little better."
"That’s the greater meaning," Wei Tianyang said.
