Chapter 264 - 262: Tank Breakthrough
Chapter 264: Chapter 262: Tank Breakthrough
The pink tank, singing songs, rolled over two parked sedans on the street and had already broken through the first encirclement of the Libitelli Army.
But the firepower on the outskirts was even more ferocious. Infantry hiding in the buildings fired rockets at them. Because they were in an open area, their tank became a moving target. Six rockets hit the turret and side skirts, shaking the cabin like an earthquake.
"They’re hiding in the residential buildings!" Zhao Ling raged.
Killing soldiers was one thing, but if there were civilians in those buildings, she’d be facing a military tribunal for her actions.
Wei Tianyang was also frustrated—he lacked observers and drone support. Relying only on the screen in front of him, he couldn’t figure out how many people were hiding and shooting at them.
He turned to look at Fujiwara Makoto and saw the girl with a nosebleed, curled up in the corner, shivering.
"We can’t take another hit! Makoto can’t hold on much longer." Wei Tianyang shouted at Zhao Ling.
"The rocketeers are in the civilian buildings!" Zhao Ling shouted back.
Wei Tianyang’s eyes rolled left and right, understanding Zhao Ling’s implication.
"Fire the cannon. Put it on my tab. I’ve already killed a million; a few more zeros won’t matter," Wei Tianyang said.
Zhao Ling looked down grimly and pulled the lever.
The shell flew swiftly, less than a second after the sound was heard, Wei Tianyang saw on the screen a large hole blasted in the apartment on the right. The concrete wall was exposed, smoke billowed out, and flames rose inside.
"Is this really okay...?" Fujiwara Makoto’s voice was weak, but she still showed concern.
After all, attacking civilian buildings was different from engaging with the military.
"People like us will face retribution. Before that happens, we need to survive," Wei Tianyang said.
Zhao Ling operated the turret, aimed at another apartment building, and fired twice in quick succession. Half the building became thousands of pieces of brick, and Wei Tianyang could even see severed human thighs, spilling blood in mid-air, not knowing if they belonged to civilians or soldiers.
Next, an armored gun carrier came out from the street in front, no hesitation, two armor-piercing rounds struck the tank’s frontal armor. Wei Tianyang leaned back, nearly breaking his neck, and Zhao Ling shook off from her position at the gun, her forehead reddening significantly.
Grasping the handle to sit back up, he looked back at Fujiwara Makoto; her eyes were squinting, saliva dripping from her mouth, blood and tears streaming down, trembling violently in the cabin.
"Hang in there!" Wei Tianyang patted Fujiwara Makoto and roared at Zhao Ling, "Get back into position!! Blast them with the cannon!"
Zhao Ling was still in shock but climbed back up on instinct and took her place at the gunner’s seat.
Wei Tianyang floored the accelerator, and at the same time, turned the steering as far to the right as possible, maneuvering the tank behind the apartment building. The armored gun carrier fired two more armor-piercing rounds, but fortunately, they were quick to evade, watching the second-floor wall of the apartment crumble to rubble, narrowly escaping damage.
The tank’s cabin was now unbearably hot. Wei Tianyang was drenched in sweat. He ripped open his collar for relief, his chest already slick, but suddenly felt a thick coat thrown over his head. Looking up, he saw Zhao Ling too hot to bear, having shed her coat and shirt, only wearing a purple lace bra, her body glistening with sweat, her toned and fit figure as if soaked in oil.
"Circle around to their back, the armor is thinnest there," Zhao Ling said.
Wei Tianyang acknowledged with a response and turned back to look at Fujiwara Makoto; she had wiped the saliva from her mouth and was enduring with her eyes closed.
Although the tank had been attacked, it seemed there was no sign of damage—a sign, Wei Tianyang guessed, that things created by Fujiwara Makoto wouldn’t show signs of damage but would simply disintegrate when they couldn’t be sustained any longer.
He needed to resolve the battle quickly, while Fujiwara Makoto was still able to maintain the illusion.
The tank charged brutally, breaking through a corner wall, crushing the greenery and reaching the other side of the building. At that moment, the roar of fighter jets came from the sky.
"Fighter jets," Wei Tianyang alerted.
"Don’t get distracted! Reverse and forward," Zhao Ling barked.
Wei Tianyang looked at the apartment building in front of him, turned the steering wheel, and floored the accelerator. The tank spun on the spot, crashing into the first floor of the building.
They smashed through several walls and emerged on the other side, onto the street. At this moment, the armored gun carrier had just passed by them, preparing to maneuver around the apartment to intercept.
The tank spun in place, instantly aligning its barrel with the rear of the armored vehicle.
Zhao Ling smirked and pulled the lever. With a loud bang, the armored car in front of them was transformed into a pile of scrap, spewing out black smoke and flames.
Seconds later, the driver’s hatch of the armored vehicle popped open. Four soldiers, aflame, stumbled out of the vehicle and crawled towards the curb.
Wei Tianyang stepped on the accelerator, crushing over their bodies. The roar of the tank’s engine drowned out the sound of bones and flesh being crushed, but the stench of blood still seeped through the armor and into his right arm.
"Without superpowers, we are not anyone’s easy prey!" Zhao Ling declared.
"Did you hear the sound of the fighter jets just now?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"Heard them, two of them, flying low. They must be heavy fighters," Zhao Ling said.
"I think Fogen is running out of patience," Wei Tianyang said.
"So are we," Zhao Ling said.
Wei Tianyang activated the screen, wanting to check the offline map, but the tank’s platform system was incomplete; apart from the external mirrors, nothing else could be activated.
He quickly realized that Fujiwara Makoto had never operated a tank before and didn’t know how a real tank functioned. Therefore, what she didn’t know, she could only imagine, and if she couldn’t imagine, she had to leave it blank.
It was certainly Illusion Creation, disregarding reality and logic; the tank’s movement was entirely sustained by her spiritual power.
During his musings, another burst of dust and debris exploded from the apartment building. The same two tanks they had seen previously were closing in from behind on Wei Tianyang and Zhao Ling.
"Let’s deal with them before we run," Zhao Ling said.
Without a word, Wei Tianyang maneuvered the pink tank behind the building, ready to launch into another round of intense tank combat.
Meanwhile, on the outskirts of Lusimin City, 10 kilometers away.
Four tanks and six armored personnel carriers were stationed on either side of the highway leaving the city. A battle formation of 200 power-armor-clad heavy infantry spread out on both sides of the position, each with an anti-vehicle Gatling gun mounted on their right arms.
Behind the positions, there was an elongated container truck and an SUV.
A man in his thirties, dressed in a dark blue suit, was standing next to the SUV, his eyes shimmering with a golden brilliance.
He had a high nose bridge, short and neat hair, exuding an aura of natural authority. He was Chen Ran, the man known as the Heavenly Emperor within the Lingxian Sect.
Behind Chen Ran followed two young men wearing jewel-blue Taoist robes, both appearing to be just over twenty.
Their outfits were overly deliberate; on their first arrival, they had drawn sidelong glances from officials of the Libitelli Government.
"Where are they now?" Chen Ran asked.
A young man handed over a tablet computer, saying, "Your Excellency, the two are still in the urban area, 9 kilometers away from here."
"It won’t be long now, have the medical team ready," Chen Ran instructed.
The young man bowed and headed towards the container truck.
Chen Ran’s presence signified the Lingxian Sect had made up its mind; Wei Tianyang, Zhao Ling, and the Witch from Churi Country, all had to be brought back.
He had brought a full medical team, waiting to kill the three and extract their spines on the spot to take back to the Lingxian Sect.
This mission’s performance was especially critical. The sect master had promised that the Black Medicine developed from Wei Tianyang’s spine would be awarded to him upon success.
After a while, his phone rang suddenly. It was the sect master calling.
"Fogen has decided to launch a nuclear strike on Lusimin; you don’t have much time. Are you determined?" the deep female voice asked.
After thinking for two seconds, Chen Ran said, "When do they plan to carry out the strike?"
"The nuclear launch button is not in Fogen’s hands; he’s in the Sethiyan Federation. Entering the launch process will take some time," the woman said.
"That will be sufficient," Chen Ran replied confidently.
"Do you have the confidence to capture Zhao Ling alive? She’s too disobedient and even dares to disrupt our decades of planning, giving Venerable Qin and Li Ruyun a hard time... I plan to... meet her," the woman said with a laugh.
"It’s as good as done," Chen Ran respectfully said.
"With the nuclear bomb falling, destruction will be widespread; even your superpower won’t save you. Are you sure you have enough time? You can retreat now, after all, there will be other chances. However, next time, Wei Tianyang’s power will not be promised to you," the woman stated with a chuckle.
"This time, I will bring back both spines and that contemptible woman!" Chen Ran said.
"Good, go on," the woman said with a laugh.
As soon as the conversation ended, the phone was hung up.
Chen Ran clenched his fists, aware that the sect master was pressuring him.
"Such power in his hands is a sheer waste; it should belong to the right person... Wei Tianyang... should have died in Chicken Snake Country long ago. Today, his head shall fall!" Chen Ran declared firmly.
