Chapter 261: Chapter 259 Heavenly Emperor
Wei Tianyang found it hard to doubt Zhao Ling’s assertions. He wasn’t familiar with the Lingxian Sect or Hasegawa Pharmaceutical, but it sounded like something they were capable of.
Through the probing of memories, Wei Tianyang also confirmed that Fujiwara Makoto had indeed been toyed with by government agency personnel in the past.
"It seems a bit inefficient to establish a superpower special forces through childbirth..." Wei Tianyang sighed.
Zhao Ling snorted and said,
"The people of the Lingxian Sect think differently than you. If the child she bears can indeed inherit the superpower gene, they would not hesitate to use her as a breeding machine, pushing her until death."
"All newborns will have their infancy shortened to within three months through technical means, and their life spans are designed to be under 20 years."
"At the age of 10, boys start receiving military training, and by 16, they become their soldiers. And the girls? Once they reach physiological maturity and their uteruses become usable, they will replace the by-then deceased Fujiwara Makoto and continue to bear children."
"This is a cycle that has been designed; they thus have a continuous supply of soldiers who inherently possess superpowers and require no antidotes or Black Medicine. This is exactly what they want."
Wei Tianyang looked at Fujiwara Makoto, who had already listened dazedly, evidently never having anticipated such a fate for herself.
"You speak with such detail... it wouldn’t be your own idea, would it?" Wei Tianyang then looked at Zhao Ling, unable to suppress his suspicion.
"Stop joking. I’ve dealt with the Lingxian Sect too, and I’ve told you, they aim for the restoration of a feudal dynasty. In that era, women were nothing more than reproductive tools and playthings, lowly regarded, less valued than even rice," Zhao Ling said.
"Damn, what a world... I thought the chaos in Chicken Snake Country was just because it was a poor place. But once I got out, I realized there are disgusting organizations and people everywhere in the world," Wei Tianyang shook his head and sighed.
"I had wanted you to help me eradicate all remnants of the former dynasty in the cabinet, but you refused," Zhao Ling crossed her arms and shook her head.
"Give me a list," Wei Tianyang said helplessly.
By the time their conversation finished, it was nearly 3 PM. Fujiwara Makoto and Wei Tianyang were now under close surveillance, and it wasn’t easy for Zhao Ling to get them out of Libitelli.
Moreover, the incident in Lusimin City had greatly displeased the Fogen Government, so more military forces were deployed at the borders and the suburban areas of the cities.
Not to mention that both the Lingxian Sect and the Human Dawn Organization had planted spies here, Wei Tianyang didn’t even know how Zhao Ling had gotten in.
Due to the communication breakdown across the city area, once Zhao Ling entered the city, she couldn’t contact domestic forces through satellite phone; the network here was completely controlled by the government, only allowing access to specific TV channels, radio stations, and internet contents.
Even in this situation, Wei Tianyang and Zhao Ling didn’t feel much urgency.
Their abilities made leaving the city no challenge, and now with the ’little witch’ Fujiwara Makoto recovered in spirit, the three of them combined could not just leave the city but wreak havoc.
However, Zhao Ling represented Yin Country and Wei Tianyang represented the United Council; the current situation had gotten very tense. Acting rashly to kill now would truly trigger an international political earthquake. Libitelli, which represented Western Alliance powers, would have no choice but to sever ties with Yin Country, halt diplomacy, and put rivalry in economic and military terms in stark relief, compelling Sethiyan Federation and Heisai State countries to take sides.
This was where the problem lay.
The Libitelli Government had been infiltrated by the Human Dawn Organization, and people from the Lingxian Sect were also here; they wouldn’t let Fujiwara Makoto go.
As the three pondered their options, Zhao Ling’s phone suddenly rang with a monotonous beep.
She picked up her phone and walked to the window to answer the call.
"Zhao Ling," a middle-aged man’s voice came from the other end.
"It’s you again," Zhao Ling said sternly.
"It’s time to let go. We’ve given you plenty of time, tolerating your little maneuvers under our noses, for far too long," the man said.
"Don’t talk as if I really care about your opinions," Zhao Ling retorted.
"No matter how you change the state system, it always heads towards the same outcome. What we want, you have never given us," the man continued.
"If you called just to say this, I’m hanging up," Zhao Ling said.
"I’m just here to remind you, everyone knows where you are and who you’re with. We apply a little pressure, and you’ll have to face a sea of public opinion. Do you really think Yin Country belongs to you?" the man said.
"Nor is it yours!" Zhao Ling retorted angrily.
"We helped you gain it, now we just need you to fulfill your promise. Libitelli’s forces have already surrounded you; leave behind Wei Tianyang and the girl from Japan, and you can return to continue as the Emperor," the man said.
"What if I refuse?" Zhao Ling asked.
"Don’t think that Wei Tianyang is so great. We’ve lived for centuries, what kind of people haven’t we seen? If it really comes to that, I’ll take action personally. By then, not only will you lose your throne as the Emperor, but you’ll also lose much more..." the man said.
Zhao Ling remained silent, clenching her fists so tightly that nails dug into her palms.
"Look out the window. Those forces might not mean much to you, but what I want is your reaction, Zhao Ling, think carefully about your next move. I’m watching," the man said.
The call ended with a busy tone. Zhao Ling hung up her phone and lightly pulled back the curtain to see four tanks parked on the street, many infantry hiding at the base of walls, and two armed helicopters flying overhead.
She turned and looked at Wei Tianyang sitting at the table.
"It’s quite lively outside..." Wei Tianyang said.
"The Lingxian Sect called me," Zhao Ling said.
"I heard. It doesn’t matter, those forces are meaningless," Wei Tianyang said.
"They’re not a challenge; they’re a signal... The people above are waiting for us to react," Zhao Ling said helplessly.
"Who is that man? I can hear the fear in your voice, Zhao Ling, you’ve never been like this before," Wei Tianyang said.
"The man from the Lingxian Sect with the codename Heavenly Emperor, Chen Ran," Zhao Ling said.
"Heavenly Emperor? You’re afraid of him? Why?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"He’s not easy to deal with, Wei, he really isn’t... He’s one of the ultimate reasons why the Lingxian Sect can dominate the world, a man who surpasses the Trinity," Zhao Ling said.
"What’s his superpower?" Wei Tianyang curiously asked.
"When you are near him, he can nullify your superpowers... the exact distance, I don’t know, I couldn’t possibly know. Those who dared to try are all dead," Zhao Ling said.
"Is this power also brought by the Heavenly Falling Objects?" Wei Tianyang was taken aback.
Zhao Ling nodded.
This was the first time Wei Tianyang felt threatened. If Chen Ran’s ability range was large enough, say, similar to Fujiwara Makoto’s range, it would be invincible... an absolute suppressor for superpower special forces...
