I Am Extraordinary Alone -
Chapter 205 - 203: Spencer’s Nemesis
Chapter 205: Chapter 203: Spencer’s Nemesis
Seychelles waters.
Clear skies stretched for miles, the blazing sun scorched ruthlessly, and the ocean sprawled endlessly before their eyes.
After three days of sailing, the Nantakayte had finally reached these waters. It was Wei Tianyang’s first time sailing on a long voyage, and his body was somewhat unaccustomed, having narrowly avoided seasickness and vomiting the night before. But fortunately, the sea had been very calm over the past few days, preventing any aggravation of his discomfort.
The hired black uncles were all experienced sailors, and the chief officer organized the ship’s work neatly, allowing the vessel to glide through the complex currents as gracefully as a dolphin.
In the captain’s cabin, Spencer and the Chief Officer located the offshore oil drilling platform on the nautical chart using coordinates provided by Rada Gan. It wasn’t too far from the coastline.
They had thought they could sail towards their destination without any disturbances, but at noon, an unfamiliar signal suddenly came from the radio in the wheelhouse.
"We are the Republic of Seychelles Coast Guard, can you hear us?" The other side said.
Wei Tianyang looked at Spencer.
But he said, "Don’t panic, I have already taken care of all the necessary entry procedures along the route."
Spencer walked up to the radio and replied, "We have permission to enter and have dealt with all the related paperwork."
"We don’t have any of your permission or any related electronic documents. Please tell us your ship’s number," came the icy response from the other side.
"Nantakayte, 75--28993, we are conducting a... marine scientific expedition project here," said Spencer.
Wei Tianyang couldn’t help but snicker internally. It was claimed to be a scientific expedition, but in reality, they were here for illegal salvage operations. However, laws are determined by men, after all, and Rada Gan had managed to hide such a large Heavenly Falling Object under the guise of an oil drilling platform, leading the way with gold bars.
The obstinacy from the Coast Guard was nothing more than a desire for a bribe.
"Your vessel type is a whaling ship," said the other side.
"Our scientific research vessel is modified from a whaling ship," Spencer replied.
"Nantakayte, we command you to shut down your engine immediately, drop anchor, and wait for our Coast Guard patrol vessel to board and inspect," they ordered.
"We have legal documents," insisted Spencer.
"Turn off the engine, or we will sink you," the other side stated coldly.
After that, the other side ended the conversation.
Spencer shook his head and remarked, "They apparently don’t know what it means to keep a promise."
"Based on my experience, large-caliber naval guns and deck bombers tend to be more persuasive than any document," Dave spread his hands.
Wei Tianyang asked, "What are they likely to do?"
"Actually, they can’t do much. They might send over a Coast Guard boat, with a few people coming aboard to inspect the cabins. We’re not carrying contraband on this ship, they won’t be able to catch us out. Moreover, we have an expensive unmanned submarine in tow, which is something used only for scientific expedition projects," explained Spencer.
"Will they force us to turn back or... keep our ship immobilized here?" Wei Tianyang asked again.
"It’s possible, but first, I need to figure out their intent, whether they want money or..." Spencer stopped mid-sentence, deep in thought.
"Aside from money, what else could it be?" Wei Tianyang looked at Spencer, puzzled.
"That drilling platform used to conceal a Heavenly Falling Object; word of it has probably leaked long ago. Maybe we just got unlucky and arrived right when someone decided to intercept us," Spencer said.
"That’s a possibility as well. Even if Rada Gan himself didn’t talk, it’s inevitable that workers previously stationed on the drilling platform might have let some information slip. It’s understandable if another pharmaceutical company got wind of this and decided to cut us off," Wei Tianyang mused.
"What do we do now, Captain?" the Chief Officer asked.
Spencer looked at Wei Tianyang.
"Keep going," Wei Tianyang said.
"That’s what I think too," Spencer said.
"They said they will sink us," the Chief Officer was a bit puzzled.
"The firepower of the Coast Guard vessels is limited... unless they send a frigate or submarine, but as far as I know, the Republic of Seychelles doesn’t have such equipment, and they wouldn’t bother doing that. We are people from the Sethiyan Federation, and there’s a member of the Superpower Special Department on board. They wouldn’t dare to pull the trigger," Dave said with a laugh.
Wei Tianyang said, "Focus on our salvage plan... We’ll deal with those people when they come. We have the ability to handle them."
"Yeah, they just want money. We can agree to that," Spencer nodded.
Just like that, they didn’t stop the ship but continued to sail towards their intended destination. After 2 hours, the orange offshore oil drilling platform finally faintly appeared on the horizon.
Wei Tianyang took the binoculars handed over by the Chief Officer and observed the drilling platform, only to see four large man-made structures resembling derricks connecting into a floating bridge on the sea. It was called a drilling platform, but he didn’t see any drills—instead, there were several tower cranes.
"It’s there. Looks like it’s been abandoned for quite some time," Wei Tianyang said.
"Do we need to go up there?" Dave asked.
"If that thing has already gone under the sea, climbing up there is pointless. And an offshore drilling platform that hasn’t been maintained for a long time is dangerous, isn’t it?" Spencer said.
Half an hour later, the Santak opened fire less than 200 meters from the nearest drilling platform. At this time, the Seychelles Coast Guard signal came through the radio once again.
"We’ve warned you," the voice on the other end seemed to say in a threatening tone.
"We have the legal right to navigate, and we also have a short-term permit for entry into territorial waters. You have no right to interfere with our navigation," Spencer became assertive.
"You don’t understand, sir, you still don’t understand," the reply from the other side started to get strange.
"Who are you? You’re not the Seychelles Coast Guard!" Spencer frowned.
The other side fell silent for a moment.
"Damn, looks like we’ve hit the jackpot..." Dave shook his head.
At that moment, a sinister voice came through the radio: "Someone has paid us to make sure you sleep with the fishes today, Mr. Spencer. That’s all you need to know."
The radio cut off completely; at the same time, all the compass signals and navigation computers on board ceased to function.
The crew was panicked, but Dave was exceptionally calm; he said, "It must be an electronic jamming device used on the ship unless they send an electronic warfare reconnaissance aircraft or a destroyer. Otherwise, this thing has a range of just 2 kilometers."
"Are there any guns on the ship?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"No... I didn’t expect something like this to happen," Spencer shook his head.
"Who do you think it could be from the other side? Think about who your past enemies might be who would pay to kill you?" Wei Tianyang asked again.
"There are too many who would want to kill me... What kind of business doesn’t offend people? I’ve caused a lot of people to go bankrupt and jump off buildings. I can’t think of who it could be right away," Spencer also felt somewhat helpless.
"Consider it a crowdfunding effort by them," Dave joked.
Wei Tianyang quickly walked onto the deck, gazing around the vast ocean. He could see nothing on the bleak sea horizon.
The urgent matter at hand was to first determine exactly how generous the opposition was and what kind of force they would bring to attack them.
