Chapter 198: Chapter 196: Secret Society
After several transfers, when Wei Tianyang stepped onto the soil of Yin Country again, it was already late at night, and a light rain was beginning to fall.
Wei Tianyang had just walked out of the terminal building at Fengrao International Airport when he saw his confidential secretary dressed in a black business suit, waiting next to a black sedan.
As she saw Wei Tianyang come out, she quickly stepped forward and opened an umbrella.
"No need," Wei Tianyang said.
He gestured with his hand, but the secretary still opened the umbrella to escort him to the car and helped him open the door.
A faint scent of peonies wafted from inside the car. Getting in, Wei Tianyang saw Zhao Ling sitting beside him, draped in a dark red cheongsam, her eyes shadowed in a charming red, her jet black hair coiled on her shoulder, clearly impatient as she waited for him.
"I thought you might just stay over there," Zhao Ling said.
The confidential secretary closed the car door and sat in another SUV ahead.
The cabin and driver’s seat of this sedan were separated by a piece of black glass, and the two of them could talk in the secluded space of the back seat without the driver hearing anything.
"Why are you dressed up like this?" Wei Tianyang asked.
He looked Zhao Ling up and down; her cheongsam was incredibly enticing, with a slit at the hem and a body-hugging shape that accentuated her muscular thighs and the slim, taut curves of her upper body perfectly. Her face, painted in charming red, along with Zhao Ling’s mature and gorgeous features, exuded a warmth like a sweet, potent Daughter’s Red wine at 45° Celsius.
"I’ll dress how I like," Zhao Ling said with a smile.
"Let’s go back to Jade Pavilion... I want to see Yaha as soon as possible," Wei Tianyang urged.
"Don’t rush, let’s go have some late-night food first~ You’ve probably been eating nothing but airline meals all day. I’ll take you for something nice," Zhao Ling said with a laugh.
"That’s really not necessary..." Wei Tianyang said.
"Yaha is already at the place where we’re eating. I’ve booked the whole venue, it’s no trouble," Zhao Ling cooed as if she was whining.
"Why go out to eat? Right below your Lingxiao Palace is Jade Pavilion..." Wei Tianyang said.
"Steijie invited you over for dinner, got you drunk, and you didn’t talk this much. When your old lady asks you out for a meal, why do you get impatient!" Zhao Ling said, huffing with indignation.
"Fine... since Yaha is there... wait, damn it! Are you using this watch to spy on me?!" Wei Tianyang exclaimed angrily.
"We agreed before that you would join the United Council, but you had to stay in Yin Country. You were gone for half a month; how could I not take some protective measures?" Zhao Ling saw that Wei Tianyang was angry, suddenly changed her tone, and there was a hint of grievance in her voice.
"I don’t like being watched... Besides, if I really wanted to leave, they couldn’t stop me. I’ve been living with you for three years, how come you still don’t trust me?" Wei Tianyang said helplessly.
Even though he didn’t consider Yin Country his homeland, he was not willing to stay in West Soil either.
"Alright, this is what you said, remember that," Zhao Ling’s voice once again became cold and ruthless, she sat up straight and pulled out a box of women’s cigarettes from her purse, flicking one out and putting it between her lips.
Wei Tianyang was embarrassed—this woman’s mood swings were as natural as breathing...
The two-vehicle convoy left the airport, the scenery dismal throughout the journey, avoiding the busiest parts of Fengrao City and instead mingling with the public traffic.
Wei Tianyang realized they were headed for the outskirts.
An hour and a half later, at 1 AM, the car turned off onto a mountain road that was well-paved, with neatly planted rows of trees. After a few turns ascending upwards, both cars stopped in front of a hidden villa nestled halfway up the mountain.
This meal was going to be quite an ordeal.
Wei Tianyang and Zhao Ling got out of the car, and she naturally linked arms with Wei Tianyang’s right arm, as if she were his mother or his wife.
Wei Tianyang was a little uncomfortable, but the confidential secretary brushed up to his other side and gave him a look, saying, "Please, Young Master, don’t panic."
"Young Master?" Wei Tianyang was startled.
But Zhao Ling pulled him straight into the estate.
Crossing the gates of the estate, the courtyard inside wasn’t large, only about the size of a tennis court. Single-story stone houses arranged in the shape of the Chinese character for "return" enclosed the space. Armed Inner Guards in plainclothes were on alert, while four members of the Superpower Special Department lurked in the shadows.
Wei Tianyang realized that this dinner meeting might not be so straightforward, unsure what Zhao Ling was up to.
Entering the house, a large Eight Immortals table was situated in the center of the main hall, directly across from a wall adorned with a shrine housing a statue of a bearded martial god.
A few individuals were already inside. Wei Tianyang glanced around and recognized someone—an acquaintance, actually, from the Three Armies Bureau: Venerable Xu.
Simultaneously, there were three middle-aged men in suits standing to the side, holding cups of hot tea while engaged in a quiet conversation.
Seeing Zhao Ling and Wei Tianyang among others enter, everyone’s gaze turned toward them.
"Mr. Zhao, have you arrived?" one of the men in suits greeted.
Zhao Ling nodded slightly and said, "Sit, everyone take a seat."
Venerable Xu also smiled without speaking.
Wei Tianyang and Zhao Ling took their seats first, while the confidential secretary sat on her other side. The others in the room took their places as well, all faces illuminated by smiles.
At that moment, Zhao Ling bore no resemblance to an emperor. Gone was the lofty and domineering air, as well as the aggressive glint in her eyes.
Instead, she seemed gentle.
"What is this?" Wei Tianyang asked.
"You’ll know soon enough," replied Zhao Ling softly.
Just then, Yaha was led out from an inner room by an Inner Guard, dressed in a dark red cheongsam with her long hair reaching her waist. She wore gloves, which made her bald arms seem less peculiar.
Yaha rushed to Wei Tianyang immediately, sitting to his left, wrapping her arms around his waist, and kept repeating, "Starbucks! Starbucks!"
"Yaha! What else do you remember? Do you remember Kacha? What about the fountain, tap dancing..." Wei Tianyang also expressed his surprise, continuing to talk.
However, when Yaha heard these names, she didn’t react, only continuing to repeat "Starbucks."
"Don’t worry, she will slowly remember, but tonight, there’s something more important to talk about," Zhao Ling said with a smile.
Wei Tianyang was puzzled as everyone took their seats and the Inner Guard closed the door from outside.
Venerable Xu sat directly opposite Wei Tianyang, previously always exuding a cold and stern demeanor, but today, he looked particularly benevolent.
"Let’s do introductions," Venerable Xu suggested with a smile. "Wei Tianyang might not know you all."
The three middle-aged men sitting on the left then introduced themselves with smiles.
"I’m the Director of the Bureau of Foreign Affairs, Chen Cao Yun."
"I’m the Chief of the Technology Department at the Bureau of Foreign Affairs, Lu Qingyun. Pleased to meet you, Wei Tianyang."
"I’m the Director of the Three Armies Bureau, Lu Yong."
The eldest of the three men was nearly sixty with graying hair, while the youngest was just over thirty. None of them performed the Yin Li in Zhao Ling’s presence, nor did she rebuke them for it.
"I’m the Emperor’s confidential secretary, Li Ruyun, or should I adopt a different title?" the confidential secretary, Li Ruyun, said at this point.
This was the first time Wei Tianyang had heard her name.
"What does this mean? What is this..." Wei Tianyang asked, confused.
"This is the greater significance you’ve been seeking. We’ve gathered here to discuss the future of our country," Zhao Ling said with a smile.
"The future? You mean..." Wei Tianyang started to understand.
"I’ve mentioned it before, haven’t I? I will eradicate the feudal system from this nation. It took me fifty years, and I thought it would take another fifty... but now, we have you. Perhaps, the day when all remnants of the royal lineage in this country are removed won’t take too long after all," Zhao Ling stated.
