I Am Extraordinary Alone -
Chapter 185 - 183: Retreat
Chapter 185: Chapter 183: Retreat
Even though they were reluctant, the Defense Army could only obey orders.
Wei Tianyang guessed that the man on the other end of the communicator must be Rada Gan, because as soon as he spoke, all the Defense Army turned toward the tall woman and cast fervent gazes at her.
The woman covered her left arm and stood up, her eyes filled with hatred as she looked at Wei Tianyang.
Wei Tianyang looked up and met her gaze; the massive shadow engulfed him, but the woman’s stooped figure made her seem so vulnerable.
Half-finished product.
Watching the woman walk toward the armored vehicle, Wei Tianyang couldn’t help but call out to her, saying, "You shouldn’t have let your child take Black Medicine either."
They shouldn’t be on the battlefield; they shouldn’t be affected by the politicians’ cruel games.
"It’s none of your business..." The woman’s eyes dimmed, like a wounded lioness, her large hand covering her child’s back, protecting her in her arms as she slowly walked away.
In order to meet Rada Gan, Wei Tianyang was arranged to board an armored personnel carrier and was also blindfolded.
He was as docile as a lamb, but no soldier wanted to share a vehicle with him.
Originally cramped, the personnel compartment became quite spacious; when the doors closed, it was pitch black inside. He thought about taking off the blindfold, but suddenly felt sleepy and simply lay down on the floor and fell asleep.
He had a dream where he saw his mother sitting beside him, flipping through a calendar counting days, muttering, "Yang, it must be tiring to work at Sushi Delivery, right? The Mid-Autumn Festival is coming soon; Mom has saved some money from washing clothes for others and will buy you mooncakes to eat."
"Don’t spend the money carelessly..." Wei Tianyang muttered, half-asleep, suddenly.
He woke up abruptly, staring at the pitch-black personnel compartment, the words he had just blurted out still echoing in his ears.
He took off the blindfold, wiped his face, his palms wet.
He thought he had moved on from his mother’s death, but the sadness always reminded him inadvertently.
"Damn." He muttered under his breath, pulling out his phone to check the time; he had only slept for half an hour.
The armored vehicle slowed down, and he could feel it; after another half-minute, the vehicle stopped, someone outside called out and opened the compartment door.
The light outside was somewhat dazzling. He got out and found himself within a military camp, in an area resembling a suburban factory, but the factory facilities had been transformed into a fortress, with green tents scattered all around.
The armored vehicles were all parked inside the factory buildings; the soldiers were all dressed in civilian clothes with bulletproof vests over them and wore dark green helmets, resembling guerrillas more than a regular army.
The robust woman had also come here with him, seemingly responsible for watching over him until he met Rada Gan.
Wei Tianyang glanced at the woman; her injuries had healed, her little son clinging to his mother’s legs, glaring at him fiercely.
"Have we arrived?" Wei Tianyang asked.
The woman gave him a stern look, speaking gravely, "You need to wear the blindfold!"
"What if I don’t wear it?" Wei Tianyang asked.
The woman ignored him, turning and walking toward a larger tent.
Wei Tianyang had no interest in wandering around here—it was just a third-world military camp, after all. He surveyed the entire camp; armored vehicles, tanks, and various types of artillery all came from outdated models from various countries, even the rifles in the soldiers’ hands were the same.
This wasn’t actually good...
Weapon specifications were not standardized, meaning that ammunition types were varied, difficult to manage, and resupply, and maintenance parts also had to be prepared separately, undoubtedly adding to the logistical costs.
But considering Rada Gan had money... perhaps, they did not consider maintenance—to buy new ones outright might also be possible.
If that were the case, Wei Tianyang was even more curious about who Rada Gan really was.
Money doesn’t materialize out of thin air; Lazaha is not a superpower, and mindlessly printing money wouldn’t find any buyers—it would only devalue the domestic currency, causing inflation and further loss of national assets when the domestic currency is exchanged for international currencies in trade.
What method had Rada Gan employed to keep this small country purchasing continuously and resisting the relentless bombardments from the Yixu Defense Army for two years?
He had waited for nearly half an hour when a gray heavy-duty disaster relief helicopter flew in from a distance. Wei Tianyang had seen such helicopters in Yin Country, and Zhao Ling had told him that these aircraft were generally used for disaster relief, possessing a strong carrying capacity and able to accommodate up to 10 people. They were imported from Sethiyan.
The one from Azaha was identical to those in Yin Country, but clearly, this aircraft’s mission in Azaha was not to save lives, but to serve as the harbinger of death.
The helicopter landed on the helipad, and the woman walked out from the military tent just in time. She waved at Wei Tianyang, signaling him to follow her onto the aircraft.
Wei Tianyang boarded the plane under the watchful eyes of countless soldiers and sat opposite the woman.
This woman was too tall, preventing her from sitting on a seat, thus she had to sit on the floor, extending her legs out dangling. This reminded Wei Tianyang of the time she had traveled to Feinan City sitting directly atop the tank.
The plane took off and the three of them remained silent.
Wei Tianyang saw her place her son in her lap, and the little child fell into a deep sleep. The woman’s long white hair draped on the floor as she removed crumbs from her child’s face with her pinkie.
Suddenly, Wei Tianyang asked, "What’s your name?"
The woman glanced back at him, hesitated for a moment, then lowered her head and stroked her child’s small head. "Shana," she said.
"Shana... my name is Wei Tianyang." Wei Tianyang reached out his left hand to her.
Shana looked at him and, like a dog, sniffed at his left hand but did not shake it.
Wei Tianyang smiled, withdrew his hand, and said, "I can understand you."
"No, you don’t understand," Shana replied.
"This war..." Wei Tianyang began.
Shana turned and looked at him, defiance in her expression. "You could never understand, you don’t know what we have faced."
"I am a war observer, I can help you," Wei Tianyang said.
"No one wants to help us! If not for Lord Rada Gan... Azaha would have ceased to exist," said Shana.
"Is Rada Gan an Azaha person?" asked Wei Tianyang.
Shana laughed aloud, a laugh devoid of any kindness, but mocking instead.
"No, you got it wrong, Lazaha belongs to Rada Gan," Shana stated.
"There are no gods in this world," Wei Tianyang said.
"He is!" Shana exclaimed angrily.
"Why are you so certain? Your superpower, and mine, are all granted by Black Medicine. What makes him any different?" Wei Tianyang questioned.
"Don’t you dare insult Lord Rada Gan!" Shana retorted angrily.
Her eyes were wide with anger, her complexion deathly pale, and her hair disheveled like an enraged dog. Even so, Wei Tianyang believed that before being injected with Black Medicine, Shana must have been quite a beautiful girl.
"You can’t beat me," Wei Tianyang stated calmly.
"Even so... I will fight you!" Shana declared.
"You will die. If I were merciful, you would die quickly; if I were cruel, you would die in great pain. I would make your son watch as you were cut to pieces, and before you die, you would hear your son crying and shouting your name, over and over again," Wei Tianyang said with a smile.
Retreat flickered in Shana’s eyes.
"Even so, do you still want to fight me?" Wei Tianyang asked again.
Shana lowered her head to look at the child in her arms, her face showing reluctance.
Wei Tianyang placed his right hand on her shoulder and said, "I can understand you. I have experienced what you are experiencing."
He continued, "This war will not stop if you are not in it, but without you, your son will lose his whole world. When it’s time to withdraw, even if it’s just for him, you should choose to escape. Understand?"
He could feel Shana’s robust frame trembling slightly; her clear, large eyes welled up with tears which spilled over as she lowered her head and uttered a single word, "Okay..."
