Chapter 170: Chapter 168 Check-out

Wei Tianyang returned to the hotel room’s bathroom, pausing the "objective reality" program. As he pushed the door open and stepped out, he saw two soldiers standing in the room, interrogating Du Ming.

"Oh? What’s going on?"

As soon as he appeared, both soldiers turned to look at him.

"Wei, they were just asking where you had run off to. I told them you were using the bathroom, but they didn’t believe me and wanted to break down the door. Luckily, I stopped them," Du Ming said.

"You were in the bathroom just now?!" one of the soldiers demanded, raising his voice.

Wei Tianyang put on his earpiece and said to Du Ming, "Tell them I fell asleep in there."

Du Ming relayed the message, and finding no grounds for further action, the soldiers prepared to leave. That’s when Robson burst through the door.

"Sir!" the soldiers snapped to attention.

"What were you doing in the bathroom just now?" Robson questioned Wei Tianyang as if he were interrogating a prisoner.

"I was... in the bathroom taking a dump. What else would I be doing? You think I’d eat in there?" Wei Tianyang said with a smirk.

Robson wasn’t wearing an earpiece and didn’t understand what Wei Tianyang had said, so he turned to look at Du Ming, who was grinning like an idiot.

"What did he just say?!" Robson asked.

"He said he was taking a crap, and then he asked if you’ve eaten," Du Ming replied.

Robson shook his head in bewilderment, "Uh... I haven’t eaten yet, was about to go do that."

Du Ming burst out laughing and Wei Tianyang also wore a smile, making Robson feel extremely uncomfortable. "I’m going to install a camera in the bathroom too!" he declared.

Hearing this, Du Ming objected, "I can barely tolerate being watched 360 degrees with no blind spots in the room! You’re going to take away our last bit of privacy too? What do you take us for?!"

"The country is in a state of emergency! I can’t allow any slip-ups! Right now, the two of you are the most suspicious foreigners in the entire city!" Robson countered.

"Forget it, let him install it," Wei Tianyang suddenly said.

Du Ming looked at him in surprise and asked in Xun language, "Are you serious?"

"We don’t need to stay here any longer," Wei Tianyang replied.

The nukes were likely not in Yixu, and though the President was dead, the fighting spirit of the people hadn’t diminished at all. He felt the need to get closer to the frontlines to see for himself.

"Ah... since you put it that way..." Du Ming said.

Robson, who had no idea what they were saying and whose earpiece was charging, was getting anxious. He ordered someone nearby, "Go install the camera in the bathroom now!"

After that, he stormed out with the soldiers.

Only the two of them remained in the room, but it still wasn’t safe to talk openly because the surveillance cameras and listening devices were monitoring them continuously.

Nevertheless, Wei Tianyang didn’t care too much about that.

He gave straightforward instructions, "Pack your luggage, dispose of anything inconvenient. Just bring the essentials with you."

Du Ming, slightly confused, instinctively began to pack. He didn’t have many clothes to change into, so he kept only two pairs of underwear, then stuffed a water bottle, compressed biscuits, a power bank, and a charger into his backpack, among other small items.

As he packed, he asked quietly and indirectly, "What’s your plan?"

Wei Tianyang glanced up at the surveillance camera and said, "You’ll know what I’m doing once I do it."

With that, he removed his shoes and lay down on the bed, curling up inside the blanket.

Du Ming turned around to see Wei Tianyang cocooned in the blanket, seemingly fast asleep, and grew angry. "Damn it! I thought you were planning something," he blurted out.

He went over and nudged Wei Tianyang, who muffled from within the blanket, "Once you’re packed, go to sleep too. Get some good rest, I’ll wake you when it’s time."

Seeing Wei Tianyang was determined to sleep, Du Ming had no choice but to throw his backpack at the foot of the bed, plop down on top of it, and boredly started smoking.

Around 10 p.m., two soldiers came to install a camera in the bathroom; after bustling about for half an hour, Du Ming also crawled under the covers and went to sleep.

In the middle of the night, Wei Tianyang woke up. Wrapped in his blanket, he directly transitioned into objective reality.

He first went to the bathroom, picked up the dinner knife and gloves he had left there in objective reality, and then pushed the door open and walked into the hallway.

There was only one soldier’s black Shadow, dozing off on a chair by the door.

Wei Tianyang switched out of objective reality and quickly plunged the dinner knife into the soldier’s neck. Then he yanked horizontally, slashing open his throat.

Startled from his sleep, the soldier reached for his neck as he slumped over but was gently laid on the ground by Wei Tianyang, who grabbed his bulletproof vest by its magazine pouches.

He didn’t touch the soldier’s gun. Even when committing a murder, he needed to be meticulous, avoiding any trouble for the United Council.

Wei Tianyang moved down the dark, narrow corridor, switching between the two realities, and entered other rooms on the third floor. The surveillance room was just next to one of the rooms where six laptops were set up; two plainclothes agents were sitting in front of the computers drinking coffee, one was sleeping, and another was smoking on the balcony.

Wei Tianyang left objective reality and, with lightning speed, pierced the throats of the two agents.

He aimed for the softest parts of their necks, mimicking the killing methods of ordinary people. Both agents clutched at their throats and fell to the ground, making quite a commotion, which startled the one on the balcony but not the sleeping one.

Wei Tianyang teleported to the balcony, covered the agent’s mouth, and with a reverse grip, slashed his knife across the neck, being careful not to sever the head completely.

The agent frantically reached for his gun but collapsed, his body going limp on the floor. Wei Tianyang pinned his forearm down with his thigh, making it impossible for him to move. All he could do was look into Wei Tianyang’s eyes and wait to suffocate to death.

Wei Tianyang didn’t pick up the gun, knowing it was surely secured with a pheromone lock. He stood up, approached the bed, and drove the knife through the right eye of the sleeping agent, smashing his brain.

Then he left the room, made his way to another, which housed five soldiers, and five ICRs leaned against the wall. Three were sleeping; one remained awake, watching from a table, and another was checking the weapons.

Wei Tianyang killed them all, blood flowing into rivers, soaking the bedsheets.

He went down to the second floor, where there were soldiers in four rooms, twelve in total; he killed all four who were awake.

Just as he reached the lobby on the first floor, he ran into Robson carrying coffee back from his route, on the phone with a serious expression, repeatedly saying, "Yes, yes, okay, yes sir."

Looking upstairs, Robson saw Wei Tianyang holding a bloody knife, coming down, and dropped his cup to the floor in fright.

Wei Tianyang raised his hand and slashed, driving the knife into Robson’s right eye. Then, with a fierce thrust, he destroyed his brain.

Robson collapsed to the floor instantly, his phone bouncing off the ground six times before hitting the wall and stopping, its screen shattered in one corner, brown coffee mixed with blood spreading across the floor.

Wei Tianyang picked up the phone, heard the ongoing questions from the other side.

He didn’t bother with it; he threw the phone into a trash can by the passageway, then returned inside to collect the hand grenades strapped to the soldiers and walked back to his room.

"Wake up. It’s time to go," Wei Tianyang nudged Du Ming.

Du Ming turned over in a haze, immediately smelling blood, and sat up abruptly.

"Don’t panic, they’re all dead," Wei Tianyang said.

Du Ming, seeing the sticky blood on the knife in his hand and the pile of hand grenades on the bed, understood.

"Wei... this... it doesn’t comply with the regulations..." Du Ming worried, unaware of how Wei Tianyang had managed it, but the evidence was right before his eyes.

"There are many things that don’t comply with the regulations; this one won’t make a difference," Wei Tianyang said.

Du Ming didn’t say more and quickly got dressed, shouldered his backpack, and peeked quietly through the doorway.

"They’re all dead. We need to destroy the bodies and cover our tracks, let Azaha take the blame for now," Wei Tianyang stated.

He spoke while searching the room for a cardboard box, throwing hand grenades into it, and carrying it outside.

The two of them pulled the pins from the grenades one by one and tossed them into the rooms.

The explosions were incessant; bodies and computers were shattered to pieces.

As they made it to the ground floor, the Public Security Bureau’s cars had just arrived at the motel entrance; they had just braked.

The President was dead by day, and by night a motel bombed, the security forces and military of Lazarus were on high alert, leaving virtually no window for escape.

Du Ming became anxious, but Wei Tianyang did not. Having just thrown the last hand grenade, he discarded the cardboard box and, putting a hand on Du Ming’s shoulder, pulled him into objective reality together.

They vanished in an instant; a second later, the motel doors were kicked open by riot control officers, and a specialized combat unit outfitted with riot gear and exoskeletons charged upstairs.
